Alexander is nothing like Elam, that's just ridiculous. You can't say two players are the same because they have similar height, weight, and speed. Their skill sets are entirely different and play completely different positions. they aren't the same size at all and Mackensie is fantastic in coverage - and isn't known as a hard hitter at all. You pulled that comparison out of left field...It's quite easy to compare Noah Spence who's 6'2" 250 to any bust ILB, many ILBs have that same size and comparable speed, must mean they're the same! - see how ridiculous that is?

You are correct in your analysis of my comment. Actually, if we adhered to what I posted then we wouldn't need to draft anyone, However, many " experts" are not sure as to what he brings to the table. A " highly competitive" player-- how exactly does one make it to the NFL without that quality? Alexander's is 5' 10" thought to lack size but appears to have good coverage skills. My point ( poorly made) was that each year we drink the purple cool-aid because it's that time of year. Oh, here is a typical reaction when the Ravens drafted Elem.  "I'm not quite sure what their referencing to when they say, "he lacks urgency to his game". I watched every Florida game last year and this guy is a stud. Granted I didn't watch the "tape" on just him alone, but he is and will be big time. I know people may scorn me for this, but I think he has Ed Reed potential and intangibles. Whoever drafts him will be quite pleased with their pick."--

What does purple kool-aid have to do with Alexander at the moment? He's currently not on our team.

So who is gonna pick Jack?

I dunno, Patsies?  I think he's easily worth the risk in the 3rd, so he'll probably go in the 2nd.  A year or 2 as a stopgap ILB that good at that salary is probably better than anyone else in the 3rd.  It's a gamble either way.  What if we pick Jack in the 3rd and Smith in the 4th?  Jack can play while Smith heals and takes over in 2 years.  Of course, that is taking on a lot of risk.

People hype up every pick regardless of who it is. If we take Spence people will compare him to any number of fantastic pass rushers - people around here have already kicked around a certain pass rusher from Denver - I never compared Alexander to anyone or said he'd be as good as insert-player-here, the fact that some people like one player isn't a knock on him, this Elam comparison is just a bad one. The "purple cool-aid" applies to all players, it's not fair to only apply it to the players that you don't personally like but you buy into it when it's a prospect that you do like. I'm not a big fan of Spence but I wouldn't say people are just buying empty hype, people watch what they watch and make a judgement. Have you ever seen any interview of his? competitiveness comes on a spectrum and isn't "either you have it or you don't" and Alexander has confidence in spades and his work ethic and studiousness show big time. He an extremely smart player and is always prepared. 5'10" is more than tall enough to be successful at CB, people get way too caught up in physical height when it's nowhere near as important as how you use it. The tired analogy is Steve Smith, he's short but he plays so much taller - as does Alexander, who is smart enough and athletic enough to make up for his lack of height. And let's not even start with the "some 'experts'" talk, I can literally find you an "expert" that'll assert any number of opinion on any given player.

After thinking on this some, Spence reminds me of Sergio Kindle. I know he didn't end well for us, but that is who he reminds me of as a prospect. Very similar players coming out of college.

There you go again-- making a good point. My comment was not directed at the selection of Alexander but the hype surrounding the selection of these players and the fact that no one really knows how they will turn out. Mike Preston on Ed Reed "Ed Reed will probably become a good player because the Ravens have a pretty impressive draft record. The selection of Ed Reed allows them to move Gary Baxter, a second-year player drafted in the second round, from safety to starting cornerback even though Baxter is slow coming out of his backpedal."

But not Cowboy

We would've had him had they accepted the trade up.

Watch DAL take Noah Spence and break our hearts.

I have the same feeling. It just looks like a real possibility since they have a huge need for edge rush.

No but they Cowboys were too afraid to trade down

Nah. I think Jerry just trolled us. I don't think he intended on trading back. We'll have to pay him back November 20th.
