2016 Draft Rounds 2 & 3 "Game Thread"

Cleveland has so many needs, they could go DL, Edge, LB, CB, S, OL, or QB and it would make sense. Honestly, they could take Chris Jones, Jarran Reed, Robinson, Hunter Henry, Jack, Vonn Bell, Cody Whitehair, Jason Spriggs, or Connor Cook or Hackenberg just as much as they could take Dodd, Spence, Alexander, or Fuller.

I find the Browns "moneyball" strategy absolutely hilarious. Jason La Canfora hit the nail right on the head, they're sitting at #2, they could take any blue chip talent they want in the entire draft, they trade back twice, come away with Corey Coleman and a boatload of mid round picks which they haven't been able to hit on for the past decade. Cheers Cleveland.

I agree; however, this is a new regime and anything can change. It sounds like Jackson is more involved in the drafting process, so we will see how much that works out for the Browns.

I think they'll go Spriggs, Thomas won't be around much longer, they need someone to develop and they lost their RT in FA

That being said, what do you think of them taking Coleman, clearly they needed a WR.

Different regime, different talent evaluators.

Plus, you ignored the elephant in the room... they have two first rounders in 2017 (could easily both be top 15 picks) and two second rounders in 2017 (and two in 2018).

They could easily have four top 50 picks in the 2017 draft, and the 2016 draft is generally a weaker one.

Still have to hit on those picks, but you don't rebuild a team by making one selection.

I posted this in the other Forum, but do the math on the "lets trade back into the second round" scenario. We simply don't have the picks. Its incredibly unlikely to happen. If we did, it would cost future years draft picks for certain.

I think Spriggs and Jack make a ton of sense for the Browns, but remember that they have picks coming up and so they have three 3rd and 4th round picks. Yeah, that's a lot. They could do all types of stuff with those picks.

Coleman could be a great player and may be the best WR in this class. I only wonder about his hands and going up the middle of the field, but he's got crazy upside.

I dont think its needed though.  With Dodd, Spence, Jack, Alexander still available there is plenty of first round talent left, and those are just guys i want.

3rd plus the early 4th could get us in a very decent spot if we wanted.  Not saying it's likely to happen, but we absolutely do have the ability to do it.

I think those picks would be lucky to move us up ten spots. 70-60. Not to mention, a lot of the picks around the area we would look to move are owned by our friends in Boston and Pittsburgh.

Right. It is absolutely possible we could use the 3rd and one of our two 4ths to move back into the 2nd round. That would easily get us decent position. We could at least jump the Cowboys and those guys ahead of us.

Hope Ravens address their woeful pass defense with these next 2 picks. Some combination of edge rusher, CB, and coverage LB have to be taken. Can't imagine they go offense with any of these picks.

I'm on the Derrick Henry bandwagon right now. Our O-Line just received a big upgrade and putting this beast behind it would be awesome.

Yeah. We absolutely need a CB. No denying that at all. Anyone should be able to see we need a CB. One guy I like that we can get if we don't get one today is Kalan Reed. Not sure where he goes, but that guy is the truth. I didn't watch him until recently, but I liked what I saw from him a lot and he would be that perfect small school guy we seem to covet every year.

For sure.  If you want to add some ball skills to our secondary, he's our guy.

Stanley pick is looking even better with all these defensive talents on the board.

Personally I want a CB so either Alexander or Fuller. I think fuller is a bigger playmaker than Alexander.

Why Alexander?

Supreme competitor and successfully shut down Will Fuller and Sterling Shepard in college - as well as every other receiver he went toe to toe with. He doesn't have big numbers because QBs knew better than to try throwing it to his side of the field. His potential is through the roof.

Yeah definitely not saying it's going to happen, but that would get us to the 56-58 range according to the trade value chart.  Of course, I know that thing is crap, but it illustrates the point that we could move back in if we wanted.

Tony Pauline saying he's hearing the Cowboys want Ogbah, and the Chiefs want Mack Alexander.

I could see Cowboys going Jack.  Hard not to love Ogbah with that athleticism and what he could do

I'm starting to like the idea of Henry on the ravens. Dude's a beast and ran a fast 40 don't understand all the hate. It's not like we'll be asking him to be a cowbell back

Our D needs serious help though.

I think its just because we have a lot of RBs on the roster with some good potential.  Im not a fan of Allen, but i think he will be just fine.  We have too many holes imo to go RB in the second.

The reason I like someone like Dodd who steadily improves and then explodes is because it shows he still has a lot of room to continue to grow and get better. Not to mention, he showed a lot of discipline and understanding of the position.

Conversely, you could say Lawson played on the same line as Grady Jerrett and Vic Beasley, then DJ Reader and Kevin Dodd. I mean, who really helped who? It was a bit of everyone doing their part, to me.

Dodd is 24 yo. He doesn't have much time left to learn and improve. If we can't get Spence, I'd rather pick up Fuller or Cravens in 2nd and Correa or Tyrone Holmes in 3rd.
