Pointless speculation on the ravens trade offer

27 posts in this topic

Ravens reportedly tried to trade up to Dallas and had it all but secured until Jerry backed out last minute... First of all, id like to know just how much truth there is to this rumor, and if it is true then apparently it's because Jerry thought we were after zeke, could anyone provide any validity to this whatsoever from the ravens? I heard a Jerry Jones press conference on the radio where he stated some of this.

Teams are up-front about who they're trading up for, at least that's my understanding, so to say Jerry suspected us of wanting Elliott seems unlikely. Perhaps he thought the Jags would take Elliott or trade the pick to someone who does (since we would have taken their Ramsey).

I don't see why a: the ravens would trade up for zeke since the jags were absolutely no threat to take him and b: how we could possibly have had him rated higher than Ramsey.

Jerry said it though, in plain english, the ravens wanted zeke and he almost made the trade but didnt, it just doesn't compute on any level..

the fact that you are paying attention to what jerry jones is saying says enough.

im sorry but i cant find a single reason to jump for joy about anything this man says regarding football.

not to mention i dont see how something you yourself deemed pointless deserve a thread.

could easily have been posted in the draft rumor thread.....

It's this simple, Elliott was Dallas's guy, they had their heart set on him. If they traded with us somebody could've jumped them by trading with the Jags and they didn't want to risk losing him. I'm sure we offered a TON to try to get them to pull the trigger, at the end of the day Zeke meant too much to them to risk it and that's that.

Who's jumping for joy? I heard his press conference on the radio while I was at work and had questions about it. I called it pointless because obviously nothing can be done at this point, but I posted in case anyone had found any articles or reports from the ravens that said we actually wanted to trade up for zeke, because I found it hard to believe.

This is what I have to come to grips with.

This trade has bothered me on so many levels since I first heard about it. I feel if it happened, BOTH teams would've got what they wanted. But I guess there was a small chance the Cowboys could've lost out on Zeke during that next pick. And if you truly love Zeke why play with fire when he's starring at you right in the face.

Now the cowboys are saying that we wanted Zeke at 4 and that's why he didn't do it....stop. I don't believe that for second.

However I must say..I've never had an issue with the Cowboys really...but this is the 2nd time that their moves have screwed us over...first Dez now with Ramsey. I'm starting to have some disdain for the organization.

All reporters with Ravens sources are still stating this morning that Ramsey was the target and it wasn't going to be a trade up for Elliot. Jerry was just talking out of his wallet pocket.

What we probably won't ever know is what our offer was (or what Dallas wanted). My guess is that it was for a third rounder, which maybe we didn't want to give up. I certainly think our offer would have been at least our early 4th.

Probably never know... all moot now. Hopefully we will be better off.

They probably would've accepted a 3rd instead but that's just what I would've done.

Hate the way Cowboys always mess up our draft plans.

Read some place it was our 4th.

Which would make sense, given that it appears it was the Cowboys who backed out of the deal.

Of course we also don't know which 4th... we have four of them. Two of them can't be traded, so it was either #104 (likely) or #130.

I actually don't blame Dallas for turning the deal down though.

Well Jerry Jones just oddly admitted trying hard to trade up for Paxton Lynch. If he would've took our 4th, it could've helped them out bigly with that.

I read Connor Cook from somewhere, but I guess Lynch makes more sense.

I heard Lynch but then Denver traded up. Cowboys could've got both Lynch and Elliot if they took a 4th from us so we could get Ramsey. Bad call for them. I am still happy with the Stanley pick he will make it so we didn't waste a 1st round last year in Perriman and waste 6 million a year on Wallace because now they will have time to get open.

According to the charts to trade up from 6th pick to 4th pick we would have to throw in the 78th pick.  Our 70th pick would have excess value so they would need to throw in their early 5th round pick to make the deal happen.

I think it was said by the league.  I don't think this is a rumor.  I mentioned it before, but mostly because I'm trying to figure if we actually wanted Zeke or Ramsey.  They tried to trade, just curious who it was actually for.

Dallas didn't wanna risk Jax trading down. Surprised they were that high on Elliot while planning to trade up for QB in late 1st.

*Still despise this new layout and all its glitches that haven't been fixed like previous quotes showing up and not being able to turn off italics on mobile.

Several reporters this morning, all citing "reliable" Ravens sources, all reported Ramsey was the target. Jerry Jones appears to be the only one reporting we wanted Elliot.

I'd have to think the "risk" from Dallas was more than somebody would trade with Jacksonville. I can't believe they really thought we were coming up to get Elliott. If that were the case, why would we trade with them? Why wouldn't we trade with SD?

Yeah that was the whole key, despite what insane Jerry might say.  If we moved up, that would have left Jacksonville in a prime position to get a trade offer for a team wanting Elliott.  Dallas wouldn't have gotten either of their guys in that case.  No brainer for them to avoid the risk.

we weren't going for Zeke.

this is Jerry Jones trying to save face because he knows he blew a great opportunity to get an extra pick AND still get the player he wanted.

Jerry stole Dez Bryant from us and now he just paid it back by rejecting our offers; I want Stanley to stabilize Joe's blindside for decades, not for defense cuz i know we will find better choices in 2nd and 3rd picks.....

It is still hilarious to think Jerry thought we traded up to get a RB? when the news all around the sport indicating our most need are OT and DE......
