I have a hard time to call a guy who has not played 1 snap in the  NFL better then a guy who did.

Im not pessimistic. im realistic.

Im compairing oher when he was drafted to stanley when he got drafted and i dont see a light year of difference.

Oher when he came out of college whas a very accomplished player who had the same high expectations as well before playing a single snap.
He actually managed to be a a starter as a RT and a LT as rookie which is pretty impressive and he finished 2nd in the associate press NFL rookie of the year award.

You claiming Stanley is light years better then him coming out means you expect him to a starter and what Pro bowler in his very first season?

Players are considered an upgrade when they actually take the field and prove it.
He sure as hell has the potential but i aint going to crown him unless he actually proof it.

At the same time last season people where saying the same about perriman being an upgrade over torrey and we all saw how that went.

So again dont be going back on your and say what is there to be expected.

Oher managed to be a starter and finished 2nd as offensive rookie of the year.

Since he is lightyears better we can expect stanley to be a pro bowler or all pro or what?

Oher was never considered a top 10 pick and ended up falling to the 20s, Stanley has always been the "1b" tackle and was rarely expected to fall out of the top 10, and was even frequently mentioned as the first non-qb off the board, oher never had that hype. Oher started at both tackles as a rookie which is impressive but he also did very bad at LT and was just average and inconsistent at RT and be real, he finished 2nd for APROY because of the blind side hype, not because of his play. Offensive linemen never even sniff that award but you think michael oher of all linemen is the one who legitimately earned that? C'mon man. If oher finished second then Sandra bullock must have finished first.

At first I was bummed because I wanted the next great Ravens defender at 6. Seeing how both Bosa and Ramsey were gone and Jack's knee is apparently a bigger concern than I thought, it was left between a trade back, Stanley and Tunsil. Apparently nobody called and Tunsil scares me too much. I am just afraid of what he will do with all the free time in the offseason and money that these young guys all of a sudden obtain. Leaving us with Stanley. The more I think about the pick however , the more I like it. This protects the Franchise QB, helps the run game, and solidifies one of the most important spots on the field for hopefully a decade. I think in 2-3 years we will look back on this pick and thank the Lord that we got a pro bowl LT! Just get a stud defender in the 2nd! Spence would look great in purple and black...

You keep comparing what stanley did in college to what oher did in NFL.

its a ridiculous skewed way to justify he is an upgrade.

When i compare what both did in college i dont see this light years difference in ability.

But since you insist its that way then please do tell what we can expect from stanley.

Pro bowl, All-Pro, Offensive Rookie of the year?

Come on dont be shy and say what the expectation will be.
You can argue he is light years better but you are afraid to actually set the expectations in stone.

We know what Oher did in his rookie season so it should not be hard for you to say what we can expect for stanley.

I'm just glad Tunsil went to Miami so he can disappear there like everyone else. He'll retire in a dozen years, and we won't even realize he had a good career until then when someone tells us. It'll be like, "Oh yeah, good for him."

Not a huge fan of the Stanley pick because it doesn't help fix our problem of lack of play makers. However, a fair amount of play makers on the board when we will pick at 35 tonight. I feel like you were super high on Kevin Dodd this past week, even suggesting you wouldn't be mad if we took him at 6. Think he will be there for us tonight at 35 and do we take him to help fix the pass rush? Pretty surprised he fell out of the top 20 let alone the whole first round. I want him or Jack at this point.

There was never anyone else other than Ronnie Stanley that we were going to draft at #6.  At least, not as long as he was still available.  Our biggest need has been LT.  And in case some of you didn't know, we have a highly paid, allegedly elite QB who was sent to IR last year with a serious knee injury.  If you don't have a line, you don't have anything.

There was also never any chance that we would draft Tunsil.  It has nothing to do with that stupid twitter picture.  It had everything to do with Tunsil's injury problems and domestic violence history.  Tunsil was an impossible pick for Ray Rice's former team to replace Eugene Monroe.

I would agree with this 100%.  I had picked Bosa as our first pick if he was there.  But when he was taken by SD, and then Ramsey went to Jacksonville, I knew it was going to be Stanley.  The Ravens wouldn't touch ANYONE with any kind of domestic violence history, regardless of circumstance.

I'd like the pick more if he at least sounded interested in being a Raven or even playing football.

He was a little lackadaisical wasn't he.  Maybe he has more of a personality like Joe?  My youngest is like that.  You never know when she is excited about things.

Stanley has issues at run blocking so I wouldn't make a comment saying it helps the run game at this point in time. It isn't that I am against the pick tbh however, once Ramsey & Bosa were gone we could have traded back. Two or three other teams traded back after us so it isn't like the interest was not there. I am aware of the board and all that but not sure Stanely is worth our 1st Top 10 pick in over a decade.

Not according to the analysts last night.  Mayock was talking about how good his run blocking is.  Some analysts think he's softer there than Tunsil, but there are also that believe he's better in many ways.

I have concerns about Stanley's strength and physicality but he's about as good a prospect as you can find at LT. His pass protection is so damn good, you learn to be okay with his average run blocking. I wish he was nastier but I've got high expectations.

Strength can be fixed, but I don't know if Tunsil will ever have the smooth footwork of Stanley. Not to mention Stanley isn't a thug.

They say that once he's on a block, he doesn't get off of it.  And has NBA footwork.  I personally like the pick.  and like "BreshadTheGod" don't like the off-the-field stuff.  Stanley is clean.

The reason we picked Stanley is because the board stacked up for the Ravens exactly as it did a couple of months ago. Stanley was in the top 6 on our board for sure all along. But, 2 of the top 5 players on our board suddenly over the past couple of weeks had issues one couldn't overlook. Myles with a serious injury issue and Tunsil with the serious face mask issue!  So we were back to where we started actually. With the 2 QBs canceling out Myles and Tunsil, we were back where we started before the QB trades even happened. Just imagine our situation had the QB trades not happened? We would have either picked VH3 or Floyd with our #1 pick because if we couldn't find a trade partner now, we surely couldn't find it in that scenario right? So in my book, all is well that ends well. Now let us get behind our first pick Stanley and welcome him to Baltimore with deserved excitement and hope! He may indeed turn out to be the best pick in this year's draft in a few years. He has that potential.

I had to down vote this.  I know the police report says "domestic violence".  but protecting your mom is not the same as knocking out your fiancee and dragging her across a casino floor.  If anything, Tunsil's case should have been a point in his favor.

This isn't instant coffee! Everyone on this board advocates playing it safe. Try an be optimistic all you want, he wasn't best pick available, not even best pick at the position! We should have rolled the dice on Jack or Shaq Lawson. How is anybody happy right now with this pick??

I don't think this is a safe pick at all.  Look at muscle definition of his arms and then compare them to Tunsil. It is a question to me whether he is strong enough to handle NFL players.  And people say he isn't good at run blocking.  Why take a guy at #6 who isn't a great player.  Seems like Ozzie just picked the best left tackle not named Tunsil and to hell with the Best Player Available.

He needs to hit the weight room immediately.  This is the AFC north.  24 reps is not getting it done.

I'm not sure if i'm more disappointed that Jalen didn't fall to us or that we are in this position because we couldn't sign our own O- lineman.

KELECHI WALKING  forced this move.  In case anyone was wondering.  :bag:

24 reps with arms as long as his are is pretty awesome actually.

Work = Force X Distance.

I was one of the of the people on here who didn't want Stanley under any circumstance, but I guess it's time to put on my purple tinted glasses and get behind this 100%. Honestly the way the board fell and with everything that happened the night of the draft there was no other pick to be made, and I believe that he was the highest rated player on the board in this situation. He has really smooth footwork and is excellent in pass protection, he doesn't finish blocks and I question his strength but the potential is there. Was it the ideal pick, no, but they way the draft played out there were no other options. For those of you saying we could've traded back, no one was calling us for a trade.

Welcome aboard Stanley!  :229031_cheer:

This is a great write up on the two by someone who faced Odgen in college and it gives a great perspective via looks from draft breakdown:

While I was already on board with Stanley, with this read I'm pumped!

" Stanley was an excellent pass blocker in college, and was improving as a run blocker. "  http://www.csnmidatlantic.com/baltimore-ravens/ravens-get-offensive-select-notre-dame-tackle-ronnie-stanley

Plus they did an entire thing on his run blocking not being as good. Not sure whether I had ESPN or NFLN on at that point in time as I was channel hopping since NFLN was not giving you the board for remaining prospects very often.

Again, not saying it's a horrible pick or anything. Just think there was missed opportunity there when two or three teams traded back after our pick.

It's been stated that the Ravens received no calls when they were on the clock.  Teams that we had spoken to before the draft wanted to move up for Elliott, but with him gone at 4, there was no deal to be made.

His pass pro does seem to be excellent. Later when another team picked a pass rusher they showed Stanley shutting him down. I don't hate the pick at all - perhaps it was Stanley's own ho hum attitude that turned me off or just high expectations for our first top 10 pick in a decade.

I just don't see who the "play makers" were that were available for us to pick at #6? The three guys that I'd classify as clear "play makers" in this draft were selected before us.

I never viewed Buckner as that "play maker" type guy. The only guy I thought had a shot to be that was Leonard Floyd, and Stanley is a safer pick than him in my opinion.

I think Juan can do him wonders as will an NFL weight room. Stanley seemed very soft spoken though. That might cause a few problems

The strength is the only concern for me, honestly, and I think that's something you can fix with an NFL weight room. I've only ever questioned his core strength.

I don't understand where people get the idea that this is a reach. Going into the 2015 season, Stanley was widely considered the best prospect in the entire draft and a very safe bet to go number one overall. He was going to be a top 10 pick if he came out last year, but he decides to go back and improve because he realized he needed to get better.

So, did he get better? Absolutely. He improved in run blocking and became a cleaner prospect overall. So what happens from there now that he's improved? He falls out of favor and is viewed as a reach at 6?

So, let me get this straight- the consensus best prospect in the draft prior to 2015 goes back to college and gets better, but is a reach in the top 10...? What...?

Literally the only thing I questioned is his adequate core and leg strength, but if that's your only complaint, something that can easily be fixed, then the Ravens are doing pretty damn well.

Double standard right there. Urschel and Jensen (and our 4th round pick) are unproven as guards so Whitehair is logical 2nd round pick but LT, West, Buck Allen and Richardson are proven studs and make it for the full house of running backs?

No, but Allen, Richardson, LT, West, and Forsett is a crowded house thus not having the need. And I'd honestly take West and Buck at RB over him. If we were going to take a RB I think it would have been Zeke
