Watch the tape. Stanley did a good job. Lawson's spin move is a good attribute. But he did a good job that game.

Love this pick.

Yeah I wouldn't say Stanley did a good job that game. That game turned me off Stanley more than anything else. Didn't show his usual control

This isn't instant coffee! Everyone on this board advocates playing it safe. Try an be optimistic all you want, he wasn't best pick available, not even best pick at the position! We should have rolled the dice on Jack or Shaq Lawson. How is anybody happy right now with this pick??

Myles Jack at #6?

I understand the pick. We needed a tackle and Bosa, Ramsey, and the Tunsil situation going on, we went with the best decision.

Buckner wasn't a necessity and Jack is getting passed on by a lot of teams, which shows his knee concerns must be valid.

Gee, I dunno...a stud left tackle for the next decade...can't imagine why anyone would crack a smile over that.

it honestly wouldn't surprise me if that story originated from (say) someone in the Giants' FO.

Or Tunsil's step father  :/

I honestly think that a year or two in an NFL weights program (and maybe a year at LG so he can get a broader look at our playbook and improve his run blocking) will make a huge difference. I know people are miserable about the pick, but I don't care. He's a great OT and his footwork is off the freaking charts. Like you say, the difference between him and Tunsil isn't all that much, and Stanley's got a cleaner injury record and didn't have that bong video pop up.

This... well said..

So, if you soured on Stanley because of the Clemson game, I question what you were watching. I don't think I saw more than five missed/poor blocks and this is for someone who probably played about 50-80 snaps (I obviously didn't count).

He understood combo blocks, had great awareness to pick up blitzes, switched effortlessly between blocks, moved well in space, and held up well to anchor against Lawson, one of the strongest defensive lineman in the NFL.

Not to mention that was all in the wet weather, where it's harder for an OL to keep their footing and mirror the rusher (same thing with the DBs in coverage). Honestly I think it just proves how OL prospects get rated through an inverse system by the plays they allow to happen (losing points for each mistake as opposed to gaining them for each good play), which is the wrong way to go about it imo.

If you only have five bad plays against the number one team in the nation, you're doing something right.

He needs to hit the weight room immediately.  This is the AFC north.  24 reps is not getting it done.

I'm not sure if i'm more disappointed that Jalen didn't fall to us or that we are in this position because we couldn't sign our own O- lineman.

KELECHI WALKING  forced this move.  In case anyone was wondering.  :bag:

This is the best news  and the best way to look at this pick I have heard all night. Thank you.  I almost forgot how much i hate to see Hurst play the game.

So what will be the game plan with Stanley? Are we cutting Monroe ASAP and Stanley will take over? Will Stanley play a year at LG then transition to LT after some experience under his belt? Will he just spend the year riding the pine?

I was weary of Stanley's character because I thought the rumors of his lack of commitment were true, but the way he speaks about this situation is reassuring to me.

If he is committed and plays to potential, then this is better than instant coffee. This is that slow brewed good coffee that gives your whole day a boost. Instant coffee just upsets your stomach and makes you feel sorrow and regret.

Keep Monroe and see what happens. If a team's LT goes down in TC or early in the season we could always trade Monroe then, but there's no need to get rid of what could be great depth on the OL. We know the importance of OL depth a la 2013 and even 2015. I'd put Stanley at LG and then have an OL of Monroe | Stanley | Zuttah | Yanda | Wagner with Jensen and Urschel as reserves with another draft pick added in there as a late round addition.

The Ravens could trade Monroe to get back into the 2nd round from their 3rd round pick. Otherwise, keep him at LT, and have Stanley play guard.

I'm not even sure Stanley should play guard. I think Jensen is going to light it up there personally. I think Monroe ends up on the sideline in a very short time period and Stanley steps in ready to prove himself.

I was going crazy because we we're so close to having Ramsey drop to us, but I'm decently happy with the pick we made with Ronnie Stanley. I'm glad Bosa went at #3 because I don't like him, but I would've been happier if we traded down or maybe got Buckner. Overall, I'm not mad at what we did so that's good.

Good, solid pick for us. It's hard to argue against taking a OT in the top 10, b/c that is a position that is harder to find later in the draft. Sure it wasn't flashy, exciting ... I was and still am a bit bored by it, but in the end when our O-Line is solidified it will be a good pick.

We keep Monroe for the foreseeable, no use in cutting him and there is no market for a trade at this point. Then we line up with our best 5 on the field, whatever combination that might be. Can Wagner move to LG and be successful, I don't see why not.

LT Monroe / LG Wagner / C Zuttah / RG Yanda / RT Stanley ... that sounds like a good unit to me.

No way I'd put Stanley at OG;

Our LG leaving forced us to draft a OT in the first round?! LMAO

Will he have a better career here than Michael Oher? I'm dubious.

Buckner is going to make us regret this like crazy.

I feel the same. Idk why we didn't take Buckner. Feels like we reached for need.

It's a lot easier for a LT to kick inside to LG than a RT to kick into LG. If Monroe even gets past training camp it's going to be

LT-Monroe

LG-Stanley

C-Zuttah

RG-Yanda

RT-Wagner

Maybe we didn't take buckner because he's overrated?
