Game Breakdown

Carolina's first possession with Starters in.  They were awesome.  Michael Oher now their left tackle stymied Z Smith (something Stanley has not been doing) and even sent him out with a Poke to the eye! Watch out for the ones that got away........they'll poke your eye out!!

Jimmy Smith beaten for TD if a well thrown ball.

Z Smith showed a fury, especially with Oher out, but clearly has a limited gas tank. He's like a Bf-109, effective, but limited range.

Stanley

1- good seal block on Kony Ealy 1st team, 9 game starter
2-failed to seal Kony Ealy, but no harm
3- Stanley false starts but preseason they let it go....Ealy has him  beaten the long route and Mallet is flushed and fails to convert. Not a good play at all.

Carolina's second drive.....Starters all but gone.  Z Smith not facing Oher any longer.......now he's on a 2nd named Williams and gets the ball.
Carolina done with starters on Offense for second drive.

Baltimore Drive
4- Stanley is punched off the ball by a player weighing 50 lbs less (Horton) and only the line collapsing left keeps the QB safe.  Stanley doesn't appear strong, but no harm done
5- Stanley pulls left and is well positioned to block the outside backer he outweights by 75 pounds.....10 game starter.....makes his block, can't hold it and his man makes the tackle, but its a positive play for 8 yards.  Stanley can't sustain block after going hands to face......does a bit of high flailing.  Better watch that!
6- Stanley goes for the cut block on Horton and makes it, sorta, other laying down bodies there too....play going away.  This man gets in on the tackle but was off his feet momentarily.
7 - Comical here, eventually finds a rookie to patty cake with.  Play loses yards.
8- to this point his best play.......good block on Horton, quick pass to a tied up Waller.
9- another good block on Horton........Waller lets ball clank off his hands ....BINGO

Carolina's TD drive
Can't get a pass rush on their 2nds.  Zach Orr looking good. Our secondary still has monumental problems.

10- quick pass to waller, looks like a double team on Horton, but can't be sure.
11- moves Horton off play....mostly cuz horton went upfield...still good block
12- Gets a bull punch from non starter Brian Belchen 50, +75 pounds,  but quick hitter pass prevents any followup
13 - Does his job on a screen pass, nothing to really consider
14-  Gets a block on Horton again . +40lbs play going other side
15-  Gets a double team block on Horton, setting the edge, play goes inside
16- Taps Mario Addison, non starter, setting the edge
17 - Gets punched off the ball by non starter Addison +45lbs and if its not another quick hitter, he's gonna get beat to the inside.
18- Gets upfield, without resistance and gets a nice seal block on 6 game starter Klein.  So far my highest ranking for Stanley
19 - Gets made a fool of trying to cut no starter Addison and as clumsy as an ox..He looked like a ox on the other cut block too.........No Cut Block Stanley!...Dixon looking like the better selection.
20 double team with Hurst on Addison............bout 630 lbs vs 260.   Well they got the job done.....Mallet getting rid of ball quick....against carolina non starters.
21 - play goes away, not much to say, small gain near goaline
22 - Huge penetration on right side, T. West goes airborne........even Stanley is standing in end zone.  Nice TD vs their scrubs.

Thats it. And someone said, you can't determine what happened with a box score?  Reading is fundamental! but reading between the lines is a cultivated skill.

Really now? All that hubbub about those plays?  Anyone notice there was one run to Stanley's side?

Ok........not doin this again for a preseason game....think what you wish........but come Buffalo...lets dance!  It's the latest dance craze and its called "the Magnum Opus"

We scored the same 22, plays, but the slant on this is unreal.  Do you really need to point out that Stanley is 40-70 lbs heavier than the guys he's blocking?  Of course he is, he's an NFL LT!  Since he's not an exceptionally large NFL LT, literally every LT has these same size advantages, but very few could come away with the sort of clean sheet he had in game 1.

Stanley's backside effort was good and he didn't give up a single pressure, hit, or sack, nor did he get penalized.  That's a great place to start.  He was my highest-graded Raven on offense in week 1, largely because it's intended as a measure of change in expectations and expectations for Stanley as a rookie LT are lower than at other positions.  Here are my full grades along with an OL participation chart and notes if you're interested:

***Edit***:  Damn, Looks like I might have taken the bait reading up some and repeated the weight point made by another poster.  Unlike "Guest", I look forward to grading every block Stanley makes for the Ravens.

You try to take preseason with a grain of salt.   I thought we did pretty well.  I didn't see much playmakers or saw a 'star in the making'    A lot of 'contributors' with flash in the pan, but no consistent plays.

We need another probowler.

Thought West did fairly well.  Hope he stays consistent.   Its just a matter of evaluating whether he is just all flash in the preseason or the real thing once regular season rolls around

PFF rated Stanley a 1.6 for the game with their current Grading System which indicates that Eli Manning's pinpoint, long up the sideline pass in a recent Superbowl to Mario Manningham was a perfect play at a 2.0 score.  With that stated, they rated Matt Judon and Alex Lewis 2.1 and 1.5 respectively. (If you're asking how one scores a 2.1 with a 2.0 being perfect, don't, its stats.)

Weight can become relative in regard to situation but stats won't be able to reflect that, nor even comprehend it.

You don't think Stanley or Dixon looked like they could possibly be "star(s) in the making" ?

No........just deciding who to cut and who not to cut, that's all preseason is.

What one couldn't miss was:

Mallet's quick release, ok...he bonked one off a defenders back, but he got it out before the corner could even turn.

Judon  putting results on the board

Dixon can cut

You realize that PFF grades every play and then adds up the total score, so a 2.1 is possible...

I think when you change your name it deletes the old account and the post history with it.

No.  If you delete your account and re-register with a new name your post count starts over (and as a newbie you're back on preview).

I thought he was deleted from the forums by a mod lol

I kind of doubt it. I've seen worse trolling.

Yes. So have I. But that doesn't mean we should feed this one. Ignore him everyone. Let him keep spewing his stuff. We can't stop him.

I still have yet to watch the game. But the reports have been good. That team is knee deep in good pass rushers. Most of their seconds could be starters on another NFL team. Addison is a very good player for example whom he discredits.

Let him be.
