Isn't it almost always a stat padding MLB who wins it?

I think we all want to overlook him, but Bosa if he lands here. I also love the idea of Rankins going to a great defensive team as he is a force to be dealt with and might be a slightly below average projection on Donald with his style of play.

Yes, I agree, Myles Jack will be rookie of the year.

My thoughts were either Spence or Jack

I think Bosa could easily take it but this award in large part depends as much on where the player goes as overall ability. If Bosa is headed here to Baltimore then it'd be difficult because he probably won't start, whereas if Dallas takes him I could see it considering how anemic their pass rush is and all the suspensions they have on top of that.

I'll be punished for being bold but I'll go out on a limb and say Shilique Calhoun takes it with a 10+ sack season...no harm in making a bold prediction. Really though this thread should have waited until after the draft because, as I already said, it depends heavily on where each player goes.

calhoun is a solid pick. i think hes a sleeper, hes very athletic and very refined and isnt soft by any means, even if he isnt exactly powerful. his ability to bend and handfight with the OT and take different approaches to every snap will bode well for him.

and if bosa comes to baltimore i dont see him as a non starter, i think at worst hes a 3 down defender who plays multiple positions, OLB on run downs and sliding inside on passing downs, or playing DE in the nickel. i just dont see a player on our roster that would be good enough to take him off the field.

Where do we want to set the Bosa rookie sack marker, 8 sacks? under or over? If he lands here I easily say he gets 8.

If the front 3 play well, I think he's looking at 6-10 here as a rookie. He'd get plenty of snaps and opportunities for sacks.

I don't know, just look at this year's class, the best had 7 sacks I guess. Maybe the situation is better here for pass rushers but I'm not sure a rookie can go as high as 8+ sacks. It's been seen before, I know, but still.

I think Bosa here with Suggs and Dumervil he could put 8 or 9 sacks because teams will more likely double team the veterans. If he landed in Dallas I think he will be a non factor because there is no one else to compliment him on the other side.

I'd say 8for bosa is a good bar to set. He shouldn't disappoint and you can't discount the TFL he would bring against the run as well.

8 sacks for a player who is known for being a good run defender would be great. Dumervil is great but there is a reason he doesn't play on run plays. It is special when you can keep a player in a spot all 3 downs.

if william jackson iii ends up in a good situation like marcus peters last year, i think he could end up being the droy - he likes to gamble and that means splash plays (albeit he'll get beaten often as well but that's not what the voting is about) - although corners very rarely win

Exactly how I feel. Although when it comes to linebackers I find it hard to gauge their instincts unless they really jump off the screen by making constant plays

Mosley was an example. He was always beating the offense to the point of attack against the run and always had a knack for meeting the target at the pass location. I don't see it with darron lee but like I said I always find it difficult to accurately gauge linebackers instincts. I think db's are much easier to gauge.

I like the Lee pick. If he ends up with the right team that knows how to best utilize him he'll be making plays all over the field. Perhaps in

todd Bowles defense. He can do a ton of things well.

That is my point. Very often teams selected from the top 5 prospects that are not QBs are typically bad or unbalanced teams, unlike ours, therefore, having some real disruptive pieces up front will enable Bosa to take advantage of 1 on 1 situations, something he might have really missed in 2015. His motor is key and those sacks will come most likely in the 4th quarter when everyone is getting gassed.

Depending on the team he goes to, Correa might rack up enough sacks and tackles for losses that he'll be in the running. Also, among defensive linemen, Vernon Butler could end up in the running too.

Well, really hope I called this right.

Willie reed or Bronson kaufausi(idk if spelling right)playing along Williams and Jernigan. ;)

Kaufusi will be a force at DE with Williams next to him and Suggs and Dumervil on the edges. Don't forget Correa on the edges as well along with Ochi and Judon. We have some legitimate talent at outside linebacker and DE this year. If they hit those practices hard we may have pass rushers out of our pockets.

Yeah I stand by this. Right player right team right coach. Bowles will know how to get the most out of this playmaker. He was the underrated Mvp of the championship defense.

Personally I would like Correa, Kaufusi, Judon and Tavon Young as DROY candidates but realistically I think it'll be one of Bosa, Spence or Jack that'll get the nod.

To me the only ones who have a shot in our team are Kaufusi and Henry.

Henry, if he can be more consistent than Carl Davis as a rotational guy can get 7+ sacks.

Kaufusi, if he translates quickly, can be a massive disruptor all along the line of screamage.

Those are quite big IFs, but right now I don't see a guy that stands out and that will transition quickly. Bosa maybe but I doubt the Chargers will use him well. So I think it's an open contest.

I would be very surprised if Jack starts every game. Spence likely part time role player also.  Same with all our guys.  Bosa possibly. My money is on Lee with Boles
