I am not arguing with anything you are saying.  I am simply saying, having a top ten pick is not the be all end all of a successful draft. Or a successful team.
Case in point.  As much as WE ALL HATE the Patriots, they are one of the winningest teams in the past ten to fifteen years.  Their record can not be argued.  They have picked top ten TWICE since 2000.    I am trying to find out what team has had the MOST top ten picks in the past ten years.  I have a hunch they are an occasional  contender at best.  ( although I could be wrong, I just don't think I am )

For sure, we have to hit on our picks but I have faith in the guys to get the job done in that department.

As for the Patriots, as much as I hate Bill and Brady, they are both great and I think a good head coach QB combo goes a long way to a team being successful. They have not had any top picks lately either but they do hit on their picks better than we have recently.

I do think you can continue to be good even picking late and losing free agents but it is a losing battle as you have to hit on the picks you do get and keep ahead of free agency. A run like they have had is nothing short of amazing and they deserve all the credit in the world for keeping it going. In other news, I need to throw up but I will bring up other examples. Even a team like Seattle is slowly starting to slip back to the average NFL team. The Steelers have had their share of average seasons. The Bengals are finally getting to the point where being good is starting to weigh on them. The Packers have their share of holes(although again a good QB goes a long way to contending). It is really hard to stay as good as we did for as long as we did.

But basically it is very hard to stay contending in the current NFL and the Ravens have had a great run at it but this past season was time for us to take our medicine and rebuild. With luck, we will have another draft like 2008 and be set for more contending seasons. Hopefully we hit our first 2 picks out of the park and get some guys to help us get back to winning. I like a lot of the moves we have made in FA but the pressure is on with this draft and I'd say this is our most important one since 2008 by far.

We should all lay off of Winchester.  He's absolutely right.  He's always right and we know it.  Winchester believes 1 + 1 equals 11 and there is no way around it.

That's not 11, it's a roided up 2

That's a smart post right there.

BTW, we won two super bowls.  I wonder were we picked two or three years prior.

As a matter of fact I would like to see where the past ten Super Bowl winners picked two or three years prior.

Ask and you shall receive

Denver 23,31,28

NE 29,52,21

Seattle 62,15,25

Baltimore 35,27,43

Giants 19,15,29

Packers 23,9,36

Saints 14,7,27

Steelers 23,15,25

Giants 31,20,32

Colts 30,29,44

tanking or hoping to loose just for better picks tells me you dont have a winner mentality and personally i would hate to have people on my side with anything team related.

i have more respect for a 0-16 team that fought every single game trying to get a win then any other team tanked or lost on purpose regardless of the standing.

wont ever approve or respect anyone with a losers mentality.

Totally agree. On some points. 2-14 7-9 10-6 if you did not win the superbowl  you are a loser. No difference. So I would prefer to build toward a championship the following year. Anybody that would settle for 10-6 and a playoff Loss is not a winner mentality.

You are the one who said fat ugly nerds.  We were merely joking about your inability at punctuation.  But lets just stop here, we aren't talking football, lets get back on topic, PM a response if you want so we don't keep polluting this thread

i rather go 10-6 and loose in the play offs then go 2-14 just to pick high if that where the options.

however winning the SB is and always will be my goal.

heck i rather got 3-13 then 2-14 if that where the options.

Whatever option gives me the most wins will be the option i will always take.

The thing is, everyone wants a better draft pick.  If we so happen to of only won 1 game, so be it, but to lose on purpose is just nonsense.

Two top ten picks on that list. A 7 and a 9. Furthers my point.

Thanks for finding that for me.

Yea, I agree with your point to an extent. Others who are freaking out about not picking high enough when we are 6. Of course you want your picks higher, unless your at 32

i dont want a high pick.

i want the lowest pick per round.

picking 32 means we won the SB.

picking 1 means i we had a season to forget.

heck id forfeit the draft if that means we will win each and every SB....

people that want high picks should support the browns.
they manage to land those at quite an impressive rate.

This thread is getting better than the dump thread but back on topic...

Great info on only 2 top 10 picks prior to teams winning the SB.

There were some good posts in this thread and some not so good ones. Probably best to close it down, it's deviated from where it was meant to go.
