Agreed.

Especially when you see new users starting a new thread for anything that pops into their head... and especially when there's multiple existing topics this would be relevant in already.

Dont scare off the noobs, we all started from somewhere.

When you were a noob, did you start a new thread for your first post? And did you suggest that we should sign one of the most expensive corners in NFL history without the cap space available to do it at the same time?

This topic is innocuous enough to avoid, if you wanted to.

If nobody ever told you that you were doing something wrong... would you ever learn how to do it right?

Besides the fact he wants and absurd amount of money, the team that drafted him and had the cap to pay him, said no...  Possible red flag?

There's also the fact, I don't think he has the same success and last year was the first year he played all 16 games.

Its possible, of course.

But it's not a good decision on so many levels.

Being new to a forum and posting doesn't account for the complete lack of understanding how the cap works (I think releasing both players incurs more dead money than their current cap hit) or illogical thinking.

Could the Ravens  release Webb and jimmy smith and go after josh Norman ?

Don't hold me to it, but pretty sure releasing Jimmy Smith would cost us MORE than keeping him, so there's that.

Webb may be the same, and if not I don't think the savings justify losing the experience and potential upside on the back end.

Then there's the fact that Norman is similar to Jimmy in that Norman's only had 2 good seasons - one pretty good and one where the tape/stats bear out to him being one of the top corners in the NFL. Jimmy Smith has played at that level for stretches but his inconsistency is what has kept him from getting the national attention and recognition as a top 5ish corner.

Now that he's fully healthy I think he'll finally prove that he is exactly that. His play dramatically improved as the season wore on and was a big reason our pass D ranked so highly the 2nd half of the year.

Finally there's the fact that it's probably a net loss. Normans play style requires talent around him to be successful since he freelances and takes so many risky chances. Take away the existing talent and you're paying a ton for a guy that will likely struggle to replicate his 2015 success.... And the fact that your 2 recommended cuts don't help you get Norman bc it doesn't open additional cap space.

Side note: welcome... But a suggestion - we try to keep things cleaned and tidy. If you have a thought or idea you want to post try your hardest to find a thread it would be relevant in. For example, your post would be perfectly suited for the FA discussion that's pinned to the top of the topics.

In fact, Norman is being discussed on the most recent page.

even if not, by posting it an existing thread that topic moves to the top of the list so you will be seen/heard.

If and when your thought doesn't fit anywhere else, or it's so groundbreaking it needs it's own discussion (like breaking news - new signing, cut, something getting national attention, etc) then you create your own discussion.

And if you're unsure don't be afraid to ask someone who's been here a while.

read through the threads and you'll see the people who post a lot and are knowledgeable. Not everyone here agrees but most are very knowledgeable and respectful.

Again, welcome and looking fwd to your contributions. Just try and keep ones like this to a minimum or you're gonna get the sarcastic replies and knocked down a peg. Now you know :)

If ravens were not tied to Jimmy contractually I would cut him to make room for josh. His best play squashes Jimmy best

One of Jimmy's best plays occurred on 4th and goal and help secure a Superbowl win.  Name a play by Norman that even comes close to that!!

side note: folks jump on the newbie for his thoughts, but geez some of the vets make even bigger "SMH" comments.

Yes, some do.  Also that play last season where he intercepts the ball in the endzone and runs it back for the TD.  Had it not been for a boneheaded penalty, it would have been a more than 100 yd. pick 6.  Nobody's getting rid of Jimmy.
