Monroe was never the fit here that he was hoped to be.  It's best for both parties that he goes and plays elsewhere.

And that's the bottom line.

Trade / contract extension didn't work out for a number of reasons.

Vets NOT attending OTAs is not an issue.

That aside, he's wasn't medically cleared to participate in OTAs this year.  And when he was physically fit last year he still didn't attend the OTAs.

If he is healthy he is pretty much guaranteed a spot and probably has the starter spot on lockdown.

At this point its really still his job to loose.

He would either still be bothered by injuries or his play has to fall off a cliff  to consider his spot not guaranteed.

Or i guess Stanley starts off playing at an high level right away which rarely happens with rookie LT.

I honestly think,

we will trade monroe, we will accept whatever we can get.

I really think it's a matter of medical clearance

now if there is no trade, we will NOT cut him, he will play

He called out the entire team. It's not about the cause he is supporting. He called out the team, he's hardly ever on the field due to injuries, and he hasn't been as good as he used to be with his play.  And Sami, I know you love him, but why the hell did we draft Stanley if we planned on keeping Monroe? For all we know Stanley may have an amazing rookie season.

I just hope we can trade him for someone.

Send him to Seattle so he can go somewhere that supports his cause and be done with it.

So Richard Sherman for Monroe and Jimmy/Richard/Webb/Weddle form the best secondary ever.

Either one would make me happy lol.

I'm not among Richard Sherman's haters, I think he's a damn good corner and I love his fire.

I think he's good, but I think he's in a very safe scheme with a very elite FS

I don't love monroe, i'm pro nature ( marijuana)..I also can see he's better than all but ONE of our linesman when healthy ( and hes healthy as anyone else at this stage). Best keep monroe for this one season and play him with Stanley in both tackle positions. WE ARE BETTER WITH HIM AND STANLEY IN THE O LINE STARTING. Period.

*except for when Monroe inevitably gets injured and we have to slide Stanley over to the other side*.

Monroe has been average in his timer here since Kubiak got here. He's never healthy, and he is now lashing out against the team. Sorry, he's a decent player but he has to go.

As for the "we are obsessed with choir boys now"notion you are preaching.. We were line up to sign Adam Jones this offseason who has more issues than we can possibly count. Had Cinci not signed him, he would have been here in a heartbeat(ironically people complained about the speculation). Oh, and Alex Lewis assaulted a military person, Willie Henry has issues as well. So this notion is kind of false. "But we did not take Tunsil. We took Stanley instead because of the character thing." When you have two prospects whos differences are minimal  to begin with, along with their floors and ceilings, I would say that Tunsil was not too far ahead, then you take the one who does not have the character concerns. For all we know, Tunsil might become the next Josh Gordon, and I will tell you straight up, if I am an NFL executive, I do not want the next Josh Gordon, or Daryl Washington,Will Hill, Justin Blackmon, or so on and so forth on my team. Regardless of the stance on marajuana, IT'S STILL A BANNED SUBSTANCE in the NFL. He's fighting a battle he cannot win. The league will shut him down. "But he might turn into like a Justin Houston type for an olinemen." Well here's the beautiful thing about that.... SO MIGHT STANLEY.

Listen, Wagner played good again towards the end of the year, Zuttah is a lot better than you are giving him credit for. I'm more worried about LG than Stanley. Stanley's ability as a pass protector are already good enough. I don't know about Jensen, and Urschel is overrated. I don't think we are in as bad of a situation as you think. I do agree we need to go get a guard, but this isn't what Monroe will be traded for in all likelihood. Sorry dude.

Okay, just remember this when the O line struggles next year.

When, not if, when Monroe gets injured again and the oline is forced to play without him it will be no different. Difference is, we will have a draft pick next year to help us out. I'm of the notion that we need a guard too, but this oline isn't as bad as you are claiming. Granted, I miss KO, but it's not going to be horrid like you are proclaiming barring injury. At least I hope not. If I'm wrong, fine, but what does that prove? Nothing.

If you read my previous posts you will see I was at one point advocating for Monroe to stay here. I agree that he would great depth and we don't immediately need the cap space so from a football standpoint there is no reason to cut him, however the relationship between him and the ravens is far too broken. He doesn't seem to wanna be here and the Ravens don't want him here, they reportedly asked him to bulk up this season and instead he slimmed down which at the end of the day it's his body and his decision but they can't even agree on that. This is a case where the team and the player are both unhappy.

Source? Haven't heard that

With the Ravens searching to open up salary cap space last offseason, they asked Monroe to restructure his contract, but he refused, according to sources. The Ravens also would have preferred Monroe to get a little bit bulkier, but the 6-foot-5, 300-pound veteran sided with a leaner physique.

I don't want to get into the whole marihuana debate, but I agree it is stupid to trade him for a six round pick just to get rid of him and cutting him would be just plain stupid. The guy needed surgery on his nagging shoulder for a long time and he finally addressed it by getting the surgery. I know he has been injured a lot but we do not have too many options at LT. If we started him and he did get injured again then we can put Stanley in at LT. If we cut Monroe, then we only have Stanley, and if he gets hurt, who are you putting in????? Hurst?????? For what??????To get Joe killed again!!!!!!!! If they trade Monroe for peanuts or cut him.....I am not going to be a happy camper!!!!!!!!!! We may finally have a decent O-line with depth and I prefer to keep it that way. Yeah, I am thinking about Joe's knee and I am damn well want to keep our Quarterback healthy this year!!!!!!! Keep that man on the team!!!!!!

They're essentially firing him for speaking on a subject that does no harm to the organization. If it was because of badmouthing the organization which I know had something to do with it, but let's say he was a model player and still spoke out on marijuana, would they still feel the need to get rid of him? I'd think so.

No he's unreliable and isn't around to perform his job function. That's why he's getting "fired". This rumor was around longer than the discussion of him being a marijuana advocate.

Monroe can't stay healthy, he called out the team, and can't see eye to eye on anything with the front office. Pretty sure any player would be dumped off at this point for those reasons. He sure as hell isn't worth the money the the Ravens are investing in him. Dump him off to a team that's willing to take some of his cap hit.

Monroe has annoyed me lately. But I'd still prefer to keep him.

The Ravens job is to win games. Monroe gives you a better chance to do that, whether as a starter or as depth he improves the overall picture. I dont always like or agree with the people i work with, but if they have a skill or role thats important to our success - you deal with it.

Some of the stuff he's said, especially about the team, is BS. Its not professional. But this is a team that was going to keep Ray Rice after finding out he hit his wife. If they can overlook that for the good of the team, im sure they can over look a passive aggressive tweet.

aside from the fact that he is perpetually injured, he could easily be counted among the "average". He has never, as a Raven been better than decent or pretty good.

I'm getting a little tired of hearing how great a tackle he has been. He's been serviceable.

I might give him slightly above.  He was very good in his first half season with us before signing the extension.  Afterwards, even when healthy, he left a lot to be desired.  Maybe some consistent playing time (his fault, of course) would have pushed him back into the top 10 realm from 2013 and prior.  It's hard to say though because the past 2 years have essentially been a wasted investment.

he was an iron man in jacksonville. you know it is possible  in such a tiny season called the NFL season to have injuries which take up most of it!  WHy on earth is Pitta on this roster?

He was a iron man for The Jags but he  hasn't  been one for The Ravens. Since Monroe hasnt been a Raven that long it's not hard to believe that he fell out of favor among the coaching staff. It's really a frustrating thing for a coach to constantly witness a player in which the team heavily invested in to constantly miss games or most of the football season due to injuries.

Since Monroe himself feels so strongly against  the current NFL treatment for pain it's probably even more realistic to believe that he may  had refused to accept medical treatment and decided to heal on his own.

If that is indeed true then  that only leaves him even more less available to play football even when his team  needs him.Monroe can fight for cannabis research or treatment as much as he wants but until it's legal in all states in America especially the ones that have NFL football teams it's useless

After trade talks with Giants fell through, Ravens released OT Eugene Monroe, per sources. Now free agent. NYG, SD, SEA could have interest.
