this is fact. Even harbs said it..only reason why ed reed got away with giving harbs the shoulder was because he was ed reed.

Speculation at best... maybe. This thread is about Monroe, how in the world did we get to Ed Reed and 2012?

No one is PROVEN in just one season.

Esp after a bad injury.

More proven than any rookie.

I don't care much for Monroe. I was all for the trade in the beginning, but it just seemed like he didn't want to play for the Ravens anymore.

I completely understand why they released him and they should have earlier. For those wanting to keep him through preseason, why give a guy the time of day if you truly felt he didn't want to be there?

Good riddance. Hurts more knowing that he basically had the leverage in whether or not he got traded.

Maybe he'll be another Albert Haynesworth, getting that guaranteed money.

Why not? Everybody makes mistakes, no shame in it. Trade with JAX looked decent at the time, extension was almost forced move but didn't look too bad in the market back then. Injuries are part of the game, you can't predict them but what we missed was Monroe's general attitude - playing with pain is also part of the game and he doesn't subscribe to that notion. Workout warrior is actually soft.

We've eaten bigger dead money hits, we'll survive his as well. I'd rather eat that than cancer, which Monroe clearly was.

Cancer?? As in a cancer to the locker room ( distraction, someone bringing down the unity etc ), because I've never read anything of that nature...  The guy has been injured far too often yes, hasn't been what the team or us fans have hoped for sure.

It would be stretch to even say he's a huge distraction with his medical marijuana exploits...  The way this team has been ravaged with injuries the last few seasons, it doesn't hurt to have another body especially when you have to eat the salary anyway..

The team could have held on to Monroe at least until the 2nd Preseason game, to see if another team suffers an injury to get more trade interest.

On a slightly different note, the guy on here that can't stand Stanley and said if he's not a starter by the fourth game he's bust well....   I guess him being the day 1 starter shouldn't be a question any longer.

in my opinon only reason why ed reed wasnt released back in 2012 was because he's ed reed. If it were a solid pro harbs would have gotten rid of him. Harbs does think he's bigger than the team but that runs in the familly. Ed Reed never cared much for harbs.

And this has what to do with a Monroe thread?  Smh!

Monroe:  Good riddance!

2.2 this year + 4.4 next yr for an empty space

You nailed it. I don't agree with this guys crusade and he's missed time with injury but what I giant blunder this is. You have to keep him around as a backup if you can't get a good trade done. I think someone mentioned McKinney.

Beats having someone who hardly plays and doesn't want to be here

Strongly disagree. Who cares if he doesn't want to be here. He's not going to walk away. You keep him as a backup at least this year. If it was such a dire situation he could have been traded to the Jets. It's flat out compounding the extension mistake.

so we are going with a whole new left side with pretty much unproven as well some avg to below avg players?

well hope then jensen can win the LG job to at least have someone there with experience.
hope zuttah is ready to go at center as well.

Rookie T have been struggling for the majority lately so stanley got his work cut out for him and lets hope he wont miss a snap.....

That would be me...But Stanley hasn't started yet, nor faced NFL caliber pass rushers.  Also, lets not forget Newsome is the man that signed Monroe to the Big Deal.

In essence what we have is our next long term left tackle and a bunch more Newsome Dead Money.

I am sorry but this is a stupid move. The guy had a lingering shoulder injury that nagged him for years and he finally had surgery on it to correct the injury. He is finally healthy and we release a good serviceable Left Tackle for Hurst to be the backup. If Stanley (who has never played a snap in the NFL) gets hurt and we have to bring in the guy who allowed Joe's knee to get steamrolled......well, this just makes no sense to me. Isn't Joe's knee more valuable than the 4 million we just saved? I can't believe we let a serviceable Left Tackle (one the the most critical positions on a football team) walk over 4 million. You watch, this move is going to come back to haunt us. Monroe said that he finally feels fully healthy and we cut him. As far as the "Bad Blood" between him and the organization.....you mean to tell me they all could not have gone in a room together, sat down, and hashed things out like real men do? Give me a break!!!!!!! IMHO THIS IS A STUPID MOVE!!!!!!!!!! I don't have all the inside information but just piecing together all the comments and tweets, it seems to me that everyone involved acted like 7 year old children. I don't fully agree with Monroe's push for medical marihuana use in the NFL for injuries, but I respect his opinion and effort to make his argument on the subject. Monroe was paid to be the starting Left Tackle on our football team and when practice starts the coaches go and tell him to sit on the curb. I am sorry, but IMHO, it seems like things were not handled in a professional manner. I am sure I will get a lot of negatives for this post but I am very discouraged over this move.

Figured he would be gone would have preferred keeping him closer to the season incase of injuries , either for Baltimore or another team ( increasing trade value)

As for Monroe. If he was durable and subsequently reliable the talk about marijuana wouldn't be an issue.

Let's also not forget that Newsome has drafted multiple hall of famers and is almost unanimously considered one of, if not the, best GMs in the league. Don't know why you clearly have a dislike for him but you are pretty much alone on this one, not only here but amongst all fanbases as well.

Certainly does a lot for locking up Brandon Williams or Ricky Wagner

If we sign Williams and front load the contract a little for this year that would be freaking awesome. If we had $14 million then give him 10 or 11 in his first year then have that number slightly dip down to a manageable 8 million a year so maybe 11, 11 10, 9, 8 plus a signing bonus

Brandon Williams is aiming to beat Damon Harrison's 5 year, $46.25M contract.  Definitely not Cox money.  Like you said, it won't even be close.

If FO wanted to be super awesome and give us fans another sign of relief, they would lock up Williams to an extension using the extra cash to slightly front load the deal, giving him roughly 10-12 million in 16' then slightly dipping around 8 or 9. 12, 10, 10, 9, 9 plus signing bonus gives us manageable cap hits for an ascending talent, plus he will get more than Harrison

Unless Ozzie manages to use extra money to acquire a player in a trade or a vet or two after cuts, or even resign Williams or Wagner then this move will be completely unnecessary.

We need to capitalize on the money because now our LT depth outside of Stanley is scary. We could have had Monroe either play RT or as an awesome insurance policy if either tackle was roughed up for a game

Need to save some for emergencies season, practice squad guys. Cap space is always misleading before week 1.

I dont get this move....our LT position is worse without Monroe.

No matter how bad the trust/off-field issue is with monroe, you need him at least as a depth guy.

We are putting our o-line core to extreme measures and putting more pressure where it doesnt need to be in...i don't know about this...but hope our FO figured something out.

I disagree, this is a team. If you can't put the team first, I don't care who you are or what position you play, I don't want you here.

I give Newsome credit for the achievements of the past.  His name needs to be in the Ring of Honor.

However, he is 60 years old and I no longer believe he is a part of our future.  The totality of the Eugene Monroe saga even more fully illustrates that.  First he had to have him, then he let him go prematurely.  You'd have to laugh if it wasn't so tragic for us.  The man literally can't get out of his own way any longer.

We let players go when they haven't produced.  Newsome has embarrassed us since the last Championship. Eventually, Bisciotti will understand we are in reverse gear and he will do the right thing.  They will have to drag Newsome out, because he has no intention of leaving. It will be sad, like a boxer that stayed too long in the game, but what will be sadder is how much ground we are likely to lose before it happens.

I don't love monroe, i'm pro nature ( marijuana)..I also can see he's better than all but ONE of our linesman when healthy ( and hes healthy as anyone else at this stage). Best keep monroe for this one season and play him with Stanley in both tackle positions. WE ARE BETTER WITH HIM AND STANLEY IN THE O LINE STARTING. Period.

Dude, he doesn't want to be here. That's the point.
