Certainly does a lot for locking up Brandon Williams or Ricky Wagner

I'm thinking Williams is going to test the market, why wouldn't he with these prices? I'd love to have him back but I also don't want to overpay, especially for a guy who doesn't have a big impact against the pass.

As for Wagner, I'd like to see him return to his healthy 2014 form before we give him any more money.

It does sound like we'll get en extension done with Tucker though.

Maybe - more meat on his bones might make him more durable.

I've heard that before but I forget from where. I didn't see enough of Wesley to get a good feel for him. From what I've read he's a size/strength prospect with poor technique.

Honestly, if there's one coach I trust with that type of prospect, it's Castillo

But sadly he will get more crap from people who don't know better.

Lets just say there's a reason I'm confident in Stanley

Stanley learning from Castillo... Oh yeah. Looking forward to that.

Beats having someone who hardly plays and doesn't want to be here

I don't believe Brandon will allow himself to be locked up considering what the Eagles guy got. He'll wait to test free agency and bolt for the biggest buck out there. I think they use the extra space to lock up Tucker and maybe Wagner.

I think he's as good as gone, we aren't tagging him and he'll get more on the free market than Damon Harrison got.

Wow more dead money for 2 years now?...

They shouldn't have proclaimed the trade talks!

The issue isn't what we wanted, it was Eugene's contract

I had already read an article on either Russel street report or Baltimore beatdown that broke down why he wouldn't be traded and due to Monroe having the leverage in contract talks with other teams that wanted to trade for him. Meaning he wouldn't take a pay cut if asked to.

And that would lead to his release by the end of the day.   But given all the talk about best 5 lineman possible I figured the team would at least hold him through preseason.

Maybe both - Wagner's probably cheapish. Right tackles don't cost a whole lot. If Bryan Bulaga is only making 5 years 34 million, Wagner won't be more than 35 - in my opinion.

But then there's the question of whether we even want to re-sign him. Right tackles are replaceable, and Alex Lewis might be his replacement.

Precisely. Williams is far and away the priority.

I really hope Wagner gets resigned. That would allow us to finally get stability on the line. Having him and Stanley together the next 4 or 5 years with yanda finishing out his career between them and the likes of Alex Lewis or jensen or urschel beginning their career as starters at the opposite guard spot...

I'd hate to finally get a LT long term onlY to experiment and fail on the right side and watch Joe run for his life again.

Trade talks fell through with the Giants and the Ravens just said, "See ya"

Hmmm maybe The Ravens were interested in The Giants corners such as DRC

It was actually that Monroe wouldn't take a pay cut

Unless you expected Monroe to play out his contract, he was likely to be released next year anyway, which means the $4.4M was going to count in 2017 either way.

Once they drafted Stanley, this move was inevitable.

Bottom line:  They weren't going to pay $6.5M in cash to an unreliable player to sit on the bench.  No team would.

They had $6.3M in Cap space prior to this, which is enough for minimum salary moves and to carry into the season, but would not likely leave much of a carryover.  Now, they can look to extend Williams/Wagner - both of whose Cap numbers will increase with an extension - and carry over the rest.

Absolutely, Wagner is a proven commodity and won't break the bank.

No one is PROVEN in just one season.

Esp after a bad injury.

doubt Cox' new contract would greatly affect what Williams is worth, their games are entirely different. Sacks = cash and that's why Cox got paid so much, run stuffing NT will never get anywhere near that money. Williams will get a heck of a lot, don't get me wrong but he isn't getting anywhere in Cox' ballpark.

Brandon Williams is aiming to beat Damon Harrison's 5 year, $46.25M contract.  Definitely not Cox money.  Like you said, it won't even be close.

Get a guy who has pretty good technique already and then give him to a master of it... Oh my god. Could be an all pro by year two if Stanley isn't a PITA

Why not? Everybody makes mistakes, no shame in it. Trade with JAX looked decent at the time, extension was almost forced move but didn't look too bad in the market back then. Injuries are part of the game, you can't predict them but what we missed was Monroe's general attitude - playing with pain is also part of the game and he doesn't subscribe to that notion. Workout warrior is actually soft.

We've eaten bigger dead money hits, we'll survive his as well. I'd rather eat that than cancer, which Monroe clearly was.

in my opinon only reason why ed reed wasnt released back in 2012 was because he's ed reed. If it were a solid pro harbs would have gotten rid of him. Harbs does think he's bigger than the team but that runs in the familly. Ed Reed never cared much for harbs.
