[News] Late For Work 4/20: What Ravens Draft Board Might Look Like

47 posts in this topic

I would like to give a tip of the cap to the Ravens writers.  It must be extremely hard to come up with content during the off-season.

But somehow you do it day in and day out.  Like me, I know they can't wait until the draft, OTAs and rookie camp.  I'm sure it makes it easier to come up w/ informative articles during that off-season stretch.

Not going to do 150 player draft board but based on what I have gleaned from the news and what I feel I know about the Ravens and put together my top 5 which is all we will need for the 6th overall pick. 1- Ramsey (had issues with coaches but is an athletic freak worth #1 overall) 2. Hargreaves (Pro-ready, grew up around NFL, extremely smart, hard working, quiet) 3. Buckner (strong pass rusher but pass rushers are heavy in the draft and can get Spence at beginning of 2nd round. top 5 pick worth a chance) 4. Stanley (have heard analysts who say he is better than Tunsil. Also, Tunsil was there when Nkemdiche was stoned and fell out of window. guilty by association) 5. Elliott (Don't think Ravens will take a RB here but that is next on my board). For those I did not pick Bosa (had off field issues was suspended for a game at Ohio state for refusing drug test) Goff (Ravens would take a first round QB? stupid pick) Jack (medical questions keep him out of first round pick) That should be fodder for people to tear apart my top 5 and call me stupid...

Well, its all speculation at this point, though the "tearing apart" piece would obviously come from the laughable notion of Tunsil not being highly ranked on the Ravens board because he was in a room where a guy fell out of a window. Not exactly what I would consider to be an intelligent reason for not drafting somebody, and luckily, I don't think any reasonable person thinks that affects his draft stock.

I'll second that thought, as frustrating as I get waiting for football... They do their best with what they have to report

Is PFF's "Ravens draft board" anything more than pure guesswork?

I would doubt that. And that's where anyone taking it any kind of seriously, should stop.

I like it. I think it's between Tunsil/Buckner/Hargreaves. All the really good corners will be gone by 36 I would assume we can get better D Line men in the second than we could get a corner in the second. Guess they will match talent with need and see where the board falls. Will be interesting to see.

The sad part is that the final version will almost surely be a true "color rush" - a single color uni... and a color that's not even in the Ravens color pallette  - like an all grey one, for example...

A couple interesting twists and turns that caught me by surprise. In a perfect world, the Ravens grab Tunsil in Rd. 1, Spence in Rd. 2 and Cyrus Jones in Rd. 3. If Alexander were to drop to us in Rd. 2, I think we go that direction and look for Correa, Kaufusi in Rd. 3 or Jenkins in Rd. 4.

I doubt the Ravens have Buckner rated as a top 5 prospect much less at #2

Buckner is one of the only top guys the Ravens never brought in for a pre-draft interview...may be smoke and mirrors, but they really havn't shown much interest in him.

I am kinda surprised that Hargreaves is ranked #18 in the PFF draft board, and #12 on their Ravens board. They also have William Jackson III rated above him on both boards. Most mock drafts i've seen have Jackson going mid to later 1st...anyone know why the jump here?

It's just one person's opinion, PLEASE don't put ANY weight on it.

The Ravens have been really good at finding quality lineman in the later rounds of the draft. Same goes for rotational pass rushers. I think they would prefer to take a game changer like Ramsey or Jack if available. Tunsil has missed games every season in college due to injury. If Ramsey and Jack are gone by 6 maybe they try to trade down a few spots, pick up another second or third and take Stanley or Hargraves.

Why?

Well besides not showing much interest in Buckner, IMO he's one of these guys that has been overhyped for the media. I don't really like him all too much especially at #6. In watching him play he seems like much more of a project player, he gets pushed out of the play more often than actually standing out. He relies too much on his strength, which has worked for him in the college level, but I think he lacks the technique that would make him an impact player against NFL offensive lineman. Once again this is just my opinion.

Just 10 more days and all the endless draft speculation will be over.

Eight more days to answer all the "do we stay put or trade back" questions.

We're almost there.

All the news on ESPN this morning was about Cleveland trading their #2 pick...even in a pretty dismal QB draft it seems a lot of teams are feeling desperate to get a QB. Interesting to see just how big a run could be, and what teams are willing to give up. For the right deal it would'nt surprise me if the Ravens drop back...

In order for us to trade back I think it would have to be that Bosa, Jack, Ramsey, and Tunsil are all gone at our pick, in which case we would trade back somewhere that we could still pick Hargreaves or Zeke. If even one of those players is still on the board I think we stay put unless the trade involves a future first rounder along with a 2nd pick this year.

I don't understand how NOT to consider Tunsil or Stanley as the very strong, probable #6 picks for the Ravens. Both of these players clearly separate themselves from the rest of the class of Tackles in the draft. So much is put on the performance of one day, or press coverage, of personal opinion I do not agree that there is enough evidence to really prove one will be a better NFL player than the other.. These two young men have played all Ammerican Tackle positions at the top collegiate level. Sure we do not know what it will take for ether to develop as NFL players however they have been observed by scouts and coaches for years, game after game, of which I would put stock in much more than that of banter or commentating. The Ravens need at OT is huge.To use this pick otherwise on a judgement of equal Merritt and performance when clearly the likes of the DB, DT WR and others at the top of the class do not surpass (at superstar level) either Stanley or Tunsil would be at best risky. My choice is take one of the tackles, it might not be the popular choice but it is the sound football choice for this team right now. Move to 2nd, 3rd and then the 3 -4th picks and get a group of young position players to develop, and maybe a "gem".
