Ravefan52's First & Last Mock Draft

19 posts in this topic

Here's my first and only mock I'll make. The past couple of years I don't think anyone has predicted our first three, or even two, picks correctly, so I decided to go a little bit different route here. Let me know what you think.

1. Rams: Jared Goff - All signs point to Goff being the selection. I'd be surprised if it isn't him.

2. Browns: Carson Wentz - Whether its the Browns or another team, I think the second QB comes off the board here

3. Chargers: Laremy Tunsil - They've been trying to upgrade Rivers' protection for forever. Don't overthink this San Diego, Tunsil is the best player and fills a need. There will be an impact defender available at 35.

4. Cowboys: Jalen Ramsey - Everything about him screams Cowboys and Jerry Jones to me. Unless it's a QB, he's probably no. 1 on their board.

5. Jaguars: Myles Jack - Ramsey is gone and they're pretty stacked at DL. Adding a rare coverage linebacker would make a ton of sense in a division with Luck and Mariota.

6: Joey Bosa | OLB | Ohio State

Need meets BPA perfectly and the Ravens land an elite defensive prospect in Joey Bosa. I love Bosa and I think he's the type of impact defender we need. He's NFL-ready with great technique, strength and athleticism. He's a disciplined defender who does an excellent job using his hands and disengaging from blockers. No, he isn't the most explosive edge rusher, but he makes up for it in other areas. I think he fits fine as a standup OLB and I really don't care if he can't drop back and cover. That's not why you're drafting him. Having him learn behind Suggs and Dumervil while mixing in the rotation is an ideal situation. His best fit is at LDE where he'll dominate RT's at the next level and occasionally move inside. He's a very polished player and still has a high floor. No realistic way we pass on him if he's there.

2nd (36): Robert Nkemdiche | DL | Ole Miss

hi-res-9537617e738b2475d869e9b090a157ff_

On the field, Nkemdiche displays elite athleticism and freaky natural ability, capable of dominating everywhere along the line with his size and movement skills. He has an ideal combination of length, explosion and power that allows him to beat blockers as a pass rusher in a number of ways. He has easy footwork with quick and heavy hands. Although he does need to become more consistent in his technique and against the run, I don't think he's that far away and all the physical tools are there. His potential is insane.

Off the field is where the bigger questions come. Everyone knows the stories of his 'character concerns'. And he's a strange dude, there's no way around that. But what the Ravens have to figure out is if he's someone who's going to get in trouble or if he's just a unique individual, and if they're willing to take on that type of personality. By this time, they'll have done their homework on Nkemdiche. Coaches and teammates have both endorsed him as a person, the concerns aren't over domestic violence and the front office has shown a willingness to take chances on players who have used marijuana in the past (He's smoked before in college, but It's unknown if he was at the hotel with that whole incident). So that's why I think there's a chance we could take him and at this point he's worth the risk if we really believe in him.

Also, this DT class is stacked and there's a good chance one is BPA early. If not Nkemdiche, then I could see a guy like Vernon Butler or Chris Jones if they're still available. If we do go Nkemdiche though, it'd give us a pair of top five prospects and the future of our defense. Just imagine Suggs, Dumervil, Bosa and Nkemdiche all on the field at once. Wow.

3rd (70): Nick Martin | C/G | Notre Dame

Martin is a smart, balanced player with NFL bloodlines. His technique, along with his versatility to play both center and guard make him an immediate and future option at both positions. He's very aware as a blocker and shows toughness with a mean streak. Osemele is a big loss for this team and an upgrade along the line would really beneficial. With Zuttah, Urschel and even Jensen's ability to also play both guard and center it gives us a lot of options on the interior. He also allows us to comfortably move on from Zuttah next year and save $3 million against the cap. If Monroe can stay healthy and Wagner regains some of his form I think we can have a really good o-line.

4th (104): Will Redmond | CB | Mississippi State

Redmond is an athletic, quick footed corner with the ability to play outside or in the slot. He has decent height and moves like a smaller corner with active footwork and loose hips. I think he can develop into a starter in time as he has the physical tools. Addressing corner this late isn't ideal, but we can get a good one here early in the 4th. No matter how early we take one, we're still going to have to bank on Jimmy returning back to his old self and others staying healthy.

*Trade - Ravens give 6th (182) to move up about 10 or so picks

4th (130): Nick Kwiatkowski | ILB | West Virginia

Kwiatkowski isn't a thumper and is just an average athlete for the position, but he's is an experienced and balanced player with decent movement skills. He has good ball skills too with 6 career interceptions and is effective blitzing. Between him, Orr and Brown I think we shoul find a solid rotation that works next to Mosley.

4th (132): Mike Thomas | WR | Southern Miss

DeCosta talked about finding that mid-round WR that turns into a real player, well this is my guy. This combine non-invite was highly productive in college and played well against bigger schools like Nebraska and Washington. He has decent size at 6'1 and plays big. One of my favorite parts of his games is how explosive he is in and out of breaks. He's also shown good body control and an ability to make circus catches. Thomas needs to shows more overall consistency, but he's very talented and he could turn into a playmaker.

4th (132): Willie Beavers | OT | Western Michigan

Clearly an upgrade in needed over Hurst at backup OT. Beavers comes from small school, but has faced big time competition such as Ohio State, Michigan State and Khalil Mack. He's an athletic tackle with light feet whose best fit is in the ZBS. He's pretty raw, but there is definitely potential.

6th (209): Tavon Young | CB | Temple

Young's size (5'9) combined with a below average vertical restricts him to the slot and pushes him down to here. He is pretty tiny, but plays bigger than you'd guess and is pretty fast. He's a smart, slot corner who plays best in zone. Also, he performed pretty well against Will Fuller during the season and at the Senior Bowl.

Very nice because it offers options we haven't talked about. Nkemdiche is a puzzling choice but worth debate in the 2nd round, Martin is a very smart move. Not sure about the CBs though, but it doesn't matter.

Nkemdiche is in my opinion the biggest boom/bust guy in this draft.  I feel like Rex Ryan will take him in the first though.  But I would be ok with this, pretty happy actually.

I don't think I trust Nkemdiche enough to take him there. Just seems like an overall crazy guy.

I love the draft. I mean Nkemdiche is probably a little whacky and has some concerns, but if he pans out and his abilities are maximized, our front 7 will be highly disruptive.

Nick Martin in the third would be a no brainer and a coup. Tough to imagine a more solid third round selection....really like the corners you selected.

Would not touch your second round selection. Not a good pick to me.

I am not a huge Nkemdiche fan, but I can't act like I wouldn't love him and Bosa/Jack/Ramsey. He has all the potential in the world, and even if he doesn't reach that he is still a player that cannot be stopped 1-on-1. If we do end up with Bosa and Nkemdiche teams will have to pick their poison cause there isn't a team that could stop them both along with the fact that we have Jernigan and Brandon Williams. The only way I see the Ravens getting Nkemdiche is if he makes it to the late 20s and we trade up (Packers at 27?). I feel like it would cost a lot to trade up in the early 20s with teams like the Jets, Redskins and Texans. I don't see Steelers or Bengals trading with us.

My concern is that Nkemdiche will never play a down after he buys his panther and gets his arm mauled off lol.

I totally forgot about that that's hilarious.

I like this one, I kinda like the CB's taken when they were taken too.

Nkemdiche in the 2nd round is a classic Ozzie move too. (DL, possible 1st round talent with Off-field red flags)

I also believe we are overdue for a Good Center prospect.

This would be an amazing draft. Bosa and Nkemdiche in the front 7 would give us the intimidation up front we've lack for some years. Say what you want about Pees, but the man knows how to maximize talent in the front 7. Can't say the same for the secondary though lol.

I almost hope Nkemdiche pulls it together because he has so much raw talent and athleticism to be all wasted because he like pet panthers and cannonballing out of hotel windows..

There are two ways to make a mock: what you want and what you think the Ravens do. What kind of mock is this? I ask because I don't see us taking Nkemdiche.
