Dubs' Final mock and Big Boards

9 posts in this topic

I think this will be my last mock. Wanted to try something a little different here, have a big board for each of the first couple of rounds on players I think may be available and how I rank them...pretty rough ones after the first and I probably missed some guys.

1st round) Laremy Tunsil | LT | Ole Miss
- I actually think we have a very realistic shot at him. This assumes the draft goes: Rams--Goff...Browns--Wentz...Chargers--Ramsey...Cowboys--Bosa/Zeke...Jags--Jack...then lucky us. If the Chargers go Ramsey I will be excited as I think the chances are very high--I think Jacksonville has shown to be one of the more patient franchises and I don't see them giving up on Joeckel quite yet, and if they have to mid-season they have Beachum. Won't say much on Tunsil other than we would be lucky if we get him

1st Round Big Board
Jalen Ramsey | CB
Laremy Tunsil | LT
Myles Jack | LB
Joey Bosa | Edge
Vernon Haergraves | CB
Ronnie Stanley | LT
DeForest Buckner | DL
Kevin Dodd | Edge
Ezekiel Elliott | RB

2nd round) Mackensie Alexander | CB | Clemson
- There are a lot of late 1st to early 2nd round CBs with a ton of talent. I expect we get a shot at atleast one of them. His lack of size and turnovers puts him in a position where I see us being able to choose him in the 2nd round. I do have some major worries that he will get flagged in the NFL as he does not look back for the ball early enough, and I am really unsure if he can locate the ball in the air quickly while not loosing positioning. As a NB I don't think that will be much of an issue but as he transitions to the perimeter over his career it may be a cause for concern.

2nd Round Big Board
Corey Coleman | WR
William Jackson | CB
Mackensie Alexander | CB
Sheldon Rankins | DL
Kendall Fuller | CB
Noah Spence | Edge
Artie Burns | CB
Vernon Butler | DL
A'Shawn Robinson | DL
Cody Whitehair | OL
Jason Spriggs | LT
Su'a Cravens | LB/S

3rd round) Sterling Shephard | WR | Oklahoma *Trade up* (use late 4th rounder)
- I really like our WR core and yes he will likely be non-existent in his first year given our logjam at the position but this pick is for next year and the year after. Plus he is one of my favourite players in the draft. SSS is likely in his last year, Mike Wallace is basically a one year contract, Aiken contract coming up, Permian we have no real clue of what he will be like...If we don't draft a WR with one of our 3rd or 4th rounders I will be amazed as it will be one murky situation next year/ next couple of years.

3rd round Big Board
Sterling Shephard | WR
Kamalei Correa | Edge
Pharaoh Cooper | WR
Nick Martin | OL
Charles Tapper | DL
Tyler Boyd | WR
Adolphus Washington | Ohio St.
Will Redmond | CB

Early 4th) Deion Jones | ILB | LSU
- Don't think he is as twitchy as a guy like Telvin Smith but he provides some nice athleticism to our D. Not sure what our ILB situation after this season in terms of who will be beside CJ Mosley...Good to have someone groomed as we go and should be a ST contributor at the very least early on.

Comp. 4th) Jordan Jenkins | Edge | Georgia
- One of my favourite players, he just produces. He really is exactly what we look for in terms of edge setters. Should replace Upshaw with a very similar style of game and hopefully bring some pass rush presence also.

Comp. 4th) Matt Ionpnadis | DL | Temple
-Again a fav player of mine, love how he plays the game. One of those guys I would be worried about if he was forced into starting early on as he has an NFL build and style of play that should withstand the trenches.

6th round) Kevin Hogan | QB | Stanford
- Don't see Mallet being our long-term backup and would like to see Trestman have someone to work with over the duration of a couple years. Really like Hogan's demeanour and team attitude. Has one heck of an ugly release but overall gets the job done.

Comp. 6th) Isaac Seumalo | C | Oregon St.
- Literally can play any position, and has a versatile size that will help him. Think his best fit is at C, I am a huge fan of versatile OL and I think the Ravens have shown they have coveted that in the past drafting guys like Jensen, Urschel, Jason Brown, etc.

-------------

This is very much my dream situation and likely not going to happen...my quick more subdued/realistic draft would go: 1) Joey Bosa...2) Artie Burns...3)Pharoh Cooper...the rest is more believable...

I like it except that I don't see both the Chargers and the Jags both passing on him. In fact I expect the Titans to trade back to #5 with Jacksonville to take Tunsil if he drops past San Diego. Also, the Jags not exercising their 5th year option of Joeckel gives me pause. So I don't really see them passing on Tunsil if he does fall to them. Having said that they are deeply interested in Myles Jack because the GM and the HC flew down to the west coast in the last few days to have another meeting with Jack. So, who knows? We may end up with Tunsil!

PS: But, remember I called the Titans trade down with the Jags to get Tunsil first!

I was talking to a buddy of mine and he said he didn't believe the Chargers would pick up Tunsil because they have decent tackles and the Chargers need to address interior linemen which can be addressed later in the draft. Jaguars have also said they pretty much want their first pick to be on the defensive side of the ball. Their offense played really well last season. If the Browns don't take Tunsil there is probably a 75% chance he falls to our pick if no other team trades up for him.

I like this draft and the move to trade for Shepard.

I still feel the Ravens go safety pretty early. Not wild about Hogan in the sixth.

As far as the more "subdued";  Artie Burns would not be a good pick at all for me and Oline would probably factor in in either round two or three.

Digging it!!! Hit the major areas of need, IMO and that's OL (especially a potential replacement for Monroe, this yr or next if we drop him), CB (although Alexander isn't my fav, he's good value and worth the pick). Speed/athleticism in the middle of the field: off - Shepard, def - Jones. And pass rush with Jenkins (Correa or Fackrell or Ochi perhaps Ngakoue) could maybe work in the 4th...but overall great realistic mock!!!

BTW we have four 4th rounders. But anyway, if we land Jones and Jenkins in the 4th though, I will be happy. The 4th round is where we will uncover a gem, make my words! lmao A lot of interesting prospects to be selected.

Can anyone give me a breakdown on their opinion on Alexander VS Jackson VS Fuller.  This is one I cant determine anything about.

Draft is solid and the big board aspect lets us know who was not available, good job.

Draft is solid and the big board aspect lets us know who was not available, good job.

- Jackson is the more prototype corner. He's a big guy who is very fluid but still is somehow raw. I think his  ceilings are the higher of the  groupe you mentioned. Some teams are in LOVE with him right now and he's on the rise. I think he's a sure 1st rounder at this point. He got some technique problems he's not that light on his feet and I like my corners to be in control of their legs at all times. He's a bigger physical outside corners who will struggle with quick passes. Will struggle a bit when he's behind the WR just like Fuller but not a lot of CBs would remain calm (Ramsey, VH3 and Alexander are the best in that category in my mind). I don't think he's a day 1 starter he will need coaching thats why I like Alexander better who in my opinion is a nickle corner right off the gate. Jackson seems a bit soft at times when facing big guy he doesn't seem to have that attitude I like in corners.

- Alexander is a cocky smaller slot corner. He's feisty and fight his way out of blocks and he's pretty solid in tackling. He's shorter but very compact. He's got some problem following the ball in the air but Jimmy Smith had the same problem in his first 2 years. I think it is because he doesn't watch films rights and thats why sometimes he gets beat on quick routes at the line of scrimmage because he didnt anticipate the tendencies of the other WR. Apparently his teammates say he's a film junkie so worth ethic is there but I think he doens't watch the right things and needs coaching. I believe he could be a very good corner but I'm in the minority here. TO be honest I would even trade up (in the 27-31 range if still on board) for him I'm very high on this kid. He's light on his feet and hesitant at times but it is all coachable things unlike Apple who doesn't seem to know why he's on the field and what to do. He's got that attitude I like about corner. He's a man to man first type of corner. Could shadow some smaller WRs.

I heard his interviews weren't so great so I don't know what to think of it. Some teams might not like his attitude but I feel he's a defensive Steve Smith who don't stop until he proves everyone wrong. Chip on his shoulder type who can me a problem in some locker room just like Josh Norman....

- Fuller, well I've said it a few times he reminds me a bit of Malcom Jenkins, not the way he plays but what you get with him. I think he would be better playing safety in a few years when the things slow down for him. Right now its hard to play safety in the NFL he would be better to start as a cover 2 corner playing the underneath routes. He's VERY good with he keeps everything in front of him. As soon as he's behind the receiver, he doesn't locate the ball and he panics. Had some serious injuries the last 2 seasons and tried to play through it so he's kinda tough kid. Injuries are all gone and he got great news last week he's fully healthy. He's a good tackler and jumps short routes well. He makes plays on the ball when he sees the receiver and the QB. Thats why I see him as a zone corner. When his back is turned he's like another guy. Not the best man to man corner but would be better with help on top. He's not a guy you can play cover 0 with like Alexander (in my opinion).

=== This is my own opinion and I'm on the minority liking Alexander here but I really like him. ===
