Stanley Cup Playoffs thread

Suprised to not see a thread already so I'll start it.

I know at least a few here are watching the Capits-Flyers series.

This is going to be a great series. Caps are up 1-0 after a great very close game 1.

I thought the referees called way too many penalties against both teams in game 1. Traditionally, they let all but blatant stuff go in the playoffs, so hopefully we can see more 5 on 5 tonight!

Caps were very tight, almost seemed nervous in that first game. Of course, as you mention, both teams were on the PP/penalty kill for a crazy amount of time. The game flowed a bit better last night after they settled down. Holtby is in form and a beast. Glad they held serve.

Good to see the pens lose yesterday. They were arguably the hottest team in hockey the last few weeks of the season. Time for them to chill!

Yeah Holtby was impressive in game 2.

THough I think the Flyers played a better overall game than the Caps, the caps were blocking shots all night, and of course the goaltending.

I'm a Flyers fan, die hard since age 6. I can honestly say that the Capitals are just a better team right now, though I'm definitely proud of the way my flyers are fighting.

Its just great to see two tough teams, two excellent coaching staffs and two excellent goaltenders in a series.

Yeah, similar for me with the Caps. Many a playoff heartbreak over the years.   lol

Flyers were definitely working hard and the shot clock showed it.  As we know playoff hockey is all about the power play/penalty kill and goal tending. Caps had the two sweet goals and that one fluke, then the icing late in the third.  I'm still puzzled about the 110 footer. It's like Mason was in another world.

Good win for the Flyers last night, they played well. Neuvy made the difference in the end.

Caps were sleep walking through the first two periods and dug too deep of a hole. They can't do that in the playoffs and expect to move forward.

Still a long way away, but at least we're making the Caps work for it. Imagine if we get more than ELEVEN shots next game.

Come on Caps, get it done today! Don't make me sweat this any more! I hate the Pens, but damn they are on fire. That team has serious speed and puck control and that back up goalie is no joke. I admit I am scared to face that team, but we still have to get past the Flyers first.

They just need to play the same game as Friday, without the dumb penalties(that means you Williams!).  Neuvy is bound to let some in sooner or later.

Maybe they needed this to temper their resolve, because you are right, the Pens are super hot. It will take a concerted effort to beat them.

LET'S GO CAPS!

Neuvirth stood on his head and single handedly made it a competitive series. Good on him.

Now on to the enemy!

I agree, he played very well. The Caps put a lot of good shots on goal and he stopped all but the very good shot by Backstrom. I admit the Flyers had me sweating to the end. I was praying one of those empty netter's would go in to take the heat off.

So Schenn gets 3 game suspension next year for charging Oshie.

http://www.russianmachineneverbreaks.com/2016/04/26/brayden-schenn-suspended-3-games-next-season-for-head-shot-on-tj-oshie/#more-105678

I thought he should have been suspended for the series after trying to take out Kuznetsov's ACL in game 4. Pretty nasty stuff, all of it.

Odd for him, too. You guys definitely got to him. Most Flyers fans don't care much for Schenn, but that has nothing to do with plays like this, which again are rare for him.

Im excited to see a team that is rebuilding show enough heart to get into the playoffs from a huge early-season hole. And they didn't give up after falling down 3-0 to the best team in the league, either.

We have a young star defender in Gostisbiere to go along with many of the other top prospects in our minor league system, mostly more defenders. What worries me is that we seem to be moving towards a top defensive team, but we just went through an entire six-game series in which we could only muster six measley goals. Giroux without any other scorers is like the NBA's Nash in his prime if he was surrounded by garbage scorers.

Other than Schenn's crap and the end of game meltdown in Game 3 the Flyers hung tough. No shame in that performance.

Please join in and root against the Pens!

You can absolutely count on that. Probably my least favorite team in all of sports, including Steelers and Patriots.

I don't normally follow hockey,,But i saw on ESPN Islanders coach got hit with a puck on the bench. You watch what the NHL does now. Next season theyre gonna force all teams put up glass on the bench as well. Just like NHL puts up Nets to protect the fans because that stupid girl got struck by a puck.

I really hope last night's game does not set the tone for the entire Caps-Penguins series.  It seems like the Caps getting tired and not playing as well is their downfall every second round and I do not want that to be repeated here.  Yes we won and all, but I don't want us to slow down and let the Penguins take us out here.

Happy Oshie Day Everyone!

He played out of his mind last night.  Every time he touched the puck he was a force.  We need the supporting cast to keep stepping it up.

Yes, but I thought the Penguins looked gassed in OT.  They didn't have much to offer in the extra period.  I think we can out endure the Penguins considering the speed and energy that the Penguins exert from the get-go.

But you could definitely see the Penguins explosive nature last night.  We could have just as easily lost in regulation.

I think we were fortunate to win on a night where everyone other than Oshie did not bring their A game. Huge mistakes in the defensive zone led directly to two of the pens goals. Can't afford that moving forward.

To me the Caps seemed tight, not tired and I think we'll see a lot more jump out of them tomorrow night.
