[News] How Rams' Trade For No. 1 Pick Helps Ravens' Draft

You've got no idea if Bosa can do anything at an elite level in the NFL. People just assume he can drop into coverage, but if you read reports on him it says he actually struggles in that department and he's got a hitch in his get along when he tries to change directions, which is exactly what you do in coverage.

I don't know that if I am picking a top 10 pick that I want it to be a guy I have to put into schemes and manipulate my entire defense in order for it to benefit him. I want a guy that can already come into my system and be a 3 down player.

I mean if the player grades out at the best at his position multiple years in a row and is praised by scouts for that specific talent, such as being a run stopper, then I can very easily debate that. Ask Chip Kelly about schemes and drafting players depending on their fit in a scheme. Obviously you hope that a talent such as Bosa would find his place at OLB or even DE, but I wouldn't pass on him because he doesn't seem like a logical fit. Smart coordinators will utilize great players.

With the Rams taking a QB at pick #1 even if Cle doesn't take a QB we get one of the top 5 field players at #6. My preference is: 1. Ramsey
2. Buckner 3. Jack 4. Bosa 5. Tunsil. Any one of these players should be a day 1 starter and pro-bowl bound. From Ramsey to Bosa if they are on the board take them. If Tunsil is the one left at our pick , then I'd consider a trade down. The Giants at #10 might very trade with us -they need an OT. I'd ask for a 2nd and 3rd in addition to pick #10. At that point Hargreaves and the next wave of DE/OLBs are still on the board. and now we have picks #36, #44 #70 and #80. The tough call is do we pass on Tunsil, is he the next JO or will Monroe kick it in gear and give us a good year or next couple of years. The Ravens are in a good position with the #6 pick.

I mean Tunsil is the best prospect in this draft to most analysts and scouts. I would never pass him up. Since JO has left, the blind side has had a revolving door of solid, yet inconsistent talent. With Joe coming back from a huge injury and just received a contract, if Tunsil is there, we don't even blink an eye when we select him. My board of who I want as of now looks like: 1.) Tunsil, 2.) Ramsey, 3.) Jack, 4.) Bosa, 5.) Hargreaves, 6.) Elliot, 7.) Lawson, 8.) Buckner.....

My hunch: Rams- Wentz / Browns: Goff / Chargers: Tunsil / Dallas: Elliot / Jags: Jack / Ravens: Ramsey

I"ve wondered about Jerry Jones taking Eliott...I've also figured Dallas would take Bosa or Buckner, but in either scenario Jags would take Ramsey or Jack, leaving us with the other...which I would be happy with either one, or Bosa if he was still there...Personally, i'd probably take Hargreaves over Buckner if it came to that decision.

If Dallas take Elliott then Ramsey will fall to the Ravens. If Chargers take Ramsey then Tunsil will fall to the Ravens. This is possible guys very possible we get either of this two. Myles Jack we be awesome to but Jaguars just about got him for sure.

Not only does this trade mean that a QB will go first, but likely 1st & 2nd too. I'm sure the Rams talked to Cleveland to avoid spending extra picks, but couldn't make a deal because Browns wanted the top QB too. Even with RG3 they're still QB needy and some think they're targeting Wentz (a Flacco-esque prospect).

So now my question is: Will they draft a QB (likely Goff), use their pick Tunsil as they need line help or trade away?

If Browns go QB too, Tunsil falls to San Diego who needs him.

Dallas would likely take Ramsey or Bosa. Leaning toward Ramsey here.

The Jags are linked to Myles Jack but could take either Ramsey or Bosa as well.

Ravens then have a shot at possibly Ramsey, Bosa and Jack. If Jack goes at #5 then I'm super psyched over landing either Ramsey or Bosa. If Jags don't take Jack, Ravens have a choice of Jack or Buckner either of which I'm OK with. Leaning toward Buckner still, in which case little changes from most mocks out there now.

Even if 2 qbs go in the top 5 neither Tunsil or Ramsey will make it to #6. It does increase our chances of drafting Jack which was looking improbable yesterday.

Thinking maybe Rams look for new GM and head coach next season. That is if Fisher was included in this fiasco, which I assume he would have been. If not next season then soon after. Sheesh, still can't believe it.

This was really good news we can either stay where we are and take the best player or "if" qb slips to 6 the 49ers or Eagles will be lurkin in the weeds. Speakin of weed Les Snead and Jeff Fisher are on it. You trade away a multitude of picks to make a splash in the LA market for a qb prospect in Wentz or Goff that assimilate to be Christian Ponder type of prospects. I enjoy watching these teams over spend for these middle of the road qb prospects. This being said thank you God for this blessin we are gonna receive at #6 because someone likes to overpay for qb potential!

There are so many new possible scenarios now that im getting confused, all I know is that we need to stay put at 6 because regardless of what happens before we pick, we will have the chance to get either Bosa, Buckner, Jack, Hargreaves, or Elliott and those are all great players. The only 2 players I definitely see being gone by #6 is Ramsey and Tunsil.

Dumbest trade ever....Titans get the their 1st two 2nd rounders and a 3rd, and next years 1st and 2nd round.....Titans should be charged for stealing....Sorry no player in this years draft has that kind of star power to give up so much....

Ouch, that's gonna hurt them for years

As much as it helps us, I have to agree the Rams are dumb as hell for trading all these picks.

Based off what I've read recently Stanley seems to be moving up the draft boards and Tunsil taking a slight move down.

If you compare these reviews I think you will find one thing with Tunsil that will make the Ravens think twice:

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/2005667/ronnie-stanley

Personally, seeing as how we have Monroe, I think Stanley would be a wise choice to be groomed.

If Rams take Wentz, then maybe Browns are not sold on Goff so they take a defensive player. There's no guarantee 2 QBs are taken. I don't want Myles Jack or Smith. Jack only has one sack in 3 years of college football so why should Ravens take him at #6 when they already have Mosley. Ravens can get a fast ILB 3rd or 4th round to help in coverage. We need pass rushers, CBs, and another OT. There will be options at number 6 so Ravens should fill a need with a player in the top 10.

Drafting Tunsil would be the dumbest idea since Kyle Boller. We don't need to replace an injury prone LT with an injury prone LT.

'Needs to eliminate the false start penalties and stay focused through the whistle.'  If that's the case, then another Michael Ore, we don't need.

So...I watched a couple Deforest Buckner videos. It was clips of the snaps he played against Michigan State, and also against Ohio State. Personally I saw potential, but I did not see a top tier 1st round pick. He looked like a 4th rounder, maybe 3rd. He drew double teams, but barely registered any tackles. Buckner was dominated by Michigan tackle Jack Conklin. Also...I question Buckner's stamina. He looked exhausted...and at times appeared to take off a few plays. NOT Raven football.

If Deforest Buckner is the "best player on the board" at 6, I hope we trade back.

Alright my child, get ready for enlightenment,

Tunsil obviously is the best prospect and looks to be the best LT coming out since Tyron Smith, but more highly regarded coming out. He is more than ready and he held his own in the SEC against highly touted pass rushers. He literally only gave up 2 sacks in 29 career starts and his nickname is the eraser. C'mon, pretty awesome. He also showed improvement in run blocking and I foresee with his work ethic that he will be elite in that category soon enough.

Bosa is as good as advertised. His sack production dipped this year, but his impact didn't according to PFF. He is an elite defender that can set the edge and stonewall the run game. He might not have the explosiveness of a Von Miller Or Mack, but he has all of the other traits that translate to big success in the NFL, which are great hand abilities to disengage blockers, natural lean to obtain constant leverage, high motor so that he can gas out lineman, and instincts that allow him to outsmart his opponents and find ways into the back field.

Jack when healthy could do it all even though he was slightly lighter than most pro teams would like, but he has since bulked up a little. He is designed to be a elite coverage ILB that can also show flashes in the run game and arrive with surprising pop and wrapping up abilities. His IQ is off the charts as well and he anticipates plays often. Very high ceiling, but worst case is he either becomes a tremendous safety or is designated as a coverage ILB that allows Mosley to play to his strengths as a run defender and blitzer.

Ramsey v. Hargreaves is the most interesting as coming out VH3 is obviously a much more polished CB and has sick ball skills and anticipation to cause turnovers at the next level. He had a few bad games, such as against Alabama, but he has also held his own against other great talents, such as Treadwell. All corners have off days against elite or very good WRs, just look at Chris Harris v. AB, Sherman v. Hilton, Norman v. Julio, etc. Hargreaves high at times might cost him, but his technique and smarts will keep him from ever being a liability, especially since both of our safeties have great coverage abilities to back him up if teams wanted to go over the top often, but even still, Hargreaves has great anticipation that allows him to contest those catches. Ramsey is a converted Safety to CB, but is similar to Patrick Peterson in so many ways. His All-American athleticism keeps him in almost every play and combined with his instincts, he always finds a way to be around the ball. His versatility could present absolute nightmares for coordinators if he doesn't pan out as a strict CB, but with experience and coaching of his technique, Ramsey has the highest ceiling of almost any prospect. I think Hargreaves is deserving of #6 because he will be good, but Ramsey is worth the slight gamble as the best outcome is he joins the elite corner category and our secondary becomes our strength, or he becomes a hybrid that allows Pees to get extra creative and cause confusion at the line, especially since Ramsey is a very good tackler at the line and can also blitz the QB better than any DB in this class.

Okay so hopefully you are a little bit more optimistic like the rest of us now!

Great comments on these players. Good comparison between Hargreaves and Ramsey. Exactly how I see it too. I'm hoping for Jack but wish we knew more about his knee and don't see the Ravens taking a risk on him if his knee's not 100%. I see all the positives surrounding Bosa but for some reason I have a bad feeling about him. I hope it's Ramsey, Tunsil or Jack in that order

I envision a scenario where Wentz is taken by Rams and Goff is still available at 6 and someone desperate to get ahead of the 49ers (probably the Eagles) to draft Goff approaches the Ravens about a trade. I think we're in good shape whether or not Wentz and Goff are taken in the top five.

You can debate it all you want, it doesn't mean those scouts are right. You also have to remember that these analyses come based off of college level talent and not pro level talent. He might be great at defending the run in college, but when he gets into the NFL where everyone is bigger, stronger, faster, he might not be as stout. Not only that, but we don't need a run stuffing OLB, we need a pass rusher. Our problem has also been coverage from our line backing crew and that is one of the weaknesses of Bosa. If you are going to trumpet what he does well and pay attention to that analysis, then you should put just as much stock into the negatives. What follows is a quip from NFL.COM:

" Bosa has a few more flaws than some may be willing to admit and his upside might be good rather than great, but his traits and growth potential as a player make him a safe selection. Bosa might be at his best with a defensive coordinator willing to move him around the field."

Bosa is too small to play DE in our scheme. He's not strong enough to play DE in our scheme either. So his versatility would only come at both OLB spots and in our defense they are our rushers. There is some debate about whether he'll be great. He doesn't have elite speed, doesn't have elite strength, has issues in coverage, doesn't fit our scheme, and will need to be "disguised" in order to get the most out of him. Oh, did I mention he has some character issues? No thanks.

Which them? The first two or the latter?

I've commented on so many different forums and sites I had to check what I said lol.

My feelings on Wentz and Goff are basically how the draft process elevates QBs to justify bad teams drafting a potential "franchise QB". Before the senior bowl, I had only heard of Wentz twice ( all year ) and that was Mel Kiper listing him as top 5 senior QB with late 2nd , early third round grade ( wasn't seeing him on any mock drafts back in October-January ). During the season Paxton lynch was the talk of the town because no one was ever truly into Goff for whatever reason.

Now fast forward, senior bowl and combine completed and all these evaluators suddenly find him to be a great pick, speak as if he's a can't miss no brainer type pick.

I've always liked the draft process but sometimes it's silly, like a few years ago when Teddy Bridgewater pro day hurt his "stock".

Wentz has every trait you want in a Franchise QB. His comparison is Andrew Luck. His recognition was minimal early in the process because the media and evaluators have a bias to big schools and were unaware of what he was doing at North Dakota St. Teams are drooling over Wentz when they watch the film and look at the potential. That is why this move happened way before the draft. Cleveland has to feel snubbed if they assumed they had their guy. I would hope Tennessee shopped the pick to Cleveland before they jumped back to 15.
