Pitta chooses to return, agrees to new incentive-laden deal

Don't forget the plan to convert Waller to a TE.  He needs to be included in the mix as well.

This is what I was concerned about. They supposedly will try Waller at TE because the competition is easier. However, with Pitta, Watson, Maxx, Crockett, and Boyle (after 10-game susp.) all ahead of him on the depth chart, a roster spot at TE actually seems less-likely than at WR.

It's a shame because I think Waller could be a big mismatch at TE, kind of like Ladarius Green. He would probably struggle at blocking, but he would be a good weapon in the passing game.

Any specific details on the restructured deal?

If Pitta can get back close to his old self we are absolutely stacked at TE. I think it would be awesome to put all 4 of them on the field at once, just to see what happens.

Waller is actually a very good blocker coming from Georgia tech's option offense.

Though you could say lineman and linebackers are much harder to block than corners

Getting Pitta back would be a huge deal, but as a fan of his, I'm not sure that's a good idea. Last time he injured his hip, no one even touched him. Maybe, he should just take the money and retire.

I think we all have mixed feelings about this because we all want what's best for Dennis. Of course, the decision to compete for a roster spot or retire is up to him but he should rely heavily on his doctor's advice. I can't believe his doctor would give him his medical consent unless he thought Dennis was fully recovered this time. Obviously, there are no guarantees that he won't go down again but it's his choice if the FO is confident he can make a healthy comeback and play at a high level. That being said, I think he would wind up being a role player who would be more of a hybrid WR/TE than a blocking TE. Realistically, I would expect him to be a #3 TE on the depth chart at the start of the season at best behind Watson and Gillmore. Good luck, Dennis, and stay healthy!!

Ya know I don't even know what one would do to strengthen a hip.  Drink lots of milk to strengthen the bone ?  Strong leg and butt muscles ?

I am not gonna lie.  I am nervous for the guy.

Regarding the crowded TE depth chart, last we heard about Crockett Gillmore wasn't his availability up in the air for training camp/week 1? He had multiple surgeries, back and shoulder issues so he may not be a full go anyways.

He ended up only needing 1 surgery and is expected for training camp now.

Pitta is showing the intent to try to return, but he ain't back yet.  Let's see if he makes it back on the roster before planning for the TE "supersquad".

Dennis is one of my favorite players and I admire his resolve, but I have to say that it would be tough watching him play again.  Kind of like watching a dog trying to cross a busy highway. scary stuff.

I tell you what, this is a win win. We now get more cap for any pre-draft day trades lol We also get our beloved Pitta potentially back. If he retires and can't make it back to the field, the new deal helps. But if he makes it and plays, him and Watson can help groom Maxx and Gilmore, in addition to sweet RZ packages where we get three of them on the field at a time and make it hard for defenses. Win Win Win

He really didn't look like a good blocker at GT. Coming from a triple-option offense doesn't intrinsically make you a good blocker.

Ill be anxious when I watch him play. That non-contact injury was so brutal to watch. If I see him go down all by himself again I'll be pissed at him. I, too, had moved on from the thought of him returning and I'm not sure who I want taking the snaps now. I hope he balls out and avoids injuries! Everyone is coming back from injuries, its amazing...... Go Ravens.

In as much as we can all speculate what is best for Pitta, it is a decision he and his family must make.  When you've had the opportunity to do the thing that you love, when it is taken away it leaves an very empty void.  That void can lead to resentment in all aspects of one's life, both professionally and personally...and potentially cause just as much damage as the actual injury itself.  I am sure Pitta and his wife have weighed the pros and cons and the consequences of a return to football.  If I'm not mistaken she is a nurse too, so I'm sure she is aware of the consequences.

Whether Pitta actually sees the field or not only time will tell.  But I admire him for his persistence, his resilience, his passion for the game and being the ultimate team player in terms of putting the team first before himself with his restructure.   I can't think of a recent Raven I have more respect for.   I stand behind him whatever happens.

Winner, winner, chicken dinner

Lol, yeah. It makes sense for both parties, honestly. Pitta probably wouldn't make a ton on the open market, and the Ravens probably don't want to pay a guy to play elsewhere. Next year may be a different story since he will be much more at risk since his dead money will be less than his base.

I wouldn't say we're counting on him of course, but the cuts of Ford and Spears seemingly indicate that we're on board with giving him a chance as well.

Would have been too crowded for them even without Pitta.

For sure, but I think they officially got rid of the pure insurance policies. No coincidence that these moves happened after Pitta's decision. Not that they had a chance anyways, though.

Our TE situation is a mess, our starter is made of glass, his backup is a drug cheat, we signed a 36 year old, Pitta has a busted hip and we converted a receiver. Am I missing anything?

Where is Williams in this? Also I wouldn't say Gilmore is made of glass (I'm assuming that's who you are talking about).

Oh yes Williams, he's probably going to be our starter by next season.

Not sure how this turns out. Can't deny his talent and the hook up he and Flacco  have. I think it was bordering on special before his injury.

The pass in the Mile High Miracle game backed up deep in Denver territory was a Flacco-Pitta masterpiece.

That TD was cold blooded, like a Mark Hunt walkoff KO... any MMA fans in the house?

It's crazy seeing this guy busting his Tail to play football again while degenerates like Josh Gordon just throw it all away. Really shows you who actually loves the game.

anyway, I don't see a point to Pitta's return, he'll almost certainly get injuries again and our TE position is overflowing in talent, we already have 3 starting caliber TE's.

Why are we looking at other teams degenerates when we have one in our house (Boyle)?

Pitta will be helpful if healthy, especially because our problem child cant stop using enhancers.
