Pitta chooses to return, agrees to new incentive-laden deal

I think we'd likely request a pay cut over cutting him and then re-signing him. That rarely ever results in the player returning.

I'll reply to you here since this topic probably deserves its own thread.

If you were Pitta would you agree to a (likely drastic) pay-cut? Some players do it if they know they won't make even a similar amount of the open market. Could be the case for him but I'm not sure. We don't know the specifics of what the Ravens would be looking for, of course. If he refuses, that's when the cut comes.

I've seen some people suggesting the team might ask for pay cut where he can earn the money back based on incentives, which I think would be the way to go. My question becomes if he comes back who would be the odd man out at TE?

If he wants to stay with the Ravens, he'll probably have to slash that base salary in half, if not down to $1M with heavy incentives.

See ya, what happens to the TE depth chart if they keep him?

Watson, Gilmore, Williams, Pitta, Boyle, etc

Pitta is the odd man out and his salary is too, maybe find a team that will throw a late round pick for him? Otherwise cut him June 1st designation.

Jeff Zerbiec just reported that Pitta and the Ravens agreed to a restructure. I'm guessing it's something they already had in place in case that he decided to come back.

I'd like us to keep Pitta with him taking a pay cut. Watson, William, Gillmore, and Pitta is a lethal and deep TE core. Obviously, there's some ifs health wise, but the variety talent is there.

Plus it would only save us money if he would resign for less than $600k. His dead money is $6.6 mill if cut, cap hits currently $7.2m.

A post June 1st release would change that but then we're taking on dead money next year too.

---

On the bright side... if Pitta does play and is somewhat himself, our TE depth is by far the best in the league. Only better group overall is NE's.

Yeah a pay cut would make a lot of sense for Pitta at this point. Would be great to see him come back but I am not holding out much hope at this point

Happy to hear this, but not sure if my heart cab handle watching him go down again. Would be amazing if he's able to get back to his old self and avoid injury.

Like others, I imagine the restructure makes a lot of this year's money incentive-based.

From Hensley: Tight end Dennis Pitta has agreed to a restructured deal with the Ravens, according to a league source. Pitta... es.pn/1TP8fMy

If you must. I say let bygones stay bygones. Too dangerous to play in this league not playing at 100%. Pitta will never be what he was. Go live the rest of your life son. The Ravens need that "Cap Hit", that you represent, crossed off!

It's crazy seeing this guy busting his Tail to play football again while degenerates like Josh Gordon just throw it all away. Really shows you who actually loves the game.

anyway, I don't see a point to Pitta's return, he'll almost certainly get injuries again and our TE position is overflowing in talent, we already have 3 starting caliber TE's.

Guessing Pitta will hold down the fort while Boyle serves his Suspension.

We now have 4 TEs all who better be on the 53 man roster(if healthy).  I hope this translates into RZ packages, where we almost always seem to struggle.  These guys on the outside, with Smith in the slot will create problems.

Getting Pitta back would be a huge deal, but as a fan of his, I'm not sure that's a good idea. Last time he injured his hip, no one even touched him. Maybe, he should just take the money and retire.

Interested to see how big the pay cut is. Obviously can be earned back with hefty incentives, but just want to see just how much the Ravens are willing to pay him to "take a chance" that he ever plays again.

I would suspect the pay cut would have to be at least $2-3M.

He has been away from football for 2 years, he will have to get acclimated to playing again and who does he take snaps from?

I must be bad, cause

all I see are the possibilities, formations

lets get ZEEK , devontae booker  or my favorite

KEITH MARSHALL  (UGA)

all jokes aside, I trust the FO , and I do hope the best for Pitta

This is like a movie where everyone thinks a guy dies and his wife moves on and falls in love with his best friend and then the guy comes back and it's all awkward...

Happy to hear but we clearly moved on these past years by adding an abundance of talent at the position. Realistically has no place on the roster with Gilmore, Watson, Maxx and Boyle. Unless we wanna keep 5 but I'm not sure what his role would be...Just look at the flowers, Dennis. ?

Don't forget the plan to convert Waller to a TE.  He needs to be included in the mix as well.

Crowded TE group. Boyle's suspended so count him out of the initial roster numbers. By the time he is ready to return, we will (unfortunately) probably have a roster spot for him due to injuries. Knock on wood.
