Charles Tapper - DE - Oklahoma

He's the guy who ran down Amari Cooper from behind at the 14 Sugar Bowl. I was watching in Norleans with hundreds of Bama fans, their cheering turned to stunned silence.

Tapper has sky high potential but a loooooong way to reach any of it.

Under Clarence Brooks though... I like the odds. Baltimore kid raised a ravens fan, he would lay it all out there for this team. Freak athlete with high motor and desire, he just needs a lot of coaching on his hands and feet. He doesn't appear to be a dumb kid either, I think with a great DL coach he becomes something seriously special. I like him in the 4th for us

He would be a guy we would target as a 4th rd pick. He might not last that long, but he is still raw and needs a few years to develop. Our first three picks are guys we need now to start or be in the rotation, so I wouldn't take him at 70. But he has the gifts of speed, high motor and size, so he just needs a smooth transition while learning better technique.

I like him quite a bit but I'm not sure if I'd take him. I say that for a few reasons. First and foremost, I've heard some say he could go early like second round early. That leads me to my second of all, which is that I can't justify taking him earlier than the fourth because he'll need some work but the potential is there.

I'd be okay with taking Tapper in the 3rd because we have a guy like Clarence Brooks around to coach him up. It's not quite as a big of a risk for the Ravens to take a DL based on potential as it is for some other teams.

I don't think he would play DL but DE/OLB.

Well, he would be on the line in the nickle package. And I think he could play DE in the 3-4 on passing downs.

I don't think we would use him there, though. Maybe he plays the McPhee role, I guess, but I see us trying to use him in that edge pass rusher role behind Suggs & Dumervil,

I think tapper would be a 3/5tech hybrid for us. Same role I think buckner or butler or rankins would play if we were to end up with any of them

I don't think so. I think if anything we'd have him lose a little bit of weight to play edge here. He may not even have to lose weight but I do think it'll help him. He'd likely be a prime candidate to play the McPhee role.

I agree he should lean out and go through flexibility training.  But he will not last til round4.  If ravens want him it would have to be round3 and I'm not sure if he is the best player there. It would be cool if Boyd is available early round3. But he is likely round2. But if he is there round inwouldvdraftbhimnin .02 seconds. Same with trapper round4. But in a weak edge rusher class Tapper is  round2-3

I think as it stands right now that's where he projects. But he may need to slim down a bit because he does seem a bit musclebound lol, if he were to slim down then I think he does move to edge because he's already right on that cusp at 270. He is 270 right?

That combine profile above lists him at 271, so yeah.

I didn't even see that I was going off the top of my head lol. So yeah he is probably maxed out and maybe he will lean out and loosen up some and play OLB.

I think that would be the best thing for him. He is pretty fast even at that weight, so I can't imagine what he could do if he lost weight and leaned out some and got even more explosive. I like him as a DPR day one, but I think he will not have a great immediate impact but could pay long-term dividends. I just don't know where his stock is. He seems like a guy the Seahawks would take earlier than you'd like and he goes before you can get him where you value him. That's how I see it. I really do like him, though, FWIW. I just think that he will be taken before we can get him. Then again, I wouldn't be at all surprised if he's our Crockett Gillmore.

He has very poor instincts and technique but I think the tape makes him look worse than he is, focusing on gap control at 3 and 5 technique is a waste of his physical talents, instead of penetrating upfield he's concerned with engaging his blocker and sitting in his gap.

Heres the tackle on Cooper, it's almost comical.

He could be better than some of our recent DBs...
