[News] Ravens Could Target Pass Rushers After First Round

23 posts in this topic

I've seen us linked to Ochi in several mock drafts...Stony Brook is just not up there as far as competition though. Could be good developmental player, but what round would you take him? I've seen him all over the board in different rounds.

We'll take a couple of really good pass rushers in this draft. Not one but 2, including an interior pass rusher prospect. I also see us taking a couple of O-line prospects (a guard and tackle), a couple of DBs and 1 WR prospect with our first 7 picks.

Anyone has any thoughts on Shawn Oakman? I know he has not performed as well as believed but I wonder if in the right system he could dominate. Maybe as a 3rd down pass rusher?

Baylor DE Shawn Oakman is the subject of a rape investigation.
The alleged incident took place Sunday morning. The victim had to be hospitalized, and reported the incident immediately. Police took evidence from Oakman's apartment on Sunday afternoon. Oakman has admitted to having sex with the accuser, but insists it was consensual. Oakman is considered a day-three prospect. He has a history of off-the-field issues, and was kicked off Bill O'Brien's Penn State team in 2012. Apr 7 - 9:24 PM

Well RL52 was considered under sized, and Doom is undersized, but they both show you can make up for your size with heart and determination....Again the draft is a gamble as we all know, and no such thing as a elite layer coming to the pros IMO, that is something that is based on being one of the best at their position on a consistent basis.....You can only pick and hope.....

Shaq Lawson has been described as an edge setter due to avg pass rush ability and his nfl comp on nfl.com is Courtney Upshaw... sorry, but helllll noooooooo! Upshaw was a solid player but we don't need another him we need an upgrade, someone who with more pass rush ability. So I said all that to say if we trade down I hope he's not our option.

IMO a good option with one of the 4th rounders

Ramsey and Buckner may switch SD needs a Buckner too however, I think Ramsey is just too good when you lose Weddle.

I think at least one of those teams are trading out of their spot - so this all may be subject to change and that may be enough of a variable to help us land someone we expected to be gone????

You don't know what you are talking about. Lawson is not an average pass rusher . . . wow. Who are you listening to?

Yannick Ngakoue is 6'2" and 250 lbs. How is that undersized? That's ideal LB height/weight.

"Ideal" is 6'3" 265lb with long arms, but we're splitting hairs rushers that lack length can develop powerful dip and rip moves.

Heard it twice on path to the draft and I read it on his player profile on nfl.com. However Walterfootball.com describes him as a smooth pass-rusher and has some natural pass-rush ability for the pros, so I probably shouldn't have said I hope they don't pick him in a trade down scenario, but that Upshaw comparison scared me because before I read that I thought he had great pass-rush ability. Like I said Upshaw was a solid player but we need pass rusherers, not edge setters. Not saying that's what he is, just what I read.

I've seen that on NFL.com, but there comps are hilarious  on many occasions.  Shaq Lawson has many more moves than Courtney Upshaw ever had.  He's going to have a high upside at the next level.  I'd be fine with him if we traded back a couple spots.

All you need to do is watch his tape and you know he's much more than Upshaw.

This isn't a draft order.  Rather, it was how the players are currently ranked on the scouting index.

well if you would have watched Upshaws Alabama tape you would also come to the conclusion that he would be a great pass rusher. He has 16.5 sacks and 32.5 tackles for a loss in his last two years there. The comparison is being made because their athletic ability is at the same level.

I'm aware of they are comparing athletic ability, however Lawson has so many more pass rush moves than Upshaw ever did.  I hate these player comparisons when all they are taking into account is athletic ability.

If Spence is there when we pick in the 2nd round, I will be so amped. If he is, the Ravens better take him. I'm hoping we can get Jack in the 1st round. We need an ILB that can cover these TE. Over the last couple years I've been so tired of seeing Lewis and Smith, and even Mosely trailing a TE as he goes across the middle. Jack is fast enough to stay with them and big enough to come up and stuff gaps. We also need a CB and a OLB, so Spence in the 2nd would be awesome. Then you could go CB in the 3rd, and then get your backup OL, a WR, and some DL help in the 4th. When I make my mock roster, I have 7 open spots, I don't know how our 2 6th round picks our going to make it on this team, everything being even.
