Lost's Final Mock Draft

13 posts in this topic

Well. It's that time of the year. I'm sticking to my guns. I'm making this a tad more controversial this go around. Though some things will remain the same. Skoooo

Round One: Myles Jack MLB West Coast University of Virginia(UCLA)

As a member of the Myles Jack fanclub I have him once again top my mock draft,... He's honestly got the potential to be a very special player. And while I'm an advocate for defensive depth, we could use a star back there. That's what Jack looks to be. Mosley is already a star level player. A damn good one. But Jack has the potential to be a perennial all pro. I'd take him here any day of the week. Especially Sundays

Trade: Ravens trade back in the second with Chicago for an additional 5th rounder, and an additional undisclosed 2017 draft pick.

Round Two: Nick Martin OG/C Mideast Harvard(Notre Dame)

Hey, put your damn pitchforks and torches down.. Hear me out. Martin is a nasty one. Got a mean streak for DAYS. He's also surprisingly very intelligent as a player as his brother was. I don't think he'll be the elite player his bro was, but Harbaugh is always welcoming intelligent olinemen. And even if Jensen or Urschel turns into an elite guard, Martin might have what it takes to be the center of the future. We cannot win without having a good center. And yes. I'll take offensive line over WR.

Round Three: Sheldon Day, DE/DT Mideast Harvard(Notre Dame)

Well. Most of you saw this one coming. It probably will ruin your Day right... I'll let you in on a little secret. I like Z'Darius. I think he's going to be a good player. I think we are good on the dline as well. Which is why I'm okay with us taking Jack in the first. Jack does a lot for the team and I stand by it. But Day is WAYYY too good to pass up here. Day is a hell of a pass rusher, and very explosive. Very undersized yes, but very talented. I think he could fall here cause of his size or a complete and total lack of a position. But it's fine. He might not be a full time player, but he's a football player. And a pretty good one with sound technique and explosiveness. Go ahead. Make my day

Round Four: Kyle Murphy LT/RT, West Coast Harvard(Stanford)

At it again with the torches and pitchforks. Yes I'm taking a second olinemen. Let me explain why... We're in all likelihood keeping Monroe. Sorry we are. And while I think the rest of the line is okay, the team has a stupid little abomination of a player named James Hurst on the bench. He's freaking terrible to say the least, and that's being nice. Murphy, will never be a starter. He's clearly a smart guy, and hes got pretty decent technique.. But he needs to get stronger to be a swing. Either way, we don't really have a backup swing guy. (Hurst doesn't count).

Round Four: Jordan Jenkins OLB, Georiga(It's just Georiga. Get over it. )

Yet another player I took in the game. Jordan Jenkins is a jack of all trades, master of none. Good at pretty much everything, not great at everything though. We need an edge rusher to groom after Suggs. I think ZDS will be good, but we do need two of them. Jenkins might not ever be a star, but he's in all likelihood going to be a key role player in some defense. I think taking him is an excellent idea.

Round Four: Harlan Miller, CB, Southern Louisiana(I've got nothing guys. Sorry)

Who?. Oh wait, an off man corner specialist who also can play man to man relatively well with light feet? Sign me up. Why didn't you tell me about this sooner? Decent skills in coverage with the potential to develop. I'll take it.

Round Four: Kenyan Drake, RB, Ozzie Newsome's Recruit Fantasy (Alabama)

Bold Prediction: Kenyan Drake turns out to be a much better pro than Derrick Henry. He's faster, appears to have better vision, good hands. Not the most durable guy in the world but if he can somehow manage to stay healthy we might have ourselves a steal. I like Buck Allen, but I think Drake if healthy could turn into a very good NFL RB. I can see your outcry at us not taking a WR... Well.

Round Four: Kolby Listenbee WR, TCU(Texas version of a Christian School)

He does one thing well and he runs in a straight line, and yes he competes with Crockett Gillmore for having the best name in football so there's that.. NEXT

Round Five: Eric Striker, IDK/IDC, University of Oklahoma.... Wait there's a school down there? There's two?

STRIKER-Wolverine. Yeah. In round five I think he's worth the gamble. He's a utility player. Not big enough to play OLB/Edge, not rangy enough to be a full time safety. But for the love of god he's a football player. And we could use one of those. He's got problems. But you can tell he's going to be a high effort guy who's got some talent. I think he's worth the gamble cause at the very worst, we have a situational rusher, who can be a decent run defender.

Round Six: Nelson Spruce, Hippie Univeristy(Colorado Boulder)

Damnit. I have to take another WR. I think Spruce gets a bad rep. He's a future possesion WR. Not a bad thing. We could use one of those. Not the best athlete but not the worst. He's got good hands and is a good route runner.

Round Six: Anthony Zettel Penn State(The non-Ivy in Pennsylvania)

Sorry guys. My apperant connections in Pennsylvania threatened me if I didn't include someone in Pennsylvania. He's a project. But he's durable, and aggressive. He's got potential.

Well that about does it for that monstrosity. Bring on the hate!!!!!

Personally, I really like the idea of Martin in the 2nd. He definitely has the ability to become a franchise center.

Clearly, as everyone knows, im all good with the first pick.  I even don't mind the second pick, although I would of liked to get a better talent at Cb or passrusher.  I could live with this though.

This is a solid mock draft imo. I would prefer a defensive player with our second pick. If we do go with a center I would rather take Kelly from Alabama.

Overall a good mock. I suppose the dream of Jack COULD happen..... I've been a proponent of Nick Martin for awhile. He also has experience at guard.

I do think picking him there is a little rich and he  might not last till round three but there are some prospects in later rounds at center who I like.(Graham Glascgow, Austin Blythe).

I watch Striker and he just seems lost. The Ravens are going to draft a safety.

Nice mock.

I really believe we'll pick a CB in the first 3 rounds based on what happens on when the run begins. We aren't going to pass up on getting a top 7-8 CB this draft in my view.

PS: Eric DeCosta says so as well... I'm not naive and understand that what he says now isn't Gospel, but still makes a ton of sense.

Negged on account of reminding me of X-Men Origins Wolverine

X2 IIRC. Not Wolverine Origins. Only saw Origins once. Seen X2 at least 2 dozen times. Not because I thought it was good either.

Waiting that long for CB and OLB would make me so angry.

Actually I wouldn't be thrilled but I could see it happening. 2014(ironically our best draft in a long time), when our two biggest needs were clearly WR and Olinemen(hindsight corner as well. We took a gamble on Wagner and it worked) we took a MLB, DT, and Safety, and TE in the first three rounds. Call me crazy but the fact that we haven't pursued a corner makes me think that we're comfortable. We could have landed Boykin for slightly more than $840,000(I think we're idiots for passing him up fwiw). Ozzie will go BPA. And whether you'd like to admit it or not, those first three picks fill needs. I'm taking a different approach however.

For example, in regards to pass rusher. Our most consistent interior pressure(the most important kind) comes from Lawrence Guy. Davis has flashed and Jernigan is spotty. Now if Davis turns into a great player, fine. Worst case scenario we have an awesome rotation on the dline, and have a lot of creative pass rushing opportunities now. Brandon Williams isn't exactly a pass rusher first. You could put Carl Davis there at the nose, and Day in at end and wreck havoc that way. I could potentially see us going edge rusher in the second, but I think we're definently going dline at some point to help with the interior pressure. Now, when is in regards to how well We think ZDS is going to do in the future. If we like him, and his ceiling a lot(I did especially towards the end of the year), I think we're a tad more comfortable. I do agree we take an edge rusher at some point, but not necesarily ASAP.

If Jensen and Urschel  do beat out Martin then great. But that line needs to be solidified regardless. I hate the situation of the current oline. If we had KO, I wouldn't be this concerned. While I don't think KO is "the nastiest and strongest Mauler", I don't think Jensen and Urschel are adaquate replacements. Now I could be wrong, but I think bringing in some competition is a good idea. Worst that comes out of this is that Martin becomes our future center in all likelihood. Best case scenario. Well he'll never be his brother but he could be a very good player at either center or guard, as in maybe a pro bowler.

Do I need to justify taking Jack? Yes, we're good at developing our second ILBs historically, but Jack is a rare talent. He's more than a typical ILB. And with no Daryl Smith in the middle, he fills a need(if Arthur Brown was the real deal I honestly think he would've taken over for Smith by now). The biggest weakness on the defense other than the pass rush was the middle. CJ is not great in coverage(the fact that some have given up on him in this regard makes me pissed as I think there's a chance he improves), and Jack has mad skills. You could put him as a SS, you could put him as a slot CB. You have a mutlitude of options when it comes to him, He helps in coverage cause I think he'd help take the middle away.

Yes, I believe corner is an important need. But again. we could have gotten Boykin for beyond cheap had we really wanted to. Call me crazy, and that's a legit possibility. But maybe the team likes Will Davis?I don't see us scouring the market for one. Or getting a Donte Whitner so we can move Webb back to corner. I agree we take one, but maybe we're taking a Ricky Wagner style gamble?

Love me some Jack. Interesting pick at number 2 personally I would rather take a corner or pass rusher in the second but I do like martin and wouldn't be to upset over the pick. I also like Jordan Jenkins I really think he will have a solid career
