RayRocks' 3 Round Ravens Mock

16 posts in this topic

This is the first time I've put out anything more than a 1 round draft mock since my days back at Draft Breakdown with Will Spencer, but here it is:

Round 1, Pick 6:  Deforest Buckner DE Oregon

My current top 5 is (in order) Tunsil, Ramsey, Bosa, Buckner and Jack with VH3 at 6th, but the gap between Jack and VH3 is pretty far, in my mind.  I think if each of my top 5 guys is off the board when the Ravens pick, it means that a QB wasn't taken in the top 5 and we'll trade back with a team looking to jump SF for the QB of their choice.  I think that it's pretty unlikely that a QB won't go in the top 5, and I think of my top 5, the most likely to still be there are Buckner and Jack.

Buckner and Jack have equally high potential, but superstar pass-rushing defensive lineman are much more valuable than a superstar linebacker, in my opinion.

Round 2, Pick 36:  Kalamei Correa, OLB Boise State

Noah Spence has been the "hot name" thrown around here, but his tape really looks like the tape of a mid second-third rounder then it does of the "top 10 talent" that has been thrown around.  Personally, I think Spence may be either off our board completely or ranked lower than fellow pass rusher Kalamei Correa.  Correa is an interesting prospect because of how he was used as Boise, where he looked downright dominant at times as a rush linebacker, but he also dropped into coverage and even played some inside linebacker.  Personally, I have him as a top 30 talent.

Round 3, Pick 70:  Kyle Murphy, LT Stanford

One of the better mid-round left tackle prospects.  Could turn out to be a very good starter, but at least is an upgrade over our current backup, Hurst.

After these picks, I would guess that we'd focus our attention to Corner and ILB help somewhere in our 4 picks in the 4th round.

Thoughts?

Interesting one, I have a 3rd round grade on Correa but I may have to watch some more tape of him. I've always liked any combo with Buckner and a speed rusher to enjoy life behind him, that would be a nightmare for offensive lines.

I think most people consider Correa as a 3rd rounder or possibly 4th. He has all the physical tools, but needs to be coached up more before being regularly used among the starters.

If it's the 3rd round and correa and fackrell are both on the board still, who would you want?

I'd go with Correa. I think he's the better passrusher, he'll be better setting the edge against the run, has a higher ceiling, and has a better initial burst. Fackrell can be a pretty good rotational piece, but if Correa hits his ceiling, then he'll just be on a higher level.

I'm digging the 5-tech DE and OLB selections also but Fackrell and Correia perhaps could be gotten later....in this scenario, a top CB in the 2nd would be ideal, IMO.

Tough call, really. I feel like Correa has the highest ceiling, but Fackrell the highest floor. Correa can be a beast as an OLB, his burst is second to Spence's only imo, but he needs to refine his technique.

Fackrell seems stronger, and not bad in coverage, but watching his tape, a lot of his production came unblocked, his lower body seems very stiff, and that injury he had won't help.

I'll need to watch some more tape to decide.

Fackrell ticks our "STI" profile of speed, toughness and instincts, the latter is what Correa lacks... but Fackrell might not be a three down player at the NFL level with his build.

I'm just not sure how well Fackrell will do against NFL linemen and some of the better blocking TE's. It just seems like he might get manhandled by blockers at the next level unless others do a great job of letting him run free. That's something 3-4 OLBs don't get to do often.

I agree on Correa. You see a guy who is naturally athletic and fast with a nice explosion off the ball but who is sloppy with his technique and needs work as a pass rusher. He wasn't utilized well at Boise, so I don't blame him much but he also wasn't exceptionally effective when he did rush from the games I saw. Granted, I didn't see a ton of games but I recall being disappointed he didn't do better against the competition he faced.

Good point. Actually he got some sacks from delayed blitz from the ILB position, which obviously isn't great. But he nailed the combine, so it shows taht he has the tools to learn and develop into a solid pass rusher.

He's no favourite of mine, but I wouldn't be angry, as he could become a starter for us.

I actually wouldn't be surprised if we took Corrrea not as an OLB by an ILB. I think he may actually be better there and he would give us that pass rush and coverage.

Correa is getting first round pub all over the place. Even talk of the Steelers being in love with him.

I like Fackrell but I think in the end he's lacking athleticism and the strength to be taken that high. A really good smart football player though.

I definitely anticipate Correa to be taken in the top 50 - he's definitely raw, but I think if he was more refined in his technique he'd be getting looks at a top 20 prospect.  He's extremely athletically gifted and looks more natural to me as a rusher than Spence does.

Appreciate the feedback everyone :) This wasn't meant to be a "dream" mock, but one I'd be very happy with.

Great the answer to Hurst at backup tackle is his twin Kyle Murphy. Who plays with about as much power is an anorexic waterboy. No secret I'm not a fan of Bustner.I like Correa but he is likely drafted round1.
