[News] Where Would Joey Bosa Fit In Ravens Defense?

28 posts in this topic

The Cowboys run a 4-3 defense. The Cowboys have Nobody at DE (Hardy a FA and Gregory suspended). It's almost a lock that they take Bosa at #4 if he's there.

I don't think the Ravens will draft him because of off field issues. Walter Football reported teams were concerned about him and partying and he was suspended the first game of the season reportedly for refusing to take a drug test. After making the investment in Will HIll, Nick Boyle, Asa Jackson etc... why would they be willing to go down that road again. I believe the people the Ravens have targeted for pick 6 are Tunsil, Ramsey, Jack, Hargreaves and Buckner. That leaves the Ravens to drop back if they want a pass rusher but next person in line is Noah Spence or Nkemdiche who have more issues than Bosa. Bad year to want a pass rusher who can pass a drug test.

Bosa is a beast, the fact he'll be available at 6 is only because the media is coming out lukewarm on him. If he makes it to us it will be a steal.

When will the Ravens be hiring you to be their new GM? Just wondering.

My draft pick preference will be in this order depending on availability: Ramsey, Buckner, Jack, VH3, Elliott and Bosa in that order. My gut tells me it will be Buckner who'll be the highest rated available player when we are on the clock.

Who has "concerns"? Have those with "concerns" even watched this guy? He is a beast with a high motor. The Ravens should thank their lucky stars if he is still around when they pick and Newsome better not screw this up as he has since 2009. Not since Ray Lewis has anyone come close to this?

I like your thoughts. My only change would be to put Bosa in front of Jack which makes Elliott 6th. Would Tunsil be a better 6th choice? Either of those two would help the run game. All of these players are pro-bowl capable/probable. Combine with our FA signings - the 3 W's and the hope that SSS and Perriman can bolster the passing game. the outlook is good. I also anticipate our draft picks in rounds 2-4 (another 5 players topping out at pick #134) will add dpeth and strength to the Ravens. How do we miss getting to the playoffs [assuming we're relatively injury free] Go Ravens!! and Go Orioles!!

Unfortunately you're probably correct. Not only that but the Chargers will probably take Buckner with the third pick.

Oh if Tunsil falls, the Ravens will cartwheel their choice to the NFL desk I promise. The only likelihood of that happening is the Titans select Ramsey or trade back their pick to the Niners or Eagles who will then take a QB. Cleveland needs to take a QB too. Then if the Chargers pass on Tunsil to go Ramsey, then I see Tunsil making it to us. Plausible scenario but unlikely to happen. How can we be so lucky? Tunsil in my view is the best player in the draft and will be anchoring Flacco's blind side till Flacco retires.

Tunsil would be the only guy i'd trade up in this draft for, but no, him and Ramsey will be gone before we can get them...

I still think there is no way they arent the 1-2 in any order....

I think that there is a 0% chance that Ramsey or Tunsil are there at #6.  More likely, will be a choice between Buckner, Bosa, and Jack.

I don't think the Ravens should select Bosa at #6 because he simply doesn't fit our scheme. I don't believe in forcing a guy to play outside of what he's comfortable with and has shown he can actually do in college. You can't take a chance on a guy like this that you are not sure 100% can drop in coverage with a 1st round pick this high in the draft.

They tried this a few years ago with Paul Kruger who supposedly "could" drop back into coverage. At the combine they are both of similar build, Bosa is about an inch taller and about 5lbs. heavier. They both benched the same and if you look at their pro day results they ran nearly identical 40 times. Bosa scores better in the shuttle and cone drills but his draft analysis states he's a bit slow footed in change of direction; which is exactly the thing you need in pass coverage. Kruger might have been able to cover in college, but he was a liability in the NFL. Kruger didn't start to make an impact until he added a bit more weight and switched to a DE.

If we ran a 4-3 I might be higher on him.

I used to think the same thing until I realized 3-4/4-3 base D has been replaced by nickel as NFLs base D (around 63% of D snaps last year were with 5 DBs). So, Bosa really wouldn't be too out of place in a 4-2-5 alignment,  playing DE edge, playing OLB when we do 3-4 looks, and kicking inside at DT for obvious passing downs. We,  like rest of NFL play multiple fronts and he is athletic enough to play all 3 downs. He can't cover downhill like von Miller (not many can for that matter) but then again we don't ask Suggs and other OLBs to so that except drop into zones and flatts 10-15% of time.. Plus, he brings physicality and a little nasty to his play which is a plus.. I think he would do well in our system...

Personally, I would be disappointed if we picked Bosa.

Why?

He is ehh IMO. I see a very good small DE in a 4-3 and a slow Hybrid in a 3-4. Not a fan of Jack either seems underwhelming in the trenches to me. Ramsey or Buckner I think fits us better.

Im not disagreeing with you but to Bosa's credit he much more athletic than Paul. Paul was one of the least athletic guys that I have ever seen playing in the NFL.. Awkward movements slow feet and limited pass rushing moves. To his credit though he does have one heck of a motor on him.

Agreed, Kruger had a tenacious motor

Why?

I'm just not sold on him being an elite defensive player in the NFL.

Of course if we draft Bosa, I hope he proves me wrong.

Buckner is a good player but I still don't see him as a Ngata or a Suh or Donald. He's good, real good but just not top 5 good.

We're picking #6 luckily!^_^

I would love Bosa and it will come down to whether or not Dallas covets him or Jack more I feel. For all of you anti-Bosa people, just look at his strength, technique, motor, and hand use, it is easy to state that he would make a difference in our pass rushing department.
At this point, our most realistic picks will between Jack, Hargreaves, and Bosa, maybe Buckner, but I find it odd we haven't met with him.

I guess the question is then, would Buckner actually be the better fit here? Lets say there were no trades made until we picked at #6 and Tunsil Goff Ramsey Elliott and Jack are off the board as Maurice Jones-Drew correctly predicted :) Only considering Buckner or Bosa, as Hargreaves and Stanley will allegedly both break their legs partying together the night before the draft and the only trade offer we got came from the Bears but Ozzie told them what they could do with it :) Who should we choose?
