best case is elam plays himself out of baltimore because we won't want the fifth year but he'll be too expensive for us to keep on the cheap because he's made too many plays. he's not shown enough in baltimore to get a second contract but my hope is that he plays well enough that we can get a comp pick in 2018

I am pretty sure you are right.
This will be a resume year for him.  He is playing for a contract, with someone else.

If Elam can make it past the cuts and get on the field at all this year he is going to be filling out his resume for the other 31 NFL teams with his play and so far it's a resume that's seriously lacking. I just don't see him here (any where in the NFL) much longer unless he can turn on some mental  switch to get him playing like an NFL safety.

The question is will he make it past the cuts? The only reason he will is because he's cheap and Ozzie will give the 1st rounder one more chance.

So Elam can start practicing in about 10 days. Think he will make it to the active roster?

I'd rather have him on 53 than Powers or Lewis. Lewis in particular.

It might depend on if they lose someone of greater importance between now and then, since the earliest he can return is week 9, and you never know who gets injured between now and then. On the other hand, if Weddle or Webb get IR'd for some reason, you can almost guarantee he makes the active roster.

I think it's safe to think he wouldn't be any worse than Kendrick Lewis.

Yeah, I was loving Elam's progress this year before he got hurt. I think he come's back and kicks some butt.

He looked good in preseason. Very unlucky with injuries this and last year.

Elam is just a frustrating player to watch. I'll never forget that play against Cleveland in 2015 when Taylor Gabriel caught that long-bomb and and fell to the ground and all Elam did was look at him and let him run for an extra 20 yards. I was like "GUAAGGGGHHHH, How on Earth!!!???" It was such an bone-headed move. Like, what are you doing????? What were you thinking???? That's all I could ask. Till this day, that tops the list of the worst and just odd plays I've seen in my last five years.

I don't see Elam being activated unless someone were to get hurt, in fact wasn't there a report saying that we're planning on cutting him?

I wonder if we were interested in Travis Frederick? We needed a C with Matt Birk out, I wonder what would have happened if he made it to us.

There wasn't a report on any plan of cutting Elam. Ravens just did not activate the 5th year from a rookie contract. He looked fast in preseason games and apparently had good training camp. Made few nice tackles during little time he spent on the field in preseason.

As far as Frederick goes, I think we were content with Birk's disciple. That's before the season started but it was too late then.

Doing the draft process that year, all the analysts was saying Frederick was mid second round pick or possibly early third round and that's why Dallas was kind of laughed at for taking him in 1st round without trading back.  ( now it's worked perfectly and he's been great for them )

Now every team has their own grading systems so I guess it would depend on if Ozzie and scouts had Frederick grades that highly or were they went the tv draft media grades in mid-second to early 3rd.

I have these crazy draft thoughts all the time like what if Dallas hadn't stole Dez Bryant

I can't never forget that draft when I was about to celebrate that we will get Dez Bryant then Dallas traded up and took him....What a miserable day for me...

Elam probably gets one more chance realistically. I'm thinking it's him or Carl Davis that gets reactivated, and the DBs have definitely struggled more than the DL has thus far.

Jerry Jones and Dez watched us win a SB.

All depends on his recovery timeline. Haven't heard anything about him thus far, so my guess as of now is that he's not close to returning.

I think there was a report of the team planning to cut him by Jamison Hensley. I think it may have came from Baltimore Beatdown or something. Anyways, we always hear about Elam preforming well in T.C and the off-season and we never see it pay off. I take anything said about him during the off-season with a grain of salt because it hasn't produced on the field.

I don't think Frederick was our guy, but I think we could have possibly have interest in him since we liked Arthur Brown a lot and wanted him here in the 2nd round. Maybe we looked at Frederick as a 1st. Who knows.

He had a bone chip removed, guessing should be good to go. He's not eligible to start practice until 9/14 and can't return until 11/1. Don't really see another candidate to return from IR.

At this time, yes, he's the leading candidate to return. The only question is what happens if a starting-caliber player suffers like an 8 week injury in week 6-7. Then it would be a tougher decision.

I think they gave his jersey number away already
