[News] 6 Questions For Ravens' Pre-Draft Press Conference

25 posts in this topic

I would love for one of these media guys to follow up on this. I had slowly seen Bosa falling down the mock drafts and ran across this on fan-sided "According to WalterFootball.com , “In speaking with sources at multiple teams, two of the players that teams suspect for…partying are defensive end Joey Bosa and running back Ezekiel Elliott."" Also, he missed the first game of the 2015 and Ohio State has been vague as to why but fan-sided said it was because he refused to take a drug test. Can not see Bosa or Elliott coming here after the loss of Hill this year and it is beginning to look like Bosa will be there when we pick.  http://thelandryhat.com/2016/04/02/dallas-cowboys-may-pass-joey-bosa/

Question: have any teams reached out to the Ravens about trading up to our spot under a certain circumstance? I'm speculating that teams who want Goff have been speaking with us, since we're just ahead of the 49ers.

Not convinced the 49ers are interested in Goff at all.

Has the look of them sticking with Kaepernick.

I don't know about that. It was the money part that kept them from letting Kap go. They don't want to pay money that he doesn't deserve. They were foolish in giving him a contract when he didn't do anything to deserve it anyway. He's been a liability ever since.

1. Its the Broncos who don't want to pay the money, not the 49ers.

2. There's also the distinct possibility that they see what everybody else sees... a garbage draft class for QBs and that having Kaepernick and Gabbert give them a better chance than having Goff.

3. Generally speaking, over a three year period, he actually played pretty decent football for a starting QB in a league that is struggling to find 32 of them.

Over a 45 regular season game stretch from 2012-2014, his numbers look like this:

60% comp pct, 221 total yards per game, 60 TDs, 32 turnovers. Not really that bad when you break it down.

Last year he was horrible, no doubt. But when you factor in those statistics and the fact that his team also won a lot of games, a deal like Kaepernick's looks like an absolute steal.

Its kind of hard to complain about a contract like is at this stage, particularly when you look around the league and see the deals being given out to guys like Bradford and Osweiler, who any possible way you slice it, have accomplished significantly less than Kaepernick has by any possible metric.

1. What would it take to trade the No. 6 pick? To be taken out and shot afterwards.
2. Will a quarterback go in the top five picks? Yes
3. Is left tackle an option in the first round? Yes if there is a special player
4. Is there a position they will definitely draft. Offensive Linebacker and Secondary (any position)
5. What positions have good depth for the later rounds? That's why you get paid the big bucks.
6. What players have visited? Good question!

I went to the site and I see " Ravens No. 1 Team Need
Two Cornerbacks" Does not say much for Webb and Smith does it?

Well it wouldn't say anything about Webb, since he's not a corner anymore.

Considering teams with good secondaries usually have 3-4 pretty good corners, it says that this particular website doesn't have a lot of faith in Shareece Wright and Kyle Arrington in those roles.

I think that at least 1, maybe 2 CB's will be taken by the Raven's in this draft, regardless of "best player available" claims.

So did I miss anything good during this conference?  I forgot to tune in.

It was an interesting conversation in general, but as to offering any insight it was your standard "liar's luncheon". lol  I am sure the website will put up the presser in full later today and a transcript.

IMHO we trade the first pick to the Eagles, who jump ahead of SF & Chip Kelly to nab their QB of choice. Pretty much a non brainer in my mind. We get their 8th overall and either other picks or a player. Moving 2 spots back and probably still landing our guy and paying less makes helluva sense.

* If not the Eagles, another team will anity up, no doubt in my mind.

I can't see the Eagles having any interest in first round QBs. They signed Bradford and Daniels, and they're both better options than was this draft is providing.

I think the demand for some of these QBs is going to be a lot lower than what most fans think. Teams really have been shying away from reaching for QBs in recent years (except for maybe Cleveland), and this is a very weak class for them. There's also maybe only 2-3 teams really looking to get one who have the power to get one, and Philly isn't one of them.

Funny that you say that, I just looked at the CBS Football site and they seem to almost concur with me. One writer believes Lynch will be taken by the Eagles, claiming that 3 Qb's could be drafted in the top 8 picks.

And you'll find another website or several who will say that the Eagles won't draft a QB at all the entire draft.

Best thing I can tell you... good luck explaining how a team uses the #8 draft pick on a QB who will 100% be a gameday inactive for his entire rookie season unless an injury happens, because that's precisely what happens.

$22M guaranteed locked into Bradford, and $7M in guarantees locked into their backup QB whom most people think they like better than Bradford AND several analysts believe he is better than every single QB in this draft class.

Knowing CBS' prior track record of not knowing practically anything about NFL contracts or even considering them when they do draft analysis, I feel pretty comfortable with my assessment over there's.

I still believe at least 2 Qb's will be gone by pick #8. It's just seems like the norm of the NFL. Needy teams reach for Qb's, whether they need them immediately or believe they can develop them for down the road.

It will all work out for the Ravens! Just watch and see :)

Completely class dependent, so its certainly not the norm.

Last year, you had Winston and Mariota go #1 and #2, and they're both considered much better prospects than any of the QBs in this class. No other first round QBs were taken.

2014 it was Bortles and then a trade back into round 1 at pick 32 to take Teddy Bridgewater, who again, most analysts think is a better prospect than most of the QBs in this class.

A better comparison might be 2013, where you really didn't have any quality QBs at the top of the draft, and the first QB off the board was EJ Manuel at #16. A reach no doubt, but I think that's a comparable level to this draft class.

In all reality, the 2011-12 drafts really killed a lot of this notion of teams must reach for a marginal QB in the first round out of need, because there were so many bad one's that teams realized its just not a good strategy.

I think the Browns take Wentz or Goff at #2, and then its a complete coin flip how far the other falls. My guess is you won't see another go until the teens.

Winston and Mariota certainly didn't disappoint. This year's class, with Wentz, Goff and Lynch looks pretty tight too.I think they all have borderline great skills and mental toughness. Cook from Mich State is a gritty player, who will probably go in the 2nd-3rd.  I see the Browns, almost definitely and possibly Dallas, selecting a Qb in the first. Therefore, the 49ers would be next, with Eagles and Rams looking on. Thus, a real fight for draft position could occur, leaving Baltimore in prime position to clean up!

Like I said, all depends on how the teams perceive things.

I'd rather have Kaepernick than any of the QBs in this draft right now, so for SF, I'm not touching one at #7. Philly drafting one makes zero sense whatsoever to me, and it would be laughable to me for Dallas to take a guy who won't play for 3-4 years.

I see Cleveland, Los Angeles, the Jets and Denver as the only teams, with the latter two not having the assets to move into the top 10 to get a guy like this class.
