[News] Justin Forsett, Terrance West Discuss Crowded Backfield Competition

13 posts in this topic

Its going to be a hard decision to only keep 3 out of these 5 (possibly 4), Forsett, West, Allen, Taliaferro, and Richardson

. If I had to guess, I would say Forsett, Allen, and Taliaferro make it.

If they keep a 4th RB, the deciding factor is who's the better blocker.

How's Richardson on returning punts?

Good Q. Never seen him do it myself. Forrest, West & Buck. Maybe another one not even on our roster. I think they are hoping Richardson makes it and shows he needs the NFL.

We need all the competition we can get at RB. No one has yet to stand-out as a great RB imo. Forsett is good; Buck Allen has promise; everyone else is meh. I would really like an elite talent to emerge from the 6 RBs we'll have on the roster (Forsett, Allen, West, Taliaferro, TRich, MaGee). And even with all of these guys on the roster, I still think we should consider drafting another RB if the value is good, especially one who can excel at catching passes.

/and pictures with those repulsive yellow pants need to be banned from the forum, seriously. Yuck

Wouldn't surprise me if Buck Allen becomes our primary back with Forsett taking a back seat. I think he will still get a good bit of carries, but Allen proved that he deserves the ball in his hands more often than not. Then I think its a toss up between Taliaferro and West. Taliaferro needs to prove he can stay healthy, because West will definitely push him for a roster spot.

I'm with you on the yellow pants. They just summarize how things went for us last season.

True but Allen coughed the ball up a lot which is something that Forsett doesn't do. Forsett vision and patience in the hole is awesome as well which is beyond me why he wasn't starting on someones roster. I see Forsett the primary back with Tal backing him yet again only because he's a big guy that can move the chains. They say the best man will be on the field but having to elusive backs at the top of depth charts doesn't make sense for our system and division. They all will still get carries I think to keep each other fresh but I think the lineup will be the same as last year.

The common thought is that if you don't have a clear cut starter it is bc you don't have anyone good enough to be a starter. I just think this is the exception in this case.... We know Forsett can play at a pro-bowl level... he did that in a Ravens uniform. We know that West can be a solid contributor and that Buck and be a solid back up. The unknowns really are Talifero and Trent Richardson. We don't yet know if an inspired Richardson can play in this league. We have reasons to believe he may but have little to prove it bc we simply have not seem him inspired and producing. Now that he is in shape and realizes that he may be running out of opportunities... it will be interesting. THen there is Talifero... we know he has talent and we know that going into his 3rd season that he should be comfortable in our system now! We like his power and we liked the improvement we saw from year 1 to year 2. That is what we do know. What we don't know with talifero is 1. How does he return from injury and 2. Can he stay healthy long enough to be a legit factor. IDK..... but with Forsett as the starter buck and TWest backing him up and Richardson and LT being x-factors (or at least short yardage backs) we are pretty stacked and potentially stacked enough to be a nightmare for opposing DC... or ... potentially have everyone fall short. JF... has had one good season. Buck... played well but not enough to make us think he could be a lead back... same as west. LT hasn't completed a season yet and we could be just another team where Richardson didn't cut it? Not sure but I really am feeling like it is the first and not the 2nd scenario. Competition breeds success and the competition should motivate at least one of them to be at their best... and the team will be better off as a result!

I think the GOLD pants are way better then the sqeelers bumble bee uniforms... I wouldn't have minded the gold pants as much if they would have been a different shade of yellow! LOL...
