[News] Late For Work 4/1: Ravens 7-Round Mock Draft

70 posts in this topic

Talk about immaturity there is a report on Baltimore Beatdown that says Joey Bosa would hold out if drafted by the Ravens because John Harbaugh's brother Jim coaches at Michigan and Joey played at Ohio State. Really? Please don't waste money on this guy. Other articles indicate he has reached his ceiling. Any one but Joey is fine with me. I have never liked John Elway for same reason.

Yeah, if you click on the article that baltimore beatdown references, it will take you to the infamous rick roll youtube video.

Not a fan of that mock at all. They are over valuing all 3 OLB, two of which are too short and slow for the position, while ignoring the need for an ILB. The guard from Boise at the top of the 4th is way too high for an injury proned not technically sound lineman. They seem to be undervaluing the CB Canday and OT Murphy a little bit. Not to mention how ridiculous selecting Henry at #36 would be.
Here's a better mock:

6. Myles Jack ILB UCLA
36. Jason Spriggs OT Indiana
70. Charles Tapper DE/OLB Oklahoma
104. Javon Hargrave DT/DE South Carolina State
130. D.J. White CB Georgia Tech
132. Spencer Drango OT/OG Baylor
134. Charone Peake WR Clemson

Only take Jack if Ramsey, Bosa, Buckner and Tunsil (in order) are gone in first 5. Other wise trade back to 10-15 range getting a 2 and 3 and pick from Hargreaves CB or Ragland ILB or Lawson DE/OLB
in 2nd Artie Burns CB In 3rd Scooby Wright ILB. Also like Joe Haeg OT in 4th

WalterFootball Mock way better then that mock.

Rnd 1 Buckner
Rnd 2 Henry
Rnd 3 CB
Round 4 Scooby Wright LBr
Drango OT
Scobert OLBR/DE

But heres a dream draft..
Rnd 1..Ramsey,Bosa,Jack.. other options..Buckner, Spence,Lawson
Rnd 2, CB Alexander, Eli Apple, K.Fuller, D.Henry RB, First round talent drops.. Dodd, Nkumdche, Spence etc..WR Doctson, M.Thoms
Round 3, Yannick Ngakoue, Jordan Jenkins, DE/OLBrs, OT Leraven Clark, OG Westerman. One of these picks..would be a steal to get JAYLON SMITH. Stash him for a yr
Round 4 Scooby Wright LBr
Pk 2 Scobert OLBr/DE
PK 3 Cyrus Jones
Pk 4

i personally am a fan of the derrick henry pick at #2. would love to have that jamal lewis type back and he fits the bill. he is an all around back that can catch as well. i like the group of backs we have right now but none of them are game changers imo. forsett is a ? coming off of an injury plus a sub par season. allen seems to be more suited as a change of pace type back and to spell relief. taliaffero will never stay healthy imo and west is a change of pace guy as well but i do agree we have more important needs to fill other than at rb. maybe we get lucky with trent richardson and he becomes a beast for us.

I like the OT Murphy and CB Canday in the 4th round if they were there. LB scooby wright might be a reach at pick #70 in the 3rd, but if he lasted til the 4th, i'd snag him.

I think you're right on all counts. But, then how does one (@crusader) figure  he chooses Baltimore to coach under Harbs vs Rex Ryan? After all it is still a people's business right?

To be perfectly honest with you, if Jaylon Smith falls to us in the 2nd, we would be remiss not to take him. That would be a huge missed opportunity to take a player that could change our defense... as it is stats say only 50% of second round picks become starters in 4 yrs. So, what if we missed on him. To me it is simply a risk reward thing.

They got me good too. It was bright and early and as usual I was groggy and dull. That news article had me seething in rage thinking of ways I could start a 'hate Bosa' campaign and hurt his prospects any way I could... poor fellow. Still might end up a Raven!

"He is on the Buffalo Bills' staff as the Assistant Defensive Backs coach, and he plans to keep his focus there for now" I'll NEVER understand why Ravens did not hire him as BAD as the Ravens secondary has been the last 3 years. Once you leave the Ravens DON'T ever come back under any circumstance or reason. There too conceited to be humble.

Did you not see the Harbs interview where he spoke about Reed. I don't believe there is too much congeniality there. Rex is willing to live with Reed's vagaries, but Harbaugh is a disciplinarian and unlikely to be comfortable with Reed's eccentricities especially as a position coach! Sad, but it is what it is. Good luck to Reed btw.

You know if that's true that's really, really sad a grown "man" acts like that. People like that usually get knocked down a few pegs by their own doing.

Bosa has to be related to Johnny Football... lucky he spilled his guts so we didn't get stuck with a first round mental case.

It was an April Fool's joke article. Bosa is not really holding out.

I'd be happy if the Ravens picked up Henry. The Ravens really need to improve the running game. Only 8 rushing TDs last year, and nearly half of those were by Flacco. Joe can't afford to be putting himself at risk running the ball, especially coming off serious injury.

Remember Leonard Williams was the consensus best player in the draft... but he fell all the way down to no 6... so you never really know... I can see a scenario wherein Miles Jack can fall to us.. wouldn't be surprise if a lineman or two get selected earlier than expected... or even another corner... Treadwell could be a dark horse... the Browns brought him in for a workout...

Ed could have gone out exactly like Ray - if he chose to. EVERYONE knew Reed should have retired after the Super Bowl, just like Ray. Well - everyone but one person: Ed. But isntead, he chose to go on - and added one more season to his resumé he really shouldn't have... But, at least that dismal season proved Ozzie and Harbaugh right not to resign him.

As for Ed as a coach: he may go on to be just as great a coach as he was a player - but in his first season as a coach, the Lions secondary actually took a step backwards from the previous season - at least according to the pass D statistics. I'm not aying it's on Ed, of course - but still...

That doesn't take away anything of Ed's huge career, of course.

Henry has massive bust potential and we don't even have a need at RB, makes no sense that high in the 2nd with such pressing needs at OLB/CB/DE/OL/ILB

That's hardly a worst-case scenario draft.

I view this draft as having 6 good non-QB top-talents before there is a noticeable step-down, so there really aren't many situations in my mind that would disappoint me.

Tunsil
Ramsey
Bosa
VH3
Jack
Buckner

We would get one of these 6 no matter what.

And then if you slot Wentz to Cleveland, and if you assume the Eagles do, in fact, want to trade-up for Goff, then you can safely move down to 8 (where the Eagles were) and still get whichever one of these guys fall.

A good comparison would be Tunsil falling to us. Now that would be awesome.

My guess at a Ravens mock draft

Round 1
1. Buckner – Day one, makes D-line a dominant force along with Williams and Jernigan
2. Joey Bosa – if Cowboys take RB, or QB and Bosa is sitting there, Ravens take him
3. Stanley – Upgrade LT

Round 2
1. Noah Spence /Shilique Calhoun – Best available pass rusher. Can’t afford not to address pass rush in the draft by round 2
2. La Raven Clark/Spriggs – If Raven get there Pass rusher in round 1, then get best available LT to project Joe.

Round 3 – Best available choice
1. Rashad Robinson CB
2. Deion Jones LB
3. Kolby Listenbee WR
4. Jerald Hawkins or Kyle Murphy - OT

Round 4 – Fill remaining needs with available players
1. Miles Killibrew SS
2. Willie Beavers - OT
3. Sean Davis CB/FS
4. KJ Dillion - SS
5. Spencer Drango G/OT
6. Malcom Mitchell or Tajae Sharpe, Ricardo Louis, Demarcus Robinson. Ravens won’t have 3 picks in the fourth and not have selected a Wr by then. One of these guys will be available.

134. Charone Peake WR Clemson

in 2nd Artie Burns CB In 3rd Scooby Wright ILB. Also like Joe Haeg OT in 4th

I like your choices, Im not gonna say no to Stanley for Ozzie. But Jack Bosa, Buckner, Ramsey and Tunsil all probably rate higher if they are available at 6. 26- Spriggs is a good pick, Ragland, Lawson Hargraves, Alexander would be steals if left available absolutely take them...Also I would consider Jaylon Smith as a 2017 and just let him sit til 2017. Westerman at #3 is a great pick, Artie Burns and Joe Haeg both get nods.

I contend that there is an even worse worst-case scenario and that would be having no QB selected in the top 5 and that all top 5 defenders that are being linked to us are gone. I still think Lawson is in the mix, although he was not mentioned in this article.

I don't see a trade back happening, because I don't think we're going to want to drop too far back and those immediately behind us may not have much motivation to give up picks to take our slot.

Seems to me they were good after SB win in the locker room. High fives and all that. I guess things like that happen between coach and player. It does not mean they don't like or respect one another.

How did so many people believe that Bosa story?

Just a little touchy about people bad mouthing my Ravens. Especially any draft pick that should be grateful to be in the position to be drafted. I'm not really sure on Joey Bosa any way? I watched the Combine and he was slow. Personally I like the guys that grew up poor and are more hungry than those that came from privilege.

I too miss the Jamal Lewis type running back. One that can punish your opponents and is load to bring down especially in the 4th quarter. I like Henry and if he is the best player available in 2nd round take him. If Trent Richardson returns to form we could have a hell of 1-2 punch. I know we have greater needs elsewhere but a chance to get a quality back would be nice and if no QB is taken in the first 5 picks and all our Defensive guys are taken I wouldn't mind Ezekiel Elliott.

I honestly think Buckner will be our pick if bosa is not available. Only because I think Brandon Williams walks next year as a UFA.

It was too early in the morning for April's fool and April 1st was the farthest from my mind. When I saw the story I flipped and started scheming for the ways I could exact revenge on Bosa on behalf of my Ravens! After I found out, I was pissed, relieved and then ashamed.

Derrick Henry???? Seriously??? The Ravens don't need another RB. What they do need is a pass rusher and CB. They can get both with their 1 and 2.

this would be the worse draft in our history to have 2 crappy alabama running backs on our team id cry

No that was 2013 Draft with Elam and Arthur Brown. We did get Brandon Williams though. You must not watch much college ball? Derrick Henry was the Heisman Trophy winner. It does mean something plus he helped his team win the National Championship as Trent Richardson did when he was at Alabama. Derrick is a load to bring down and I personally think he would help our running game and our notoriously slow starts which end up being losses on the road.
