2017 - on your radars

1,067 posts in this topic

May be early but next years class looks exciting, so why not?

Assuming we have a solid year and end up in the 20s, a guy who is really strong on my radar is Jonathan allen, senior 5tech from Alabama. He can challenge and tackles and guards, strong eneough for the interior and very light on the feet with rapid shuffles and shows a basic understanding of hand usage making him a quality 5tech. I like him to play 5tech for us better than anybody in 2016, yes that includes buckner. Has good vision and plays very disruptive. Isn't too reliant on strength or athleticism and shows quality technique even though it could use some refining, appears very coachable. High floor and ceiling. If you haven't already, check out his film.

Also, is travin dural returning for his senior year? I was real big on him and I'm tryna figure out where the hype went, haven't seen his name in months.

USC WR I wish was in this years class.

Juju is a freaking beast. He's my ideal receiver, He's big and long and extremely fast and leaps out of the stadium, but what i really love is his suddenness and how aggresively he catches the ball, he will be every bit as good as aj green if not better because I think He looks more explosive.

Agreed. Before I dove into this class I looked at highlights and was so disappointed finding out he's not eligible. He's going to be a star, good comp.

If he falls due to the being a RB, Perine from the Sooners would be awesome. D'haquille Williams would be great, but nothing short of him getting injured would let him slide far enough to for the Ravens to pick.

I've heard a lot about Williams but have yet to look into him. What's a good game to get a good idea of him?

Actually, we can forget Williams. I was mainly going off of how amazing 2014 season was. But his 2015 season wasn't great and he got kicked off the team. And he's actually in the this draft it seems, but teams are a bit leary of him because of character concerns.

Man, we are a month away from this year's draft. It really is way too early,

I disagree. There are prospects that won't come out until next year, what's to say we can't discuss them? If you wanna discuss 2017 prospects come here, if not then don't. Better than littering 2016 boards with 2017 discussions if the topic comes to mind.

Desmond King! I was praying he would come out this year! He was very good this past year and I think with another year under his belt, he could be a stud. Physical and plays really well in man coverage with instincts to make a play on the ball.

I like him a lot as a safety. He really struggles to turn his head in coverage but if he keeps the play in front of him then he is absolute gold making plays on the ball. He could be the ideal future replacement for weddle as he brings physicality and turnover ability if he is at safety. Perfect convert pick for us

Duke Williams ran like a 4.7 40 at the combine. Couple that with getting kicked off his team and he's going undrafted.

I'll echo the sentiments that this is way too early. But with that said (and it's nice to break up the constant stream of why we hate Ronnie Stanley and why Buckner is either overrated or going to be better than JJ Watt)...

Dural's going back to school for another year, which has had me thoroughly bummed for a while but at least I have another prospect to fanboy over ahead of next season.

Another guy on my radar is Notre Dame WR Corey Robinson. He was supposed to have a massive season in 2015, but to say he underwhelmed is putting it mildly. I think the potential's there, so it's something I'll be monitoring next season.

And it feels like you could name about 190 potentially franchise-changing RBs.

Both LSU WRs Dural and Dupree

JuJu Smith

Mike Williams

Desmond King (would be a good zone corner)

Myles Garrett (basically this season's Bosa from a hype perspective)

Dalvin Cook... probably not durable enough to play every down, but exciting to watch when healthy

/lol, agree on the RBs statement, Inqui

Nobody said you can't discuss them. I just don't see any point doing it in March 2016, especially considering that most people haven't made up their minds on who we want from this class.

2016 draft boards are littered into oblivion by now, this thread certainly won't do much additional damage, so by all means, discuss away.

I don't like to get sucked into hype machines, but I don't think it would be crazy to say that next year's RB class could be better than the 2014 WR class.

Dupree was another one who impressed me the more I watched of LSU. For a program that's always been about the gritty pro-style OLs, a dominant running game and a stifling defence, they've had some obscenely talented WRs recently.

I guess the best WR talents all want to play for Cam Cameron :P

I forgot to mention Alabama's Calvin Ridley, even though he won't be eligible.

I was going to make a piss-take 2018 prospects thread, but Ridley was the only player I could name off the top of my head.

It's a perverse thought in a way - Cam becoming a factory of WR talent.

One other name I forgot to mention was Michigan S Jabrill Peppers.

This is who I was going to post about him.  Sometime in the middle of our season when it was basically over and I started learning more about college I found tape on him and mentioned him in a post.  I like him, a lot.  Only think is that hes freaking huge, 5'11 @240, Ideally id like another Rice sized guy, but this guy just doesn't go down.

Same here, very interested in the rb class, esp Mccaffrey who could fit very well here and Perine because he's a beast.

Talking about WR, don't know if he's elligible, but Travis Rudolph caught my eye everytime I watched FSU. Don't know where draftniks have him going.

Give me Jourdan Lewis over any CB in this draft and next years

He really reminds me of Jamal Lewis when I see him run. His acceleration is incredible for a guy his size, and he seems to have pretty good vision too. And yeah, once he gets some momentum going he's damn near impossible for anyone to tackle one on one in the open field.

Also liked the toughness he showed against Clemson. He clearly got injured on his ankle and still played, still fought for every inch and got a goal line TD by fighting through tackles. You gotta love the attitude.

you already mentioned Perine, King, Garrett so I'll keep stressing my love for Carl Lawson and I'll add Greg McMullen (DT, Nebraska) and Travin Dural in there.

There must have been few other guys that I liked but that I can't remember in this moment; I'm editing the comment as soon as they come to mind.

Edit: Jalen Hurd, RB, Tennessee
