[News] Late For Work 3/31: C.J. Mosley Ready To Lead

Why would they put Mosley at tackle or SS? That doesn't make sense. He did come off the edge a few times to rush the passer but the guy is an ILB through and through.

What I meant is that it's hard to compare expectations of Mosley now and what they were of Elam. Mosley is well entrenched in one position, that he plays really well as ILB. That's the only thing he plays and he's good at it and knows his responsibilities. Elam played FS his rookie year, although he is better suited as SS and as far as I remember, he played SS in college too. Then in his sophomore year, he was asked to change position and move around, doing nickel at times and lining up all over the place. Secondary isn't the easiest transition from college to NFL and I believe that if Elam was in one position only and learning the ropes of that, he wouldn't have had the slump that he did.

Damn he better learn how to cover first, before he can lead the defense. Toasted by too many RBs and TEs last year.

AMEN to that! You lead by DOING but I don't think you can learn coverage thats more of a talent or gift.

If Mosley stays healthy he can be the leader of this defense. The Ravens have to sign Williams to an extension before he leaves like KO did this offseason.

I could see Brandon Williams getting a decent payday in 2017 from another team. For teams switching to a 3-4 defense, suddenly finding a good NT is not an easy task, and it is crucial that they have one for their defense to stop the run effectively. This factor will push B.Williams' value up, considering he is a top-3 NT in this league. Working against him is the fact that this coming draft is deep with interior DL talent. I think that we will see some considerable losses next season with Ricky Wagner, Aiken, and B.Williams, perhaps by design so that we can reload with comp. picks.

@Maryland it's a shame if we can't keep Brandon Williams next season. He's the most important player to get signed along with Justin Tucker and l'm tired and hurtful that we lose this types of players every year when we fully develop them to top players but it is what is. ? I hope they won't let CJ Mosley go when he's contact us up. I'm ok with letting Aiken and Wagner go because Ozzie can easily replace them but not Brandon Williams we need him for our defense great NT.

If we don't keep BWilliams I will be highly disappointed.  I know he will command a big payday, but considering market value and the way things are going, letting a corner stone of our defense go will be a huge risk.  Basically saying we are not going to resign our top rookies after their contract is up.  I know we will try to sign him and it makes sense for him to test the FA market, but if we just keep letting our top players walk and hope to draft a replacement, its going to be tough.

Hope my gut feeling is right about Williams. I'm thinking he'd stay as long as we offer a decent contract (not leave just for an extra million or two)

I like Mosley but I am not sure he is "ready to lead" as the article suggests. He has a good motor and does a lot of things right. His one failing is the same one we saw with every other Ravens linebacker this past season, they cannot cover the tight end or the backs from the backfield. The middle of the field was so wide open that any opponent getting there could have had lunch and still had time to catch the ball. It was absolutely awful. Where is Elam? What excuse are they going to make for his poor play this year? We have heard em all.

An extra million or two over 4 years is 4 million up to 8 million. If he hits the free agent market he will be good as gone. Reference KO and T Smith, McPhee, etc. It's a business first, game second.

There's a lot of idiot teams. There's a lot of greed.

If he have the money then why not? Doesn't make make him. It doesn't make them idiots,  especially when they have to spend a certain amount
