Status of Suggs' recovery?

44 posts in this topic

We've recently seen articles on Flacco and Perriman's return by training camp.  I've also seen an article stating SSS will be ready by game 1.

But what I haven't seen is a status on Suggs.  The only news on Suggs was his recent arrest for driving w/ a suspended license.

Has anyone heard anything regarding his recovery?

Not sure there has been anything new. Only thing I recall was Harbs in an interview a couple days ago just said that between texting Suggs and someone else (I assume a doc/trainer working with Suggs), he's on track/schedule to return for this season. But he hasn't seen him at all in-person, I guess to confirm.

Edit: here's video - http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/bal-ravens-harbaugh-on-the-draft-rules-and-suggs-20160322-premiumvideo.html

In 2012 he came back in less than 6 months from surgery, which is still insane to me. So we know he can come back from the injury, seeing as there's no update I'd assume it's business as usual and we'll see him at OTA's.

Pretty sure he had a sack in his first game back against the Texans as well.

The age of Suggs and Dumerville make it almost impossible that we don't draft 2 replacements this year.  Free agency doesn't hold all the cards in restoring our defense.  Jack might be the answer.  The guy reminds me of a young Ray Lewis.  It would be a dream to line up a high motor guy like Jack next to CJ on any given Sunday.  The problem is that the Jags have their eye on him too and they draft just ahead of us.  As long as the knee holds out, I would put him near the top of my short list at number 6.  He would make an immediate impact similarly to that of Kuechly with the Panthers, who had 62 tackles in his rookie season in 2012.  Needless to say, I'll be happy with whomever is left on the board (Stanley, Elliott, Buckner, Hargreaves, or Bosa).  I don't see us trading down unless someone offers us another #2 pick.

Too OLD and slow, showing up to training camp out of shape for multiple years?. Cm-on Man, an ex speed rusher , over 33 , now with a bad wheel?

Ravens need to move on and get younger. If they think him an Dumervil can get 20 sacks , Dumervil will will have 19 of them.

I hope he is progressing well, that SSS comment about him not being his usual chipper self made me worry that rehab might not be as easy three years after the first one. But regardless I think Suggs should be used in a more limited fashion to keep him fresh and effective. If we draft Bosa then we have a lot of potential to keep him and Doom very fresh and potentially getting those 20 sacks haha

Please, man! Doom gets sacks because of Suggs.

Worst-case scenario: Suggs replaces Upshaw as the edge-sealer while also providing markedly-better pass-rush skills

Best-case scenario: Suggs dispatches sacks and fumbles like it's 2011

Of course we need to get younger, that's the way it works.  But Suggs has had a lot of time to recover, he wont notch 12 sacks most likely, but hes going to have more than 1.  Your optimism is overwhelming.

Its called reality, look at other teams. We keep trying to resurrect dinosaurs. I still question his work ethic showing up to camp 30+ lbs overweight.

What message does it send to the younger players if the "So-called" leaders of the team are like that?

The last time he came back in 6 months but he wasn't at his best until the next season, it's going to be interesting to see how much he has left in the tank.

It should be considered by the leadership , Harb's has too many "Bromances" with players. Its a business, treat it like one.

And that's why when guys like Haloti and Boldin choose not to take pay cuts, I'm with them.

I never understand how fans get mad for guys not taking less, but are so quick to say, "cut them, they cost too much."

I also think it's crazy how guys get criticized for taking $3M (or something like that) more elsewhere. I don't care how much money you have. That's $3M. I'd be hard pressed to leave $3M sitting on the table.

Especially a lot of places have different tax law - including divisional away games (where players' game checks are issued). All of that factors in. I assume agents are savvy enough to get all of that information to the player when they're making that determination.

In another bit of boring agent legalese, Terrell has to pay over $200K to his now-deceased agent's estate - http://www.courthousenews.com/2016/04/06/terrell-suggs-ordered-to-pay-his-late-agent.htm

Before this injury Suggs was by FAR the Ravens best run defender and one of the top 2 pass rushers and the only one who was elite at both roles.   There is no one else to replace Suggs on the roster or likely to be groomed in 1 year in this draft.

As for the weight some people have shown they can lose weight really easily.  Suggs is one of those people and whatever his method are they seem to work for him.

Achilles injuries are one of the toughest injuries to recover from as an aging athlete. I won't go into all the details but il try to keep it as simple as possible. When you are cleared to come back from an ACL, it takes a few weeks of strength and conditioning until you are close to 100%. An achilis is different. When you are cleared for contact, it takes from 6-9 months until you get your burst back. You can ball but something is missing and you don't know what it is until it just comes back. That's why Suggs came back and seemed like another person until the next season. The total time frame is 12-15 months until you are anywhere near 100 percent when you rapture an achilis vs 6-9 months ACL.

Wow, thanks for that. You just proved my point, He's old NOW.

Can we really think he will be anything in two more years?
