[News] Has Ravens' Offseason Philosophy Changed?

26 posts in this topic

I trust in our system that's been implemented for years now. Trust in Ozzie & Co. I believe this is just a one year thing tbh but you never know. no matter what though I am going to stand behind this team & this FO. This is why the Ravens are a class organization. I love the signings we made! IMO I think KO was overrated anyway

To me it didn't matter as much about comp picks because realistically the only one of real consequence was Osemele. And to be blunt a third round potential was a non starter because in essence they traded that away for this years core player(s). Weddle, Watson, Wallace. So they re upped early. Upshaw won't get top dollar anywhere and they knew his market before he did. The moves equates to the only logical thing to do. I think the next big move will come after the draft and post June cuts. No need to find a trade partner or sweat out the draft. With 9 picks and a possible, who could ask for anything more?

The team had some glaring needs to address this year and the ability to trade comp picks might be nice, but they don't help us improve now. If the team was a little more solid and we didn't need to sign the guys we did, that's a different story.

Hopefully we will not miss KO and I like our signings as well. I guess we will all know how well this all works out a little later this year. Go Ravens!

At 12 MM I wouldn't want K.O period. He wasn't worth 12MM at least not to us. Monroe will be back motivated to play 16 games (fingers crossed) and we'll trade for and draft an offensive guard/tackle in the coming days. I think we'll be fine as a roster to go into draft day with the roster ready to play. This is what facilitates the BPA strategy.

C'mon Ozzie sign Upshaw "he's not that expensive." Now he's visiting the Flacons. ?

Signing him basically costs us a 3rd or 4th round pick.

More expensive than just the money.

The 5-11 record along w/ 20+ players on IR last dictated how the front office approached this off-season.

Not having enough quality depth handicapped us in so many ways last year.  Adding quality players at the TE, S, and a WR

positions plus creating depth at those positions will only benefit us in the long run.

@rmcjacket23 what's up rmc how's it going. ? So you saying that Ozzie doesn't want to sign Upshaw because of a lousy 3rd or 4rd pick in next year draft who might or might not be as a good draft pick? I'll will take Upshaw than a draft pick to keep our run defense in shape. Ozzie shouldn't think that but Ozzie loves picks so your right . That's probably the reason Ozzie hasn't sign him smh. ?

Seriously, how delusional are you people? Three years on the team and he's never played more than 11 games. In his career he's played 16 games once. But no, I'm sure this season, at 29 years old, he'll finally be healthy. I hope your crossed fingers work miracles.

IMHO The Ravens "style" is whatever is needed for the best team that can be put on the field, and several years from now. Perhaps they feel they have more latitude in FA than in past years because of having the 6th overall. One thing's for sure, that Ozzie and Eric know what they are doing, so buckle your chinstrap! It's going to be a great year! GO RAVENS!

See I like the concept of hope to enliven my day. Seriously, what choice do the Ravens really have right now? All we can do is believe in the Ravens plan. I suggest you show some civility and do the same instead of calling your fellow posters delusional.

Many have complete trust in our FO (I'm one of them), sucks it happened the year before being able to trade comps but they are doing what they can to field a great team. However KO may have gotten overpaid but I couldn't say he is overrated

The Raves don't have a style, they do what they have to do to sum up the best roster they can by the time September comes. If that means signing unrestricted free agents and/or spending more money then that's what they'll do.

Why shouldn't he think that way? Does anybody seriously think the Upshaw is such a good player that a 3rd or 4th rounder can't replace him?

Upshaw certainly isn't the only reason our run defense is generally solid. He's a piece of the pie...not the whole pie.

I heard these exact same things about JJ when he left. 2 years later, nobody remembered he was gone.

@rmcjacket23 well rmc you better hope Ozzie find his replacement then in this year or a 3rd or 4rd next year or the run defense is gonna struggle on the outside. Hope it's not a Darren Waller or a Tandon Doss type of pick. Maybe he has that in Z Smith but l don't know he ready to take that role yet. We'll see.

Maybe they will.

We could easily struggle on the outside in run defense and still win more games, which I'm fine with.

Id much rather get a comp pick for Upshaw that resign him.  Upshaw is a guy in our system that we can easily replace, just look at our past and how many guys we have produced.  He was not worth where we picked him.

@usmccharles @rmcjacket23 whatever you guys say. I can understand that they won't want him because he wasn't contributing in any way but not getting him because of one draft pick that they want next year draft seems ??????. Upshaw is a very underrated player and probably won't be expensive to sign. He was contributed very well and he also put physicalness in our team as well ex. hit on Ben Roethlisberger. But hey it is what it is. ?

Not saying the draft pick is the reason why they haven't resigned him. Its probably one of many factors.

Completely possible that we just don't think he's that good of a football player and that we have better players on the roster or will obtain somebody better. Certainly a realistic possibility.
