[News] Steve Bisciotti: Eugene Monroe Is Our Left Tackle

46 posts in this topic

If E. Monroe could just stay on the field it would help the offense out a lot. He has just had the injury bug the last couple of seasons.

Hopefully he can remain healthy. He did a good job when he was healthy.

Good point. Remember when we fans were begging to get him extended. How we all forget.

Just a couple of seasons ago this line was solid. Monroe, KO, Zuttah, Yanda, Wagner. I think Urshel or Jensen could jump in for KO. If healthy we should be fine. Add depth in mid-round draft and develop Wesley and Brown from practice squad.

Not surprised. Look at the contract & cap hit. Ravens can't let him go without a big hit. If he stays healthy, he'll be fine.

True, though it is a sunk cost. He counts that much regardless if he's here or not.

If they can replace him with somebody better for $2.1M or less, then they should do it.

Post-June 1 cut makes more sense also.

Out to waste another $6M on this guy. We could have cut him and been done with this charade. Now instead of the $6m remaining bonus, we'll be paying him the $6m bonus plus $6m of base salary this year. Sucks.

Well.... I still really think we are after Tunsil or Stanley in Rd.1! But if Biscotti is sincere... I think our draft looks very different. Round1. Patrick Ramsey - CB- FSU (insert and Start) Round # 2...William Jackson -CB- Houston (could also start and in a conference with AJ Green and Anotonio Brown, CBs are in high demand) Round 3. Shaun Oakman - DE -Baylor (giant-can add to the pass rush) Round 4. Malcolm Mitchell - WR -UGA (Stud WR if not for inj would be a 1st round pick and maybe top WR in this seasons draft- worth the pick here) Round 4 (from Lions) Travis Feeney - OLB - WASH (beast / freak pass rusher who could become the replacement for Suggs / Doom down the road) Round 5 (comp) Blake Martinez - ILB - Stanford (a jim harbs recruit who is a tackling machine and can help to replace DSmith and compliment CJ well) Round 6 Kolby Listenbee - WR /KR - TCU (speed to burn and can PR /KR) Round 6 (comp) Tyvis Powell -S - OSU (hitter with size / can grow under Leslie Frazier... has a lot of talent but also a very raw football player.). Round 7. Tayler Fallen - T- Memphis (Giant at 6'7" nearly 350 and can move fairly well) He will be an upgrade over Hurst and while a little bit of a project has enough ability to push Monroe for sure!

Well that answers our question at Tackle, unless we somehow end up with Tunsil.

Eugene Monroe just got the dreaded vote of confidence. In three days he'll be gone...just kidding. I hope for his sake and secondly for the team's sake that he is healthy and ready to go again. A healthy Monroe makes me feel like the left side of our line will hold up as long as somebody competent is playing LG.

That's not how the cap works.

He stays = he costs $8.7M against cap.

He gets cut prior to June 1 = he costs $6.6M against cap.

That's a $2.1M savings pre- June 1.

Short of banking on the draft, which is a huge gamble, the likelihood of finding a better LT anywhere for the price is practically 0.

I am sorry, I do not like to be mean, but the thought of Hurst as our backup LT gives me nightmares. We better have a better option when the season starts or I will be upset with Ozzie.

This is damage control. After Ozzie tried to replace him and Harbaugh distanced himself and the club from Monroe's comments and every news station and media outlet is reporting the Ravens can't wait for June 1 to cut him, Bisciotti realized we may be stuck with him and maybe we need to say some nice things and make him feel good so he at least TRIES to make it through his usual 4 or 5 games. I was okay with Monroe when he played. He was far better at pass blocking than run blocking but he was a serviceable left tackle we had to pay when we got him because the supply of LT was low and the demand was high so we overpaid. It was what the market demanded at the time. However, the market for left tackles is horrible and although Ronnie Stanley would be an OK pick, it's not that sexy pick you want for an impact player picking at 6th for the first time in 15 years. Yes we did it with Ogden, but that was a franchise building moves, we're not quite to that point, yet. Basically, say hello to your starting tackle for next year because this is ownership throwing in the white flag and surrendering to the fact that we are out of options for left tackle and we are on plan "d" or "M" for Monroe.

Who replaces him? You can't count on the draft. 1) No guarantee you get the guy you want, and 2) even if you do get the guy you want, LT in the NFL is not a plug and play position. Fact is, Monroe is our only viable option at this point. Plus, as others have said, when he's healthy, he's solid.

Jensen looked more than capable, but Urschel is actually even more dependable than him and is actually above average too.

I won't be pissed with Stanley because he obviously is very good in pass protection and can keep Flacco upright, but I'd rather take a defensive star like Bosa, Buckner, or Jack then grab an above average Tackle as insurance to Monroe in the second, which I pray is Spriggs because he is going to be a stud. Super athletic, strong, quick, and has tremendous foot work, even Beavers in a season could develop into a very solid player.

I like the idea of Monroe being our LT and I'm hoping he is motivated to play a full 16 game schedule in 2016. He is a very serviceable LT and cutting him costs us a ton of money not to mention dead money as well. As long as Monroe isn't Albert Haynesworth ( I doubt it), who basically shut it down after getting his up front money only to be released or traded, we are going to be okay.

When he is healthy Monroe is a solid option at LT. I know a lot of mock drafts have the Ravens taking a tackle at 6 but I would rather have Monroe who is proven protecting Joe this season. I don't hate the idea of the Ravens taking a tackle at 6 I would like to see Monroe be the first option.

Steve's comments aren't really anything new/revolutionary. We know, as of right now, that Monroe is our LT going into training camp. The question is whether he will be our starting LT a few weeks into the season after injuries start to hit.

A month ago Tunsil and Stanley were considered top teir prospects. Since then, Tunsil has moved head and heels ahead of Stanley. Stanley really did himself a disservice at the combine with his interviews and horrible measurable for a top 5 prospect.

If for whatever reason Tunsil falls to 6 then Ozzie should take that pick to the bank! If Stanley is there at 6 I think we take someone else or trade out. Your probably right. Take someone in the second with more potential and slide him to LG until he's NFL ready to play LT.

I hear you on Stanley... but I really wonder if some of these guys are purposely sabotaging their interviews to ensure they get taken later by a perennial contender. I mean Come on... Stanley is a ND graduate - he is surely not a dumb guy.... its kinda like Shane Rey getting caught smoking weed 4 days before last years draft. He knew he was a top 10 pick... that pushed him back to later in RD 1 where he was able to be taken by the Broncos and finished his rookie season with a super bowl ring?
