[News] Late For Work 3/23: Watch John Harbaugh's Face After Learning Dwight Freeney Is Still Available

36 posts in this topic

Suggs and Dumervil will be back no need there but Joe's O line needs a ton of help.

Suggs is coming off an Achilles injury and isn't a spring chicken, Dumervil is also getting up there in age and to keep these guys fresh for the whole season you need to give them breathers. As you saw last year, nobody could even come close to replacing Suggs last season. We don't have the depth. While I am not sure what Freeney still has left at his age, gotta think in a rotational situation he's better than anything else we currently have at OLB...even if they bring Upshaw back..which I hope they don't. Move on, let somebody else play or draft his replacement.

Ravens aren't done in free agency yet, but my guess is they are until the draft. Also, why are we worried about whether or not we signed Freeney last year? It's already over, and hindsight is 20/20.

Not hindsight for me, Freeney over Babin was always a no brainer in my view. i opposed signing Babin through and through. outside of two random years where he made some noise fro TEN and PHI, he's always been a fairly average dude at best.

I was just trying to make sense out of it again since this piece stated Freeney's salary demands were too high and then told us he signed with the Cards for a can of pringles in the same sentence.

You're only looking at it from one side. You ASSUME that if the Ravens offered the same (or more) money Freeney would have automatically signed. What if the guy didn't want to sign with the Ravens, regardless of salary? Not every FA signs with the team that offers the most money. And even though he got the vet minimum, he got $100K per sack after the first 4 (50K for each of those). So in essence his contract was $1.6 million last year (for 13 games).

Please no richardson as he is Done.......I really like our RB'S just the way the year ended, just add a healthy rested Forsett and i think we're set there.........but Feeney would be a great 1 or 2 year guy since y'all into old guys....that would make everyone happy i think!

Did you mean future first rounder DeForest Buckner..?

Either way, I'd be happy.  The only other options would be to trade up for Ramsey or Jack, or to trade down for Elliott.

same thing i said to Jacket: you're talking outlier possibilities. There's a million things that are possible merely because you never say never, but possible and likely are two different things.

Guy like Freeney is a beggar, not a chooser.
i never heard anything about him not wanting to play in Baltimore, and there's no reason to believe that'd be the case,
We dont have Arizona's secondary, and certainly dont have a linebacker that can cover like Buchannon, so i wouldnt take his 8 sacks for granted if he came here, Even Dumervil only got 6. I dont think he wouldve broken us.

Well, I wouldn't really categorize him as a beggar.

He played 12 years, accomplished a ton, and made about $95M doing it. Frankly, if he didn't get a deal he felt good about, he probably would have just hung it up, which is maybe what he does this offseason.

None of us really know the circumstances for why he didn't come here. Maybe we never offered him a deal. Maybe we saw the film he put together for two years in SD and decided he wouldn't be any good (certainly a reasonable perception). Frankly, if you compared the two over a 1-2 year period, Babin was sort of the easy choice for a variety of reasons.

Hindsight, obviously.
