I would assume then if Gilmore is good to go, then Pitta and Boyle may be the next players cut.

I doubt they cut Boyle.  Watson is here 2 years max.

While I don't think they would either.... Remember Waller is also converting to tight end. It is going to make it interesting... Pitta will be cut most likely. Boyle doesn't count against the 53 man roster while suspended so I guess they may decide to make a decision then later in the season? It will be interesting to see.

I didn't forget about Waller.  But I see him as an experiment and a big unknown at this time.  We at least know Boyle is a pretty good blocker and can make plays at TE.

I also view him as an experiment but if he shows promise who do you stick with when Boyle's suspension is over. A 6'6 4.4 40 yard dash guy who hasn't had off the field concerns or the guy who has already been suspended twice for PED's. Luckily Boyle does not count against the roster until week 11.

If Waller wasn't such a beast in special teams I would look for him to be on the practice squad but I think moving him to tight end gives them a spot to keep him and keep him active for games. Watson will get a lot of looks, but if Gilmore is healthy we need to feed him the rock as much as we can as he is our future and Watson is a fill in because Boyle isn't very smart. The job of a tight end is to do what Gilmore did a lot which is lower his shoulder and bang through tackles, however, if it means he is injured all the time, then he needs to get as much as he can and go down. I loved when he ran over people last year but would love it more if he was healthy enough to play a lot.

Gilmore will earn the #1 spot over Watson and when Waller learns the position, he will be a BEAST! He already knows how to run, catch and block, he just has to learn the nuances of the position.

Kind of curious he's backing up Watson. I was thinking of the two as equals.

That is just as of now. They certainly did not go get Watson to simply have him play a very small role. Neither did they ever say you will just get a starting job. Harbaugh is motivating his T.E's to take the starting job by way of them making it impossible to take them off the field due to their results on the field.

Ideally, I'm thinking they are hopeful Gilmore and Williams will deal with less injuries this season and take that next step as players. I could see them taking the starting job by mid-late season if things go well.

O.K. they've got Watson, Gillmore, Williams(who I think is going to break out this year), and Waller as A "project"......and then the Raven's could also take another TE in the draft(remember, best player available is Ozzie's motto!). So, it's goodbye Pitta(thanks for the memories...), and Boyle out the door, probably won't cut him before his suspension is up just in case of injuries, but dude's on some mighty thin ice. JUST SAY NO NICK!!! It's A shame, he seemed like he had A good NFL future. Was he hanging out with Hill? Another good player, can't say NO!

it is highly unlikely that we take another TE in this draft. This class is really weak and over the last two years we have drafted three tight ends. We have already dedicated enough recourses on that position.

I think if Gillmore comes back by TC we will be set at TE. Waller can be a hybrid WR/TE for offensive scheme complexity and we'll be oka. I'm already loving our receiving corps of SSR, Aiken, Wallace, Perriman and the 3 TEs.

Our FO will take "best player available." Watson-older veteran, Gillmore-coming off injury, Williams-unproven 1st year/hoping he will be better, Waller-never played TE/project, Boyle-2nd substance abuse suspension, Pitta-possible career ending injury. I'm not saying our TE position is horrible, but it's not set in stone either. If there's A player out there on draft day that will help us, you take him. Joe Flacco likes his TE dump-offs, so this is always going to be A need position. If Gillmore is re-injured and Williams can't cut it, we're left only with Watson. Raven's run ALOT of 2 TE sets.

well they say they take bpa (thats really just lip service) but its really bpa at a position of need. And like I said there aren't any tight ends in this class that would be worth taking. But lets say we did take one. One of two things would happen. A. He can't beat out anybody on the team and gets cut or B. he beats out Willams, Crockett, or Waller and one of them gets cut. Either way we would be cutting a recent draft pick which really doesn't make sense. All teams say they take best player available but in many cases takin BPA doesn't make sense especially in latter rounds.

Good news about Gillmore potentially. The labrum is such an odd part of the body and one of the worst injuries you can have to that part of the body is called a SLAP tear. Those are the ones that almost always require surgery. The other kinds are kind of like a 50/50 situation or less where surgery doesn't really guarantee an improvement. I just hope Gillmore is okay because he is a Raven to the core and I love seeing him on the field. I know Watson was brought in to start and if Williams develops he's probably the starter of the future, but you need a guy that can block. Waller, he's intriguing and I would love to see what he can do.

If we really want another tight end I would love for the Ravens to take a guy named LaQuan McGowan as an UDFA. The guy is a 6'6'' 405lbs TE who used to be an offensive lineman. He makes one handed catches almost all the time and while he's not exactly fast, he can move rather well for a man his size and actually has moves..a juke and a dead leg type move. I doubt very seriously anyone will take him as a pick in the 7th round. The guy did 30 reps of the 225lbs. bench press which already makes him a lot stronger than "Mount" Cody.

What really do you have to lose? Have him start working out to drop some of his weight, try him out at TE and give him a look at offensive line and he could even be a goal line full back.
