[News] Late For Work 3/21: Will Ravens Sniff Around LT Joe Thomas Trade?

38 posts in this topic

Sometimes the hardest thing to do after something as sudden and devastating as this is to find closure. Without that last goodbye, the last I love you, the last hug, that one thing you wished you would have said makes it tough to come to terms with this tragedy. Perhaps the funeral will provide that closure to a lot of people. But the Ravens and we, as a fan base, need to focus on our goals, move forward, and keep this young man in our minds as we strive for that goal that he wanted as well. Where we can't change the past, we have control over our destiny and nothing would honor this man more than to have his name on a SB ring to give to his family. GO RAVENS!!!!!

If the Browns were shopping Thomas I feel they would only let him go for something big, such as a first rounder or multiple lower picks. Personally I feel he wouldn't be dealt, but I'd sacrifice a second and future 3rd or 4th for him as he would cement the blind side for another 3 or more years in a critical window for this team. BTW we all love Harbaugh and Stallworth's tweet shows why.

So sorry to hear of Trey Walker's passing. Stay strong, those of you who have been personally affected by his loss. And those of you that ride motorbikes, please wear a helmet. Even minor injuries can be fatal when you're going at any speed.

1. I have no idea what the price would be to trade Joe Thomas to a division rival, but whatever it is, we aren't paying it.

2.

Browns EVP of football operations Sashi Brown said the team is not planning to trade LT Joe Thomas.

There have been rumblings Cleveland's roster teardown could include trading the six-time All-Pro. "That's not our plan at all," Brown said. "Our plan is not to trade Joe Thomas." Brown left some wiggle room by using the word plan. While it may be true Cleveland is not planning a trade right now, those plans could change if the right offer comes in or Thomas decides to force his way out of yet another roster rebuild. Thomas has played every snap since the Browns made him the No. 3 overall pick in the 2007 draft.

I really wish we would resign Upshaw. Letting Daryl Smith go, I understand, but Upshaw has been a proven tackler and work horse for this defense since we drafted him. Our defense will surely miss his presence. If they let him walk, it'll be another poor move made by our staff, not because Upshaw is that good, but because we dont have anyone proven to step in his place. Same with Suggs, as soon as he got injured our whole defense looked different.

Right now, Siri should answer that deep sadness resides in M&T Bank Stadium and the Baltimore region because of Tray Walker's sad demise. RIP buddy! We're still thinking of you.

I have a feeling we will be hitting the draft heavily on defense this year. Maybe two or three picks will be offense, the rest defense. Can't wait to see who we pick.

draft ronnie stanley and be done with it. even though he has missed several games lately it would not be wise to release monroe unless we find a trade partner. he is a veteran and he is our best option at least for this season until stanley or another player shows they can take over

Stanley might not be the plug and play guy we want. He could take a year or two to develop. His footwork does not match up with a premier LT and he would be a huge reach at 6. If we traded back and got him, I could deal with it. But Bosa, Jack, and Hargreaves will all have more of an impact, and we have not addressed the defense enough yet.

Cleveland will never trade with us after they let us move up one pick only to take Haloti Ngata in the Draft. They paid for the decision twice a year for a long time.

I rather see him stepping up as a pass rusher, rather than filling Courtney Upshaw's role. If he goes for a decent price, I'd stick with Upshaw, he's solid at what he does.

So in 2016 Mack would count $4.05M against our $6.2M. If that happened expect to a bunch of cut to make up for that amount so we can still pay our rookies. A 6th overall pick won't come cheap either. Since Monroe would be $6.6M in dead money compared to saving $2.2M, I wouldn't expect him to be a cap casualty either. Cuts would have to include Matt Elam($1.3M) and/or Justin Forsett ($2.3M) along with any combo of Ricky Wagner ($1.7M), Anthony Levine($1M), James Hurst($600k), Taliaferro($524k)) and possibly even Justin Forsett($2.3M).

Keep Monroe, draft a LT to be groomed. I love Thomas but at 32 he is on the downside of his career....Plus pretty sure Cleveland would want to trade him inside the division....

Try asking Siri. While funny, I didn't actually get the same result. Doubtful it was real.

You have to be in the Cleveland area when asking.

Upshaw may end up costing too much.  Aftert he signings of Weddle and Wallace the Ravens are about $6.2M under the cap.  We'll need more space this year if they draft a #6 overall pick which means not much left for a bigger Upshaw contract or even the $4.2M Mack's 2016 salary would cost.

My concern with articles like this is that it makes me believe Ravens front office is in win now mode. Joe Thomas at his age is not worth giving up anything considering all of the holes Ravens have. Ravens already have Weddle (31), Smith Sr. (36), and Watson (35). How many old guys do you want at key positions? Webb , Pitta, J. Smith are overpaid. Add to that all of the questions: Who is Perriman, Can Campanero ever stay healthy, Will J. Smith ever live up to expectations, What about Monroe's health and do we need to upgrade Lt, how will Joe be after knee surgery first year? Paying guys like Wright and now to even consider Upshaw who will not make your 5-11 team any better. They were healthy last season. What was their impact? Ravens need to stop wasting money with a win now mentality and start drafting better for the future. At pick 6, they can start that this year.

Gotta love when free agency begins, and nfl "analysts" dump a sea of absurd trade scenarios on the fans' head 99% of which will never go beyond the border of their imagination...

We will clear significant space after June 1st when we let Pitta go! Not sure who will be around or what will transpire by then in the FA market but Ozzie is know to make late moves and we will have a more clear picture of who are team is at that point (post draft)

Well we will most likely be using most of the cap space from Pitta to sign our draft picks.

If we were to sign all of our draft picks prior to June 1, they would eat up the majority of our available cap space right now, which means we in theory couldn't spend a dime for another 2+ months.

Late moves typically come from camp cuts, which won't transpire until probably the July-August timeframe.

Our Offense looks better at the skill positions already this season (even before the draft and even before FA is over). WR... We will have Perriman, SSS, Mike Wallace and Camp at minimum. TE... Watson, Gilmore, Maxx and Waller. RB... Forsett (back), LT (back), Buck (with a year experience) and West... at minimum. QB... Flacco (back) and Mallet (with some improved comfort level in our system). The OL is still solid with RWagner, MYanda and Zuttah (back), Urschel has played great, and Monroe (if healthy) and I expect us to move still at that position (Tunsil or Stanley)?

Our Defense still has some question marks??? DL will be awesome with BWilliams, Timmy, Urban, KLM, CDavis and more... LB's some question marks (Doom and Suggs(back),ZSmith looked good last year! CJ but then ZOrr or ABrown??? CB's Jimmy and who opposite??? KArrington back and WDavis but need help at CB... Upgraded with Weddle at S but losing WHill hurts... but Webb moving there seems like an upgrade.... Brooks and Elam will be nice depth! (Need help at LB (both inside and out) and CB!

Guess all your questions will be answered when the season begins. I don't think many people consider any draft picks that the Ravens will make will be wasting money. Feel a little empathy for Pitta will ya. Pitta was well worth the money. Just unlucky injury for him. Go Ravens.

I feel for Pitta, but you don't give a long-term deal to a player after he broke his hip. I'm not sure if any football player has come back from that type of injury. If Ravens draft better, they will not need to fill holes through free agency.

I think we have to stick with Monroe this season. His cap hit would not be something we can deal with smartly. I have a feeling he will be good this year. You can predict injuries and his have not been the same area of his body so I don't think it will be chronic. I don't think Thomas will be in the plans. I think we will go DE or CB first round. OLB for sure in the first 4 rounds. O line in the first 4 rounds as well.
