[News] Ravens Re-Sign WR Marlon Brown, OLB Chris Carter

41 posts in this topic

But why? Im all for potential.. but we really haven't seen much since his rookie year, and there have been plenty of opportunities. Id really like to see what unknown guys like Butler, Mathews and perriman can do with increased snaps. Were crowded at Wide With Smith Aiken, Wallace, perriman and butler, plus hoping we take a flier on either braxon miller, josh doctson, or sterling shephard i just hoped we were moving on from non producing/potential/project players

What a waste. Ozzie started with a bang. I know the trend of signing game changing FA can't continue forever but signing Marlon Brown is one hell of a head scratcher. Since the Snow Bowl vs Minnesota I can't remember Marlon catching a ball. That's how long its been.

Boooooooooooo on BROWN? Whhhhyeee Ozzie, y.
I'd wait for more cuts during the off season like Amendola for depth!
More head scratching moves!
Ridiculous and wasted money!

It can't hurt to have Brown back in camp, especially given the WR injuries we seem to go through every year. The guy knows the system so it makes since to keep him around. Will he make the team? Doubtful if all the other WR stay healthy, but it"s no risk bringing him back, and good insurance considering our injury history. Kinda same with Carter, he'll fight for A special team job, more so now that Trawlyck signed with Oakland. Don't really know if he'll stick either, but he knows our system.

I would say, before people started bashing Ozzie (even though some people got a head start on me) these are camp bodies. To fill up three practice fields with 11 people going on both sides requires the Ravens have enough people in all the positions to be able to adequately evaluate the talent. Not everybody signed by the Ravens are going to start or even make the team. These guys know the system and can be great camp fillers allowing the coaches to do their thing. Sometimes it is hard to believe that people who follow the team so closely would be so anxious to criticize and complain when they clearly have limited knowledge of how things work.

I gotta agree with you. Can't really argue too much with what Ozzie and the FO do because they obviously know more than any of us. Brown has shown potential and if he can stay healthy and get his confidence back I think he would be a good receiver to have as the #4 #5 guy - Wallace #1, SSS #2 and Aiken #3. We've seen what injuries can do to a team first hand and we need to have guys that (1) know the system and (2) Flacco can feel comfortable with. Brown offers that to the team and that's what I think and why I think he was resigned.

Amen..... at some point they will have 90 men on the roster. Why not give him one more camp to see what he has.

Agree. And Marlon knows the playbook.

And he's got potential at a fraction of the price of bringing in another veteran.  I'm anxious to see where all of this goes.    I think it will cause a lot more healthy competition.

People forget, although Oz is the face of player transactions, the coaches have a lot of input on who they want and who they want back.....If Harbs were to let Oz know there was no way he makes the team, then this doesn't happen...

Why not signed Upshaw Ozzie? Marlon Brown didn't have to be resigned. We have too many wrs and if you get one in the draft that's too much. Upshaw is a great run stopper and l would love to get him back. :-)

Uhhh i certainly think that this is our best depth chart come August, SSS, Aiken, Perriman, Wallace, Matthews and between camp and Butler, I'd prefer Butler has he flashed a little and doesn't get hurt every game lol Marlon will be cut I believe

Upshaw is so unappreciated it startles me. The guy is an elite edge setter and a powerhouse that clogs up lanes. He might not be a pass rusher like we hoped but he brough attitude and disciple to our defense

If my memory is correct, I think Carter is the guy who really intrigued me in the few games he played. If it's the correct guy I am remembering, I was impressed and I thought he did a good job for us..

They are both camp bodies, no need to overreact, this doesn't "mean" anything. Marlon is a long shot to make the final roster.

If the Jets don't offer stupid money, which i don't think they can as they have cap issues as well, i feel Oz is just seeing what kind of offers teams will give him, and if they are within reason then Oz will throw him a offer.....Oz won't over-pay, and in Upshaw's situation i think he affords the luxury of having the wait and see mentality on this.....Upshaw is a player Pees really likes as well, so IMO, i feel if we can afford him back, we will get him back....

I think Marlon's lack of production last year was largely due to him being forced into routes and roles that he is not well-suited for. He's a big-bodied receiver who should be able to contest deep throws but simply lacks the straight-line speed and separation to succeed there. I would agree that he is probably just a camp body, but if he can work on those drops he could be an excellent red zone target as his size makes him a matchup nightmare.

I have been a Marlon supporter, but i have to admit, i feel Mathews has more upside, and Marlon is going to have to have a heck of a camp to make the team.....And snaps in pre-season games will be few and far between for all the WR's who are trying to make the team, as we seem to have a lot of young talent to look at.....JMO.....

hopefully they were able to sign him for $5,000 so when he gets cut for someone better it will not hurt the budget too much. i really want to see him turn the corner but he plays too soft and is afraid to go over the middle for his size.
