[News] Ravens Releasing Safety Will Hill

Here we go, just as some thought here, Jeff Zriebec is putting it out there in this tweet: https://twitter.com/jeffzrebiecsun/status/710208049248649216

Apparently Hill is facing some discipline from the league. This would be his 4th strike and it would be a LONG suspension if it happens to be substance abuse again.

I don't get it! If we really wanted to get rid of the guy then just trade him! You don't give away a stud like that for nothing...

This is some clever stuff from the FO. They must have known Hill was going to face discipline from the league for some time now thinking of the Webb conversion to safety, the Arrington restructure, the Weddle signing. Impressive Oz & Co. you got out ahead of something that could have been a media nightmare and certainly found a suitable replacement. Weddle and Webb on the back end? Yea all day. Webb can play the middle, close to the line, while Weddle stays deep. Now we need to see if Arthur Brown is capable of starting alongside Mosley, utilize some of our remaining cap on someone to compete with Wright for starting CB, and get our hands on Buckner or Bosa and we have a defense that, on paper, looks like a juggernaut.

Hill was a huge liability in the secondary. Don't think so - go back and watch Torrey's long touchdown and then Malcolm Floyd's long TD. Every week Hill was caught looking in the backfield while WRs went deep. To me, that is more reason why the CB's looked bad - expecting help from our safety who's not there. Yes, Hill made some plays but more often than not, he was out of position. Plus at his age, Weddle is more a SS than a FS. We need someone who can actually help cover a WR at FS (which is why Webb/Brooks makes more sense). Elam backs up Weddle at SS.

*** Rumor has it, Hill was going to be suspended again like Bryant

Or Myles Jack

For the first time I passionately disagree with this move. Saving 3 mill is not worth letting such a good safety go. He was a hard hitter who is also a ballhawk and just 26!? How on earth does the FO think Webb is better than Hill? Before we got weddle I would say Hill was the best safety on our roster. Cut Lewis or anybody but hill. Very disappointing.

That's strange... this would be his 4th failed test, if I'm not mistaken. Wouldn't it warrant a season-long ban?

I'm wondering the same thing.  There must be more to the story.

With his 10 game suspension the move could be brilliant....if 10 games into the season we are struggling, we sign him real cheap....i kid...well maybe not....:)

I don't care if he was a first round pick, drafting Elam was a mistake. They should've just owned up to that and cut him instead of releasing Hill.Hill was by far the better player.Releasing Hill gave us $2.8 million in cap and releasing Elam would've given us $1.8 million.Keeping Hill would've been well worth having that $1 million in cap still on the books. He was young and was a freaking play maker. They probably won't give the fans one,but I wish they would give us an explanation on how they came to the conclusion that keeping Elam was a better move than keeping Hill.Remember the way he covered Graham vs New Orleans in 2014?Elam could never do that. What has Elam proven he's good at anyway???UGH...just like that the euphoria that has been built up over the past few days has been eviscerated.

Bio, I know he had three failed tests in three yrs. with the Giants, so this one would make #4, perhaps there are some special circumstances operating here that we aren't aware of or perhaps something dealing with the time parameters of the offense.

they will not resign him. he had his chances with the giants and the ravens and couldnt follow the league rules. jerry jones can have him

Being suspended for 10 games justifies this, and he was told when he signed he was a on tight leash....The zero tolerance is in play here as well......It made the decision for them as who to release, as far as safeties go....

Man l still can't believe this. Is a shocker!!!! Weddle and Will Hill would've been awesome now me saying LB should be our priority getting Myles Jack now Ramsey is our priority. They gonna have to trade up now to get him. So Will Hill suspended 10 games for substance abuse policy that's why they cut him?

I know everybody is wondering so I actually looked up the NFL Substance Abuse Policy and I found out something rather interesting. We know this is Hill's 4th offense but lookie what I found.

Firs of all, Hill's first offense was for Adderral which is a substance of abuse but could also qualify as a PED as a stimulant. That's not the interesting part, what follows is:

"Stage Three

Stage Three, like the other two stages, involves complying with a treatment plan and submitting to unannounced drug tests. The consequences for violations during Stage Three are much more severe: The player faces a year-long ban from the NFL. If the first violation in Stage Three is for marijuana, the player receives a 10-game suspension instead of a year-long ban."

So we can assume this is Hill's first violation in stage three for smoking weed. There is also a precedent for 10 game suspensions for alcohol related infractions, but since we don't have any information about a DWI or DUI....I think we can safely assume it was pot....which is where Hill's career has just gone to. A shame.

Will "The Thrill" belonged to another, rather obscure Baltimore player, but not in the world of baseball player named Will Clark. Do not besmirch the name of that man.

Reggie Nelson, please, and thank you.

Been pondering that possibility too, all the guy does is pick off passes all day long. Has to be some reason why teams are shying away from him when guys like Raheem Moore get big deals after completely tanking last year. Yeah, the Raheem Moore that got completely toasted by Jacoby Jones on the Joe Flacco miracle pass in the playoffs.

But with all the safeties we have still on the roster, making a move for Nelson doesn't make sense unless he falls through the cracks and comes on a real cheap deal...in which case...goodbye Kendrick Lewis and Terrence Brooks.
