[News] Eric Weddle Sold On Ravens Because Of Winning Culture

35 posts in this topic

am i the only one that's pumped already for the season!

If we're looking at this outside of Purple Sunglasses this is our off season:

Ravens sign OLD TE to patch up beat up squad.
Ravens sign retread speed burner who's lost a step and has questionable hands.
Ravens sign dynamic playmaker safety, but is it a year too late?

Now, Ben Watson is a steady if unspectacular player. I think we needed him with Pitta being done, Gillmore banged up and questionable, Maxx Williams also got beat up last year, and Boyle....yeesh.

Wallace I think is a solid pick up, but I think we overpaid him. I don't really know if the ROI is there. I'm a little worried about this move.

Initially I thought Weddle would be a mistake. I just hope last season's drop off really was due to injury and he's got a few more good seasons in him.

Careful!! I was fully pumped last season. These off season articles will pump you up beyond reasonable expectations. I'm keeping my powder dry this year. NFL power rankings has Ravens at #23. While I think they are wrong, I don't want to go through the major disappointment like last year again!

Hopefully the injury bug will stay away. That being said imo we were one of the best teams last season even though our record did not show it. How many games were lost by a single score? Just saying. Hopefully the talking heads will keep us under dogs.

What a great fit on the Baltimore Ravens! I know every player that we've ever targeted in free agency has to fit the mold of the "Raven" first and foremost. Looking at Eric and the way he plays and the swagger he has, he fits Baltimore like a glove! Thanks Eric for choosing Baltimore and welcome to your wife and your 4 kids. You can rest assured that they have just joined a very welcoming and fun place to grow up, learn and live and love.

The signing does make a lot of sense with the Hill suspension. I was initially shocked they released him, he was rated as the Ravens top safety, he was a thumper and played well in the box. But, with Hill gone, we were virtually naked in the safety position. Webb is stopgap at best, Elam and Brookes are a couple breaths away from being labeled busts, Kendrick Lewis was horribly ineffective, on down the line. They could draft Jalen Ramsey on top of this move and still have only two good safeties. The biggest hope we can have is that Elam is concentrating more on football now than selling shoes or he's going to be selling them as a full time job. Now is the time we need him, absolutely need him to mature and get it together and play to his potential as he is the only other good in the box safety we have.

As much as Weddle is drawn to the Ravens because of a winning culture, I see Weddle's role as integral to revitalizing the winning culture in a bounce back year. Along with guys like SSS, it sounds like Weddle is just the type of leader, producer and mentor we need to also help maximize every players level of desire to be "pissed off for greatness" a la #52.

Great to hear a player who values other things besides just money. Still he is going to be making more than I. Welcome aboard, let the picks begin!

My concern is linebackers and offensive line there some big holes.

I think that Elam will be a pleasant surprise this year. I have faith in him if Pees doesn't try to have him assume 3 different spots in the secondary by his second year. He needed to clean up his blown tackles, but before 2014 he was always a solid tackler. Maybe a year off will give him a fresh start.

No, Givens contract doesn't qualify. It's not a simple losses minus gains formula. There's a "secret" minimum contract amount that determines if a player qualifies to be considered as counting towards the pick formula (I believe that $1 million is the secret minimum). Trawick's contract details are not available as of now, but I seriously doubt he signed for enough to qualify.

I've got to say that I don't like how I have to essentially log in three times to actually see the reply, quote, and thumbs up and down options. Looks like they tried too hard to get this to look like Twitter and work on tablets and phones, but it looks like a hot mess on my PC.

I hear you.

Losing Osemele was a big blow to our O-line that is already looking suspect on the left side thanks to the health questions surrounding Monroe. The Ravens haven't been linked to anyone on the market other than Vlad Ducasse (guard) coming in for a visit. Either they must know Monroe is relatively healthy and they are alright with the depth we have a guard, or they are planning some draft moves that might see them moving around to get Tunsil who is the consensus can't miss franchise LT. We also need to hope Wagner returns more to his 2014 form than his 2015 form.

My concern about the linebackers is the age. We're old at OLB and the depth just hasn't shown much so far. ILB looked decent while Mosley and Orr were out there, Ravens will be snooping the FA market for a bargain+upside guy I am sure. Smith may be back on a cheaper deal for another year. We have to remember Mosley was coming off of a hand injury. Though he won't make excuses for himself, I have to imagine it is hard to tackle with one hand.

Im pretty sure LB or OL will be addressed with the first and possibly 2nd pick of the draft

Agree as well. I hope that the Ravens site can add some of the old features back to the main page again such as the up/down arrows. I hope there is some leeway to take the best features from the old site and improve on this new version. I think it would encourage more comments and interaction.

There is a learning curve to the site guys.... Hang in there. Lots of changes. The addition of new players like Weddle and Wallace are definitely an improvement to the team as well.
