Will Hill released

432 posts in this topic

From Gordon at PFF, just FYI:

Interesting to note that though 8 weeks of 2015, Will Hill was our 4th highest graded safety. Weeks 9-17 he was 70th

They were serious about Webb being the safety I guess. They want two guys who can cover back there. Webb/Weddle fit that bill and will both be leaders on that defense.

I was really liking our offseason until this move, simply don't understand it. The cap savings are minimal and could be achieved by cutting a couple other players like Elam and Lewis. I trust Ozzie but move is simply demonstrably bad, unless there's a report coming later where Hill killed someone I can't get behind this move.

I think we still hope for Elam to become the player we drafted him to be. Ravens are notoriously patient with their draft picks, sometimes to a fault. It has worked in the past at times, but sometimes it has come back to bite us by not moving on early enough.

That said, I believe in Brooks to be the SS, actually. I really like him in that role. We may also want to give Elam a chance there to show what he has in his contract year, and he'd have no shot with Hill. That doesn't mean I like the rationale, only rationalizing what seems like a strange move.

Bound to have been a team would have traded a 4th or 5th for him.

Doubt theres an incoming suspension.

Otherwise it makes zero sense. He's better than elam Lewis and brooks and webb is an injury waiting to happen.

Better than all of them combined.

Still doesn't warrant an outright cut, half of one season is hardly enough to establish a trend and we only save $2M with this move - now we are without a true SS, unless Elam can step up but what indication do we have of that? I mean, at very least he could have been traded for a decent pick.

But Webb can't be trusted to stay healthy. Would've been better with Weddle at FS and Hill at SS

Hill isn't great in coverage and at times was late to his spot but...There better be more to this because Hill at SS (his true position) and Weddle at FS would have been baller. Now the FO just took a massive step back by relying on Elam (who is coming off a torn acl), Webb (two torn acls, obviously lost a step), and Lewis (who never really looked good out there). This is probably the dumbest move the FO has made in recent memory. God, I hope they prove me wrong. I'm livid right now.

Hill was rated the best coverage SS in the game, last year, by PFF. For what's that is worth. He's young and in his prime. Can't believe they kept other people who are much worse than him stay.

In other words, he was garbage for the last half of the season.

Hill was a major liability too often as he thought he could read qbs and made horrible decisions and blowing deep coverages far too often.

I thought it was due to bad cb play and bad coordinating, but if it was really his fault, then I can't say I'm that surprised. I am surprised at Webb still sitting at 8mil right now and Lewis being on the team.

Ozzie HAS to have something up his sleeve. Maybe a trade for a stud pass rusher and we needed 3mil to pick up his contract and still be comfortable?

Perhaps the truth is we wanted as many W's in the secondary:

Shareece Wright

Lardarius Webb

Eric Weddle

Tray Walker

That's my issue. If webb gets injured again we are back to Lewis/elam/brooks instead of hill

The thing that pisses me off the most about this is that Elam and Lewis are still on the team. Elam is a bust and Lewis is beyond awful with hands made of stone and neither of them are good tacklers unlike Hill. What a joke

lol....... How does a FO go from brilliant to stupid in 12 hours. Dag, think!  There has to be more to this than we know.

I said it right after the Weddle signing, I don't get how all these safeties fit on our team. Hopefully this means they have faith in Webb or Brooks, but I don't see how this makes our team better

HILL was one of the only exciting parts of the season last year........ the hits, the TD run back on the blocked fg. i'm at a loss for words.

Weddle, watson, wright, wallace, webb, an off-season of Ws means a season of Ws

I'm just as shocked as you all, think he comes back on a lesser deal or he's as good as gone? Really thought they would have cut Kendrick Lewis over Hill

Still waiting on Daryl Smith to come back on a lesser deal too, since cutting him didn't make any sense unless we draft an ILB.

Two great moves sandwiched between two that leave me scratching my head

There you go! He didn't want to change his legal name to Hill Will - must cut him.

If Elam pans out, he'll just became like Will Hill because they are the same type of safety. Why hope for Elam to become a good SS when you already have one. Also Will Hill is only 26 and Elam is 24 so is not like age is a factor. Also Elam is coming off a torn acl!!!

He was our only good safety last season, especially considering how bad our pass rush and cornerback play was.
