HILL/WEDDLE WAS going to be one of the best Safety Tandems in the game..... i'm mind blown. we can never have the best anything.....

Eh to be fair we did have the best all-time MLB/FS pairing for 10 years. Still, this cut sucks

I am 100% on board with you. I'm at a loss for words right now. The reason i was so excited for Weddle was because we already had one of the best safeties in football back there.....

I received so much flack for stating this sentiment in the Weddle thread. Weddle is coming here to be a SS. The FO seen the exact same thing I did. He is no longer a center field type safety and wasn't making the splash plays with many dropped INT's and hardly any to his name in the past two years.

You can't start two SS's on the field. They need a FS back there which they believe they have in Webb.

I don't care if Harbaugh said he got more confident or not--Lewis just sucked man. He was horrible the entire year. I don't think he ever got better. I don't care about the PFF grades at all. I don't think it makes sense to keep Lewis over Hill even if Lewis' cap savings are nominal. Lewis isn't good. That's like paying $10 for a hamburger and throwing it away because you got this McDonald's $1 menu burger on the side because they foolishly put mustard or something on the $10 burger when you told them not to do it. It's still a fine burger and yet you're going to keep the $1 menu burger around? C'mon man.

I think it's probably chemistry related with the secondary. That's the only explanation that makes sense. They must not like his attitude or something, and you're right about him looking in the backfield but he still made plays and covered well enough. Shutdown Jimmy Graham.

Yeah I don't like it at all, but that's my best attempt. To be fair, I believe Harbaugh did compliment Lewis on his work in the box and in run defense, so maybe they won't be using him deep anymore.

Regardless, I would have sooner tried to use Hill in the Deone Bucannon role than cutting him. Obviously not my choice though.

I'm not the biggest Hill fan. I stayed a few times last year that he was getting overrated here a lot, and this move is something that doesn't surprise me at all.

However, I still think this move alone affects us negatively at the moment. Do we have some big move coming? Who know, but I'm less comfortable with our DB situation than I was yesterday. Just look at how injuries there killed us two years ago when we could have been legit championship contenders. Hill was better than just depth, but I guess we aren't as uncomfortable in the FO after this move than I am.

Wow, and yet Kendrick Lewis is still around? What's the world come to around here?

Exactly... Kendrick Lewis is a waste of space. If he makes our 53 man roster I will be so pissed off!

Was it really worth 3 million? We have asked this dude to turn his life around we give him a two year extension last season, dude has been the one bonefied baller in our backfield for the past two years... And now he's cut... Yea there's some upside to the cut in terms of cap... But I mean out of all the people we could have cut we cut will? I don't get this one

To be fair, the contract extension was done to let us get out of the deal this year if we wanted. It's clear we wanted. I don't like the move, but it does make sense and there was writing on the wall due to how Hill's role lessened as the year went on. The secondary improved when he was in the game less. I don't think that's a coincidence anymore. What I don't like is cutting him since he was a lot better than Lewis. I don't see any value in Lewis at all. Unless it's a chemistry and morale issue.

Perhaps the real answer is just a simple one: Will Hill got the fewest effort stickers on the team last year.

Perhaps something off field? That hasen't came up yet?

I am thinking something along those lines. There HAS TO BE something we all are missing.

Back to square one. We could have fielded and elite secondary with GASP depth, but nope... This is a head scratcher

Maybe they want to move Weddle to SS and draft Ramsey to play FS?

Ozzie won't cut a starter a month before the draft expecting a 2nd overall talent to fall to 6 to replace him.

I wouldn't expect a trade up either.

Bound to have been a team would have traded a 4th or 5th for him.

Doubt theres an incoming suspension.

Otherwise it makes zero sense. He's better than elam Lewis and brooks and webb is an injury waiting to happen.

I'm not his biggest fan either. I'm not upset he's gone. I'm more upset Lewis is still here and we cut Hill first before Lewis. Hill has a lot more value than Lewis as far as I can see.

That's how I feel as well. He had a cheap contract and teams need safeties. I don't see how we couldn't have traded him away at the very least. Watch him go to the Steelers now or something.

Maybe he just wasn't one of "Harbaughs guys" lol

Looks like we have more scrappy ST safeties to look forward to.

Hill isn't great in coverage and at times was late to his spot but...There better be more to this because Hill at SS (his true position) and Weddle at FS would have been baller. Now the FO just took a massive step back by relying on Elam (who is coming off a torn bicep), Webb (two torn acls, obviously lost a step), and Lewis (who never really looked good out there). This is probably the dumbest move the FO has made in recent memory. God, I hope they prove me wrong. I'm livid right now.

I was really liking our offseason until this move, simply don't understand it. The cap savings are minimal and could be achieved by cutting a couple other players like Elam and Lewis. I trust Ozzie but move is simply demonstrably bad, unless there's a report coming later where Hill killed someone I can't get behind this move.

Bruh Webb is getting paid 8 mill plus to play freaking safety. Get him outta here instead.
