Extremely dissapointed and sad about this news.

Hope Terrence Brooks can become the starting SS.

You finally have hope for Brooks :) I hope he becomes our SS too. First off though, Lewis needs to goooo.

I don't like Weddle/Webb pairing, too small. We need a bigger safety who can come up in run support and deal with physical TE's which is exactly what Hill brought to the table.

The FO handled the whole thing poorly. Release him and say that he's getting suspended. Don't try to make it seem like a money move when we have far worse contracts on the books.

Everyone here is trying to justify the release when any sane individual knew it was a bad move money wise and talent wise.

I wasn't upset we released Hill and said that. I'm upset we released Hill without releasing Kendrick Lewis. Even without the suspension I could've understood the release because while I thought he was a good S, he had issues back there that seemed to go away when he had less snaps in the second part of the year. I don't know why Lewis is still here for the life of me, but I assume it's because we just released Hill and don't want to release Lewis, too, since he's cheap. I'm not sure why, honestly, since I don't think anyone on the team is worse than Lewis. I think Lewis is on Elam's level. I think Brooks may be a better option at SS, honestly.

I think Ozzie is owed an apology, I will admit I was upset at the move but now I see. I was going to rant here but I did suspect something was behind Will HIll's release and it makes sense now. Sorry Oz.

This thread is the perfect example of people getting all upset by jumping to conclusions, and jumping to criticize Ozzie and the front office when they only have half the information. Anytime the FO makes a head-scratching move like this, i find it helpful to take a breath and wait to see what else comes out. Almost always the team has info we don't.

Trust, people. And patience...

It was so hard to watch him start last year. I dreaded watching games and having to see him back there. I don't even want him as a backup honestly. I would MUCH rather have another young rookie take his spot along with Elam, Brooks, Levine as backups for now. Good mix of experience and talent.

I don't get why people feel the front office owes them a detailed explanation on everything they do.

So many people say "in Oz we trust" until the team does something they don't like

The bad press of Boyle, Suggs and Hill overshadows the good stuff we just did in Free Agency!  I really hate the negative stigma associated with this team.

Do we really think we can start two FS's? Webb should just go back to corner, he's so useless in this equation at safety now that we have Weddle because that was the spot he was slated to start at.

Webb at nickel with Weddle at FS and Brooks/Elam at SS. Obviously I would say Brooks at SS over Elam because he's bigger and fits the role very well.

I doubt we plan to start them at the same time unless we're fielding 3 safeties at times. We'll probably start Brooks or Elam

Weddle will be the starting SS.  He's a far better tackler than he is at getting INTs (1 in the last two seasons and only 1 season with more than 3 IIRC).  Besides, the Ravens don't really play a FS and SS, it's more like a safety and a deep safety

I wouldn't be entirely surprised if our system focused more on a "safety 1" and "safety 2" kinda thing than the traditional FS and SS. There are a few teams I can think of that do it, so it's not a crazy unprecedented thing.

I know most of you guys don't like my idea of starting Brooks, but he's healthy going into the off-season and I think the coaches could finally give him a fair shot at the job. I still think they'll go with Weddle and Webb just because they talk so highly about them, but I just want to see Brooks get a fair chance.

Another good question. Who is the S that guards the Eiferts, Greens and Barnidge in our division? Both Weddle and Webb are not that big. While those TE's are all pretty big and can move well.

We could be in trouble in that regard.

It's what happened when you sign troubled but talented players. Sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn't

Yeah lol. Our biggest safety is what 5'11 200 pounds (not counting Kendrick Lewbust)? I think we should draft a guy like Tyvis Powell from Ohio State who is 6'3 210 and atheltic. We could also draft Sean Davis from Maryland who is a little bit smaller, but I think he could play like a Will Hill in regards to the TE coverage.

Harbaugh even said today during Weddle's press conference that they can afford to mix it up with Webb and Weddle, not knowing who is coming downhill and who is playing deep.

Webb and Weddle have always been small players but they get the job done. Brynden Trawick was never going to shut down Eifert.

Some people on here just do not understand that there is no longer a FS or SS....it's just a Safety....period. Listen to Harbs say there no longer is that tag. Safeties should be interchangeable and that's what we are doing with Weddle & crew.

Okay I feel a whole lot better now knowing that Hill was facing a 10 game suspension! Now I would be calling for the axe had I known earlier. Okay I am curious as to when the Ravens knew? Before Weddle or after? Either way, it was the right call because he was going to be unavailable for the first 10 games anyway.

Can we just have ONE offseason where people don't get fined or in trouble? This is starting to get irritating if it isn't already. These  guys are grown men, and are getting paid big money doing something some of us could only dream of. How about they start acting like men and take advantage of their opportunities...

Umm I'm not sure where Trawick came into the discussion. I'm talking about Hill. Also, Weddle and Webb have hardly, if ever had to guard guys that are 6 inches taller than them. They are both FS's. It's usually the SS that guards TE's.

The point is he's 6'2" and couldn't cover an ant hole, sometimes size doesn't mean anything.

And most of the time, size does mean something...

Weddle and Webb our starting safety duo. Brooks and Elam their back up duo. Where does that leave Kendrick Lewis?

That should hopefully leave Kendrick Lewis sitting on his couch watching the NFL next season. No I'm just kidding, but he needs to be cut without a doubt.

Well this makes sense now. I am curious to see if we knew anything before signing Weddle.
