[News] Mike Wallace To Sign With Ravens

Nothing against Torrey Smith but Wallace is basically the same player with a higher potential and a cheaper price tag. Good signing.

This signing i like, and agree with....his speed will keep the safeties honest, and not playing down in the box all day......We now have the short, Middle, and Deep routes covered.....

Lots of keyboard GM's commenting on this article that know nothing about football. Fact is Wallace is a more complete wide receiver than Torrey Smith, and just as fast, AND cheaper. Not to mention that he indicated he WANTS to be in Baltimore. He didn't want to be in Miami or Minnesota. The fact that he wants to be here gives hope that his attitude will be better. We don't need him to come in and be the #1, we need him to be like Jacoby was, and if you all remember, the year Jacoby had his best year, we walked away with a Lombardi.

Really don't like this signing. Not because Wallace is a bad player, but because it's way too much money for him, especially for a team that constantly struggles with cap room. Mike Wallace is good, but all he does is run down-field fast... If that what the Ravens are looking for they already have a taller, faster WR in Perriman.

Agreed. Overspent on him. I'm sure there is a clause in his contract about production. Our WRs right now combined with our TEs, provided pitta comes back healthy. Going to be dangerous. Now we need to sign an OL. So we can draft either a corner or pass rusher high.

Not even close to overspending. Guy has been with trash QB's the past two years. With Flacco throwing the ball he'll be worth every penny

For those questioning Wallace's behavior, here's a couple of snippets from Vikings fans from ProFootballTalk.

1.  Locker room cancer  - He was exactly the opposite of that in MN this past year. Everyone loved him including coaches. Did everything they asked according to reports. Even on a career low for production numbers, he didn’t complain.

Coaching staff must help in these situations, who’da thunk?

2. Vikings fan here,

Ravens fans you should be happy, guy was great in the locker room last year all that cancer stuff was BS. His only problem was he didn’t fit with the offense we have. No OL meant Teddy on his back before many deep routes could develop or people all over him by the time Wallace was open.

Also Teddy isn’t the greatest deep passer in the game. If your offensive line can give Flacco a little time He and Wallace should be great together.

Best of luck to Ravens and Wallace he was a class act with the Vikes last year while enduring a frustrating situation.

I'm excited about this; but I'm a little skeptical too. I know Wallace's recent situations did not really fit his skill set. But 4 different teams at the age of 29? Character issues must be part of this as well. However, it's also exciting because now our WR group is set. SSS, Aiken, Wallace, Perriman - on paper, that's probably the best group of WRs this team has ever had at one time.

Some say he does have a little bit of an attitude, but a lot of it had to do with money. The Steelers didn't see him as a number one receiver, so they didn't want to pay him like one(similar to what happened between the Ravens and Torrey Smith). Miami paid him a lot of money($27 million in 2 years) but he never had the stats that warranted such a large contract, so they traded him to Minnesota. The Vikings were paying him near $10 million and his stats were horrible, so they released him.

at the state of the ravens harbs said he was tired with project players. players that underachieved season after season. the fo heard him loud and clear. i like the wallace signing and i hope that perriman can be productive. i also hope that they clean house by releasing campanaro, marlon and some of these other receivers that we know will never be consistent. i would like to see if chris matthews can step up and be more consistent to earn a spot. wallace, perriman, sss, aiken if they are all healthy is a strong receiving core. im sure we will draft one as well

well....If he catches more than 33 passes for 636 yards and 4 TD's we got a steal.....Seeing the 49ers scooped up Torrey for 8 mil per.....

This is the best receiving group (Te,Rb,Wr) in the Raven's history. Joe will be a Fantasy football steal!

nah.
He was too expensive for the Steelers off his rookie contract because Miami had a ridiculous amount of cap space.

But Miami has YET to figure out exactly what it is they want to do on offense, so they're a revolving door of players whether the players perform or not. They traded him to Minnesota.

The Vikings dont do anything but give the ball to Peterson (Diggs lead that corps with just north of 700 yards and 4 TDs, Wallace's 473 and 2 was the next best, and the rest are just pathetic) so there's no way they can justify paying ANY receiver $11M since they dont throw the ball anyway.

and now we're here.
Nothing wrong with his character, just bad luck.

You forgot Daniel Brown and Jeremy Butler. Both of whom could unseat the starters given a chance.

if they have to be "given" a chance, they wont be unseating anybody. Depth charts are a meritocracy, you TAKE your chance by proving you're better than the other guy.

I like this signing. so based on everyone being Healthy receivers....

SSS

Wallace

Aiken

Perriman

Butler

Givens (iffy but possible)

"draft pick" (lets hope it is Shepard)

Notice no Campanaro? because of his injury history he will be casualty as will Brown, Brown, Waller, Caelin, Worthy.....

Devil's advocate here...if you compare Flacco 2014-15 to Tannehill 2014 & Bridgewater 2015, the numbers are quite similar. In fact, if you go by Passer Rating- Tannehill was better than Joe in 2014 and Bridgewater was better than Flacco last year. Just saying. But there's little doubt that Mike Wallace is a significant improvement to the Ravens' receiving corps. I'm loving all the FA activity by the Ravens this offseason. When you go 5-11 I guess you gotta change things a bit from what you normally do. The Ravens haven't exactly struck gold with their comp picks the last 5 years anyhow, so why not sign some Free Agents?

Now if Wallace could get excited to prove himself, he would make a very formidable receiving option for the Ravens! If Perriman could somehow get on to the field this year, the two will open up the middle of the field for SSR and the TEs. It will really help Joe Flacco because the defenses won't stack the box so much and it will surely help the run game!

Just curious...are your stats based on completed passes over 20yd? That is what matters to me when discussing Wallace. QBR doesnt matter to me as our team was in shambles last year.

His presence on the field will soften up the box, and will also help the running game.....If teams want to dare us and play 8 in the box, there is no reason why Flacco's arm, and Wallace's speed won't make them pay.....Speed does mean something, think about the teams we played with speedy WR's, and the cushions our db's gave them, along with the safeties cheating over for help, only to get burned by the other receivers....

Too bad Wallace can't play left guard, inside linebacker or rush defensive end. I'm not crazy about this signing, I think that there are more pressing needs and better uses for that money. Flacco is not going to be able to throw to anybody if he's laying on his back.
