[News] Pro Bowl Safety Eric Weddle To Join Ravens

135 posts in this topic

did someone really just refer to the Ravens safety situation as a "log jam?"

As bad as they played last year, I'm thinking it's more of a cluster-something.

Weddle and Webb are the obvious starters. But corner situation also looking quite dismal.

nobody cares about compensatory picks.
Selections in the backend of every round havent gotten us very far in recent years.

No log jam at safety either.

Weddle and Hill start.
Lewis (if he stays) is Hill's backup, Elam behind him.
Webb keeps playing the slot and part time safety as Weddle's backup, Brooks rotates in sub packages wherever Weddle/Webb arent.

That's pretty much how I see it. Except we might trade Elam, Lewis or Brooks.

So no comp picks, next year. Sign Wallace now. I dont understand Weddle hes good and all but we have like 10 safeties. Now where does this put us on Ramsey? I thought he was important. I guess Ozzie fears he aint sliding to 6

Ramsey may be the #1 pick of the draft. No way he makes it to #6. Good move by the FO.
If this guy has half the character and passion that SSS has shown he will be a huge addition to our team

You can thank that Pitts win for losing Bosa or Ramsey.

Welcome to B'More Mr. E Dub... wonder who moves on at this point? I really like Brooks speed and versatility.. his ability to cover the nickle... but hey... that's not my problem... just know the Defense got that much better...

makes me wonder too. I think Kendrick Lewis is as good as gone. From there i think it comes down to Brooks and Elam. I'm like you, I love what I've seen from Terrence Brooks when he's been healthy enough to see the field. Webb could end up as depth at corner.

Bosa could slide if Dallas decides to sign Chris Long and the Jags feel stronger about Myles Jack. Fingers crossed.

I admit i am being a negative Nancy here, but i just think the amount of money sent could have been used to cover more of our needs.....I know people remember the first half of the season, but believe it or not, our secondary was ranked pretty high over the last 8 games, i felt we needed to tweak it with subtle moves, but this takes up a lot of our money...Also i admit not a huge Weddle fan, as we have played them a lot over the last few years, and he really hasn't done anything to wow me into thinking he is worth this type of contract...JMO....

Do you mind that I blame it on our loss or nonloss to Jax.

He's the leader our secondary has needed since Ed left. He can be the QB of the back end and also add a motivating voice like Ed did. With him and Suggs leading the defense we finally have a unified group again.

The Ravens don't appoint leaders, they have to earn that, by their play......Ed earned his leadership by being a play maker his entire career, and he is going to be in the HOF....Weddle not so much....

My guess is that Wallace is not going to sign with the Ravens. Based on how the Ravens have operated in the past, they typically don't let someone out of the castle that they want and with no word coming so far chances are he has come and gone. I am sure they made a low ball offer but Wallace is certainly going to test the waters before accepting slightly above a veteran minimum. Maybe he will come back and sign when he sees what the Ravens put together but I don't see him signing with the Ravens in the near future.

Reading that Wallace isn't even supposed to arrive until this evening,

Finally they go a Safety that played in the AFC. The knowledge in just his pinky will go a long way to help this secondary.........if they can just listen. Now Ravens need a linebacker core, left & right tackle and Bradshaw to make it past training camp.

This is encouraging, pairing eric weddle with will hill makes for a dangerous safty tandom. Webby would never had made it at safety hes to small and not that good of a tackler. We should cut kendrick lewis, webby and elem. We still need corners and a WR to

I have a feeling Elam is going to be selling sneakers...

Id say his 3 pro bowls and 94 tackle yearly average for his career speak for his play. People in this league respect him as a person and he will quickly gain the respect of his teammates. Its a great signing in every way.

So now where do Webb, Elam, and Brooks fit in? I don't get it

Easy.......they dont, cut webby maybe keep elam and brooks if they can fill in at corner depth

Cannot believe there's doubt on this signing. Safety play has been the major issue with our defense for 4 years now. Yes, our cb situation has been ugly but not having good safety play has magnified that greater.

I think Webb's versatility and loyalty is worth keeping around to play the number 2 FS, nickel, and corner when needed. Whereas, Elam has proven absolutely nothing. Brooks has potential if he can stay healthy so id love another year to see him work.

Don't be ridiculous. Webb isn't going anywhere, we don't save anywhere near enough to make cutting him worth while. Not to mention he still is one of, if not the, best slot CB we have. We'll run 3 safety sets with him, Weddle, and Hill. Those three rangy safeties on the field at once is a nightmare for a division that has AJ Green, Brown, and Gordon. Brooks is a developmental piece so he's not going anywhere. Elam will battle it out in training camp for the final 5th safety spot and he needs to prove his worth on ST to make it.

Because of injuries last season everyone got a chance to see the field. All of these young guys weve been holding out hope for finally got their chance in the sun and they didnt shine. If your injury prone than thats just what you are, it wouldnt be wise for us to keep counting on the same guys season after season when they cant stay on the field. Cut them and bring in new players.

I' would say their horrid run defense has a lot to do with so many tackles from the backend....Ed made a ton of INT's, which we have lacked, and that what has been missing.....His leadership sure hasn't produced a ton of wins in SD, we have one losing season in the past 8 and all of a sudden our secondary has stunk for years??? granted the secondary was weak, but so was our pass rush, which go hand in hand....

Lewis goes. Webby will be nickel corner,( really a starter in todays NFL), he plays the middle well. Brooks has the speed we need as well. I would not mind Elam putting on a few and being a third down LB. Many safeties have done that with success and he can carry muscle on his frame.

Webb provides good depth at CB, we don't save enough to make cutting him worth it. Having Webb up high with Weddle and Hill also out there would be a nightmare for any team that wants to pass the ball.

Webb is slow and washed up if we miss out on ramsey in the first round (Which we most likely will because of the steelers game we just had to win) I see us drafting a corner in the 2nd round of the draft
