[News] Ravens Awarded Three Compensatory Picks

35 posts in this topic

"To determine "better" free agents, the council looks at average salaries, playing time and postseason awards. Salaries make up the biggest portion of that equation. "

Hopefully that means we'll get a third rounder next year since Osemele is now the highest paid guard in the league and will more than likely play just about ever snap barring injury. With the roster Oakland has and the fact that Denver shouldn't be the 800 hundred pound gorilla that they've been in the west since they got Manning,it wouldn't surprise me if Oakland takes that division and gets him some post season time too.

I love that we can't trade the picks. Nothing worse than waiting for us to pick and then we trade down 15 positions or to another round. Although trading picks could allow us to move up in a round, that seldom happens with the Wizard!

By my research with the picks we have traded away or swapped by my estimate we have a 1, 2, 3, 4, 4, 4, 4, 6, 6. A 1, a 2, a 3, four 4's and two 6's. Those are some pretty good picks but based on the scale for trading up, just to get from 6 to 3 will cost our 36th pick, our 126th pick and our 163 pick. That leaves just a third and fourth from this draft excluding the comp picks. That's a lot to lose to move up and get Ramsey or Bosa if they are even there at 3 and San Diego is willing to trade with Baltimore (though they have expressed interest in trading out). I am sure if Ramsey or Bosa are there at 6 we will run to turn in the pick.

7 picks prior to the 5th round is great nourishment to the Ravens brain trust! I think they'll excel in this draft for 2 reasons. One, they are the Ravens and two, this draft may offer the best mid round prospects of many drafts in the past.
I expect the Ravens to come away with at least 5-6 starters and a couple of pro-bowl caliber players from this draft.

Could've done some real damage if this was the year comp picks could've been traded.

The comp picks can't be traded, but can't trade other picks in and around the same rounds the comp picks are, essentially making it the same as trading our comps ?

Will next years comp pick for osemele be negated?? Because we signed Watson whom is UFA?

If upshaws signs somewhere, it would negate the Watson signing

So a moronic team that overpays benefits where a smart team that signs a FA as a average/worth contract is penalized. OK sure......

My dream draft would be:-

1- stay put at 6 and take the best player avaliable! Hopefully Ramsey or bosa are there
2- package a 4th with our second (36) and move back into the first(26-30) maybe MLB. There are 4 or 5 really talented I'd be happy with
3- package our 3rd and a 4th and move back into mid second. Best lineman avaliable and move him and to Guard till monroe goes down

going to take more than a 2nd&4th to get back into the 1st rd.

Doesn't look like the ravens want to sign upshaw. And to be honest cant blame them. Love the guy, but meritocracy has become a theme lately.

In fact tell me one play maker on the ravens that isn't coming off a severe injury. Can't name one. And the coaches that have left haha. Of course Pagano, Rex Ryan , and Mrvin Lewis. But its not them. When you have Reed, Ray Lewis, Nagta, and Suggs it will make any coach look good. Havent seen too many coaches signed since than. And Bernard Pallard, what a play maker, unlike Hill, but of course Harbough did away with that, he wanted a coach able team. Well now u have it, and without your iconic payers, see how you do now. The Ravens are soft. Hope it changes.

@hardfordravenfan l hope not the only reason Ozzie won't want to sign Upshaw because he want to negate the Watson signing for a draft pick in next year draft or Ozzie making a bad decision here. He only going to get at best a 3rd round pick in next year draft anyway so why not sign Upshaw he good against the run. I hope Ozzie isn't greedy for picks.

the 6th rd picks are useless. they never pan out for us. hope we can pkg our non 6th rd comp pk with a non comp 4th rd pk and move up. we all know that these 9 draft pks will not make the team so trading some to move up makes sense. this team needs game changers and attitude

I've always appreciated what upshaws has done against the run and keeping doom fresh (under-rated but important). But without any talks (seems like), tells me oz believe z Smith can fill the role or other plans are planned

Not this year because we have the 36th pick. Moving to 29 or 28 would cost us our 4th and if we add our sixth we could move to we can move to 27 or in a good scenario 26 ;)

I for one would love to move back into the first even if it's only a few picks ahead because all first rounders have a team option year 5 and that could be priceless when the time comes

Bernard Pollard was a huge liability in coverage.

sounds like the browns want kaepernick. if it happens than take another def. player off the boards before we pick but it makes our pick more desirable for teams looking to move up to draft a qb.

@hardfordravenfan l hope your right. :-) I always thought Ozzie wanted Za'Darius more of a McPhee role but he could try to be a good run stopper as well. I actually saw Upshaw in person at Towson Mall. I didn't speak to him l could have l was scared LOL and it looks like nobody recognize him probably because he not a starter for the Ravens. Wish Upshaw the best.

upshaw had his chance to show he was more than a one dimensional player but his pass rushing skills were lacking. i would like to see us keep him for his run stuffing but at what cost is the ? do not want to overpay for him
