This is getting crazy. Crockett, Maxx, Watson, Waller, Boyle (when back from susp.). And they tendered Chase Ford and have yet to cut Pitta. I look forward to running some 7-TE sets.

And we also have Reuland and Spears.

creating a competitive atmosphere for a few roster spots at tight end is the smart thing to do. look forward to watching it play out. would not surprise me if they came up with a season ending injury for waller in training camp to allow him an off season to bulk up, improve blocking techniques and the mental part of it

he doesn't need to bulk up, I am not sure why people are saying that. He is 6'6 245-50 which is the perfect size for a Joker TE.

if they have him on the line at times he will need to fight off blocks and do some blocking. i know he has a muscular build but he seems lean up top and it wouldnt hurt to strengthen his upper body.

OK people look at the build. Looks rather lean to me. He has the frame now he will add the weight and still stay fast enough too play good TE!

So we've got Crockett and Maxx, and within the span of a week we signed another TE, and have decided to convert a WR to TE. Four TEs. Outlook not looking so great for Boyle. I guess when you make the same mistake twice within three months and rack up 14 total games of suspensions that's really no surprise. I kinda feel bad for the guy, but at the same time it wasn't too bright to put himself before the team.

With his speed and size teams will go crazy trying to cover this guy with a LB. It will only take a couple of steps to get separation over the middle and then he's gone. It'll take help from a safety to contain him.

All of a sudden we are deep at TE again.... 1. Waller 2. Gilmore 3. Watson 4. Maxx and 5. Boyle (if he can get his act together) WOW.... wonder what position Ozzie played LOL

I wonder if this means Gilmore is more hurt than they are letting on and maybe PUP to start the season. I like the Waller to TE move but he is not thickly built to be a blocker and still raw in his route running. His upside could be huge if he can catch the ball in traffic and hold onto the ball after contact. TEs are constantly being beat up by LBs and safeties not smaller CBs. No doubt he will be a tough cover for LBs so its worth a try.

@billiejean maybe it's just seem like his legs is too skinny for a TE his legs made more of a reciever to me just my opinion. :-)

This is a very intelligent move. I use to do the exact same thing in Madden 11, I'd draft a huge WR, then convert him to TE. I'd make sure the player wasn't in on running formations though.

Just means that our WR depth chart is/will be full leaving Waller on the back burner. This is a way to keep him on the team, and keep him in the mix. You never know, maybe TE is his calling.

I like the move. It's insurance... Pitta needs to preserve his body and retire. Boyle is ghost. Gilmore is currently fragile. It's a good move. He's got to work on blocking, but with that speed and receiver hands, he could be trouble for defenders.

With his speed at that size, good luck to any LB trying to cover him. And that means you will have two solid run block TEs and Williams that can play slot and outside in the red zone. Pitta I think is done and Boyle may have already worn out his welcome. TBH, if it works with the Waller at TE situation, I wouldnt mind keeping Waller, Gilmore, Maxx, and Boyle and do a lot more two and three TE sets.

And Watson?

Strange, I had the feeling that we have a WR who could make a good TE and would have a better chance there - but it wasn't Waller - it was Dan Brown.
But Waller seems to phisically have what it takes, too. Interesting experiment, we'll see.

Here's hoping they both make the field.

He blocked primarily in college. He's gonna be fine.

I hope it's something they will switch him back and forth with. I'm pretty sure an over sized wide receiver could be more valuable than a small tight end. (Forgotten Calvin Johnson already?) Versatile players are always useful, but a large quality wide out for Flacco would be nice.

Yeah im Pretty sure it wont Be a permanent switch- unless he Does really well Ofcourse. I think they will use him as sort of a hybrid wr/TE only in certain situations And redzone Packages. I like this move- i Remember it being brought up when we first drafted him..and harbs did say recently they were looking to add a big bodied Who  could slide over to tight end. Although this does have sonething to Do with boyles suspension- i Think it Has more to do with trest looking to implement more double and triple tight end sets..i Think we were planning to do this Last year and maybe catch some teams offguard in the postseason- but ofcourse our Season Quickly went to hell and injuries caused us to stray away from it so they kept it under their hat. Just a thought.

6'6" and runs a 4.46 40. That's a nightmare match up for any defense. There isn't a LB in the league that could cover him without help.

Agreed, especially seeing that Watson and Max are more receiving te's already... Was hoping he'd develop into an outside threat to go along with a potentially very good TE group... Eventually
