What do you folks think about our WR depth chart for 2016? Will we draft a WR?

Yup, and we still have the draft. Very exciting.

For 2016, our WR corps seems good. I hope Perriman emerges as a #1, SS89 stays healthy, Wallace plays motivated, and Aiken has a career year right before becoming a FA.

Thinking of the future, I still would like a WR on day 2 of the draft if the value is good. The only sure thing going into 2017 is Perriman being on the roster. Until we know the details of Wallace's contract, we cannot assume he will not be cap casualty in 2017 due to back-ended base salary not meeting performance. Aiken will be a UFA. SS89 will be retired. A lot of uncertainty after 2016.

I think our WRs are set for the year although we will probably add a WR in draft like we do every year (later rounds, but never pans out). Our top 4 guys should be solid.

I pray Perriman is fully healthy by training camp or preseason at worse.  Seeing him and Wallace lined up on the outside with SSS and TEs/Aiken in the slot would be ridiculous.  Especially since Perriman can actually run all the routes in addition to using that 4.2-4.3 speed down the field.  Of course I'm going by his college tape lol

Remember when we had Jacoby Jones and Torrey Smith catching deep balls every game? That helped open up our offense. Guys like Pitta and Boldin would rake in first downs all day as a result. I see the same with Perriman and Mike Williams...but potentially better. Add a solid running game with Buck, Forsett, and Taliafero and I'm liking it.

It took me a few double takes to figure out he meant Maxx as well, lol.

That makes sense, too.  I just figured he meant Maxx because of the Williams and Perriman was on there, but it could easily be that as well. Maybe Mike Williams is the combination of Mike Wallace and Maxx Williams into a super-football player? Kind of a fusion? That's what I'm talking about!

Perriman and wallace on the outside, SSS in the slot on a snap count with our 22 set being the base formation, if SSS can recover he should stay productive all year because one could assume he gets favorable matchup in limited opportunities. Williams and Watson with 1rb and Perriman and wallace outside sounds like the base formation, it's single coverage all day and we will have a mismatch somewhere on every snap, when we want more speed on the field we opt for SSS over a TE, and when we want a possession guy we can replace a TE with SSS and aiken for wallace. Our spread formation would look filthy with one TE lined up off line in lieu of a 5th wr,  both Watson and Williams fit the bill for that role. It sounds like harbs and Ozzie really wanted to work with trestman because this feels like a true trestman offense, I bet He is so excited to be in his 2nd season here and already have so much support from the FO to run his offense the way he sees fit. He may even have a better group than he had in Chicago.

I'm just thrilled that the front office is dedicating this many resources to Joe Flacco. I'm almost certain that the front office wants to get it right after the debacle that was 2013 and they've slowly been building up until- boom, 2016 offense.

Thank you for that last line. I am stiff befuddled at the amount of people who think he's some scrub who ran fast at his pro day. He was a first round projection long before he worked out and ANYONE who watched his tape would tell you at worst he is a 2nd round talent with a floor close to torreys ceiling.

Seriously, the guy looked every bit as good, if not better than Kevin white. He reminds me of a young Andre Johnson if AJ was a step faster, minimal coaching should have this guy hitting 800 without breaking a sweat

And signing a REAL cover man for the secondary shows that they're catching up with the modern NFL. A corner in the first 2 rounds would make our defense ready to compete in this league and our offense is just a tackle short of being a top 5 unit

LWR- Periman, Smith

RWR- Wallace, Aiken

Slot- Camp

Perimman & Camp will surprise everyone and dominate!

Smith will be on a serious pitch count for the first half of the season and thats if he even is ready for the first half of the season..(double - total achilles rupture)

Wallace will fill his role and have 2 big plays every game

The 6th WR will be either Butler or a day 3 draft pick

i think wallace, perriman, smith and camp are gonna be great...i have just one observation on Joe. he has a great arm..is it only me--why does he consistently put too much air under the ball on deep passes??? he needs to throw it more on a line to take advantage of wallace's and perriman's speed.  he seems to always under throw the deep balls. he obviously has the arm to put it on a line like rodgers or ben.really needs to do better with this

It's not just you.  I've noticed Joe's very high arcs also.

My thought's so far into the offseason:

SSS

Wallace

Aiken

Perriman

Draft pick ( one of these guys: Sterling Shepard/Will Fuller/Josh Doctson/Kenny Lawler/Devon Cajuste)

Butler or another draft pick

I am done with Campanaro as a Raven he is too fragile. The Browns are just not getting it done, the rest are camp and practice squad guys.

I am still keeping hopeful Camp can make the roster with a good training camp/preseason. Maybe he can somehow stay healthy and earn a spot as a PR and depth WR... but they would probably cut him anyway.

I'm on the fence with the first statement. Well actually I'm not. Camp needs to be dealt for a draft pick lol. He hasn't shown me squat. Bust Bum notta nil nilch see yeah let the door knob hit yeah where the good lord slit yeah. Brown and he need to be jettisoned. Why waste the resources ! We won't get a draft pick but we can at least get his uniform number back @ best

With torrey he struggled to locate the ball, he would break stride to look over his shoulder. Joe underthrew him to compensate for this, he overthrew him often when he was younger and this became a thing when torrey was missing catches by a finger length and you could see him stiffen up real badly trying to locate the deep ball.

It also played a part in the heavy PI yardage torrey drew.

As for putting air under the ball for others, it assures that the ball is going over the top, would hate to see a pass like that get swatted by a safety in deep coverage because there was no air under it. It also allows time for the receiver to adjust, guys like kaepernick put deep balls on a rope, the better qbs arc the deep ball, Joe just needs to really pinpoint his a little more consistently.

Wow.  I never put two and two together for some reason.  I remember, on another forum, always pointing out how Torrey would slow down in his routes to find them ball then try and turn the jets on last minute (and you could notice the difference) only to end up just missing the ball whereas he'd have had it in stride if he never slowed down.

I didn't even consider that Joe's underthrows after the first few years were likely to compensate.  It makes sense as I rarely remember Jacoby having to slow down unless Joe threw on the run (Broncos and 49ers games in the playoffs) but those still went 50 yards in the air

Jacoby was often catching balls in full stride with stretched out hands lol... Or dropping them ?

But yea torrey really got too much credit, and it makes sense because he was such a likeable guy but joe made him, he had a lot of flaws that chemistry seemed to cover up when he was here. I said when he went to SF that kaepernick is the wrong qb because you need a versatile arm and a strong touch pass to work with torrey and we saw how much of a disaster it was there

With SSS, Aiken, Perriman and Wallace, we have already 4 guys locked for the season.

But how many guys are we really going to keep? 6? 7?
Between Campanaro, Butler, D.Brown, Matthews (let's be serious, we don't count Marlon).

Which brings us to my next question: what to do with Kaelin Clay? He's still in the team, right? And he was really interesting as a PR (maybe he could be the KR too). But can we keep him extra just for this if he can't play WR yet?

I think we'll go with 7 guys.

Our offense will be nasty good. Keeping the defense off the field. This team can be really good.  If a player is on the board that dropped big Ozzie will take the player. Ozzie goes by his board. He won't reach. If a player is on top of the board and he's there he will take depth over need.

In the draft unless there is an unexpected freefall we will probably pick up a receiver in the mid-rounds. We have 8 TEs on the roster so I don't see us going after one, its going to be a very defense-heavy draft other than OL but thats what we need this year. 2/3 of our draft should be DBs and pass rushers.
