Consensus Mock - Post Combine

60 posts in this topic

After reading this on Walter Football I am now convinced that Ronnie Stanley if available will be our first pick. The Ravens evidently have no interest in signing K.O. Probably the rumors of making an aggressive offer to him were to help increase K.O's value in the free agency market.

The Ravens don't have much interest in re-signing Kelechi Osemele. - Jason Cole, Yahoo!

Tunsil had nothing to prove though. He is considered the best LT and for many the best player in the draft that is the difference. But you can believe whatever you want to because nothing I say will convince you nothing you say will convince me.

Bosa, Ramsey, and others considered at the top of their position groups "had nothing to prove" but participated anyway. I normally have a problem with guys skipping the Combine entirely, a la Treadwell. I'm also not very concerned about Tunsil, but let's not pretend like he doesn't have his warts. There's that comment by Nkemdiche that supposedly indicated he was in the same hotel room. That's a cause for concern. I find it minor personally, but still.

And no, I can and will change my mind with evidence. You just haven't supplied me anything tangible to make me change my mind. My point is we don't know if Stanley loves football or not. I've heard those rumors, but he participated at the Combine. As I said to JoeyFlex5, I don't want a guy who doesn't love football so if he doesn't and we deem that in interviews then I hope we don't draft him. I could care less if we take Stanley or not. I think that's my issue with your statements because you seem to be overly down on him and seem to be seeking reasons to vindicate your belief but you won't get such a conviction from me unless you provide me with evidence supporting it.

Just want to point out the irony of saying that because Nkemdiche said Tunsil was there doesn't mean it's true either, not the best source(before you say why would he say that, I think that guy would say anything to save himself,) and if he was there there is no prove he did anything, but hang out. Having said that I am probably attaching more to this because I would rather take a defensive playmaker than the less sexy LT even though it is important, but I also believe this is a crossroads of this franchise, one way we can end up fighting for the AFC North title and at least getting one of the wild cards which is where we love to be because our team unlike others travels well. The other way we could go is a team that is going to be picking in the top 15 at best. Our team is not getting any younger or less injured the core of our team is the wrong side of 30 and we need to have a great draft in order to just compete in our division because I don't know if we can beat the Steelers or the Bengals if we only have an OK draft and God help us if the Browns actually hit on a QB(as unlikely as that is, feel a little bad for Wentz or Goff.)

I said that I find Nkemdiche's comment pretty minor, so I obviously agree that it's pretty minor in comparison. I don't place much stock in that, but if you put stock in rumors about Stanley's love of football I don't see how you can't put stock in that. I personally don't care about that, honestly. I'm glad you said the truth about preferring a defensive player over Stanley. I have no problem at all with that comment because I feel that's the true opinion you have and that you were minimizing Stanley as a way to justify taking a defensive player. You need not do that here because I would love to have Bosa, Ramsey, or even Jack and have them higher than Stanley. I'm just against the idea of throwing mud at one guy to justify another.

One argument for Stanley is that we just invested into Joe and we may not want to risk that financial investment with the oft-hurt Monroe. I'd love to come out of this draft with someone like Spriggs, though. The Ravens are better at this than either of us, and I trust them to get it right more than we will. I'm personally hoping for Bosa and a guy like Spriggs in the second, but that may not happen. I do like that combo better than Stanley & an OLB available in the 2nd, though.

What about Stanley's run blocking, that OK to question, haven't really looked, but I know it was a concern for some analyses and if we want to run to set up the pass which is the best route to go, to take the pressure off Flacco and open up the deep shots. Will he be able to effectively in the run game?

After I heard that at least five front office personnel had him as their best player in the entire draft, I think I'd be okay with the move. If he can be the next AP type player, I'd be down. Too bad Gurley isn't in this draft...

I think grim was joking but Elliot is the real deal. I think he'll be a better all around player than gurley. He's by far the best skill player this yeArs draft. However it would be very tough to pass on the potential d talent at 6. Maybe a trade back or trade up.

Stanley isn't as nasty as Tunsil. I love how Tunsil plays football. He's nasty and mean as a LT. He'll eat your sandwich, vomit it up, then make you eat his vomit. Okay, perhaps that's an exaggeration lol but he's mean and that's the point. So no he's certainly not as good in the run game as KO or Tunsil. He's a better run blocker than Monroe, though, and I dare say a better pass protector by far. He reminds me of Cordy Glenn but better in the run game.

I can honestly say i'd rather pick Elliot over Stanley. Myles Jack needs to be the pick.

I think Elliott is in conversation for Dallas' pick and it wouldn't surprise me if they took him. He's an ideal RB for what they want and their identity. He'll instantly take pressure off Romo, making teams stack the box and he'll be running behind that stout Dallas OL. Elliott can both pass protect and receive as well. He's the complete package. Dallas could then take a QB with their second or third round pick to groom behind Romo.

Chad Reuter just came out with his latest mock and has the Ravens going with:

1st:  Buckner (Tunsil, Wentz, Ramsey, Bosa and Jack were the 1st five)

2nd: Jaylon Smith (this pick had the Ravens passing both Spence and WJ3)

3rd: Jalen Mills

4th: Rashard Hollywood Higgins

I'd love it would've gone Buckner, WJ3, Jaylon in the 3rd and then Higgins in the 4th

No interest, and yet they made him a big offer.

Makes sense, right? Lol. I don't get that one. That's not even a rumor, either, since Harbaugh himself said it.

That's exactly what I woukd do if I was Dallas however it's going to be hard to pass up a great defender there.

I think it is something Dallas is certainly considering. I really think they could throw people a curveball in the Draft. I've made a mock but I am waiting to see how FA pans out before I post it. I don't want to do 100 mock drafts.

I didn't include Reuter in my eval, because he hadn't done a post-combine mock until after I compiled it. I wouldn't have included him anyway, because I already have 3 others from NFL.com and these guys seem to recycle each other's mocks. Reuter's top 6 are identical to Jeremiah and his was included in this evaluation.

His mock matches consensus for the first 5 ... then comes us ... Stanley vs. remaining defenders. When the top 5 break this way, it becomes a bit of a toss-up. But again - one can say the consensus on us taking a defender over Stanley ... they just can't come to agreement on what defender that will be.

Even if this is true, I don't think the FO allows it to force our hand and take Stanley, if they don't view him as a player with the same impact as another defender that may still be available. Even if we drafted based on need, which we generally don't, there are many positions of need and many of them are on the defensive side of the ball.

But reports have it that both Tunsil and Stanley are two of the best OT prospects to have come out in years though. When you think about it how many opportunities does a team really have to take a LT prospect that is regarded very highly? Unless of course you are picking in the top 5 consistently year in and year out. We the Ravens never get such opportunities. So, logic tells me that is the way the front office is going to approach this draft as well.

Indeed ... if the FO agrees with the reports you are referring to, then Stanley will be a Raven. All I'm saying is, if we lose out on KO, that isn't going to force us to pick him if we feel one of these other options at defense is the best player available.

Everything we discuss on this forum or anywhere else for that matter is purely speculative. So, who really knows what the front office is thinking? We all wish we knew, but then where is the fun in that?

Maybe but he's a better fit in a power scheme. I think he'd struggle moving in a zone scheme like ours. Just not very athletic

How is drafting Stanley going to help us? Is he going to play guard his rookie season? Or do we cut Monroe and draft another player to play guard? I'm not sure you'd want KO at LT he was barely average there. He's going to be overpaid at guard and he's only played 1 season healthy. I think we have better options for a guard replacement later in the draft. I think Spriggs has the ability to be a very good guard.

OK - so in the vein - I believe that there will be a defender available that will bring more to the team than Stanley. My only point from the beginning on this was that KOs decision is not going to sway their selection.

Sigh ... you latched onto the first sentence - haven't read previous posts or the most important sentence in the post you replied to. I was engaged in a discussion over whether losing KO would increase the likelihood of picking Stanley and I said it wouldn't.

I've said through out that there will be a defender that is still available that we will value above Stanley. As you said, Buckner and Jack are both serious contenders for that. If both are available, I think we take Jack. I have Tunsil, Wentz, Ramsey, Bosa and Jack going in front of us, so for me, it is going to be down to Buckner or VH3  ... I think both will be on our board ahead of Stanley. I haven't decided which yet, but if required to make the call, I think it will be Buckner.

With speculation that Cleveland wants to sign a veteran QB, this is how I see things shaking out early

Tennessee 1. Tunsil

Cleveland 2. Bosa.

San Diego 3. Ramsey

Dallas 4. Jack

Jacksonville 5. Hargreaves, I just think there secondary is much worse off.

Baltimore 6. Buckner - He is a unique prospect with an extremely high floor and ceiling. I see him having more upside than Stanley who I have ranked between no.8 and 10 on top prospects.
