Cutting the cable (or dish as it were….)

9 posts in this topic

Just curious who here has decided that cable/sat prices are just a joke and have decided to go 100% streaming with a Roku or similar device.

Im in the process of closing on my first home and Im looking to cut expenses anywhere. I currently pay $150 a month for DirectTV with HBO (more during football season…..I estimate about $2100 a year). I also subscribe to Netflix ($8/ month) and have had Amazon Prime ($8.25 / month) for years. I was considering dumping DirectTV and adding Hulu Plus ($12 / month ad free) and possibly Sling TV ($20 / month). Thats a grand total of $579 a year for all streaming services combined. I would consider adding HBO as well for $15/month….that would top out at $759 per year, a substantial savings.

Any thoughts? Experiences?

Thanks!

I have Xfinity now, but I'm always open to better offers. Roku and company don't work for me because I really want sports channels. If I can't have that, then I'm not interested. It's really all or nothing for me. I can't really speak towards most of those other services because Netflix, Hulu, etc have never really tempted me. I'm already paying for cable so I can't stomach the though of paying more just for more movies and tv shows.

Yeah. The thought of losing Sunday ticket and NFLN pains me.

Other than football, I'm really not passionate about sports so sports programming isn't that big a deal.

People at my work have been talking about their streaming box they have purchased,  I think it's called stream smart.  You can get all pay per views for free,  movies that are pretty new,  all sports game. It's a one time purchase of I think 250.  I've been thinking about making the jump to it instead of my online streaming.

I've been using Netflix and Internet streaming for years

I've seen these. You can also do it with jail broken Amazon Fire tv boxes. You're at the mercy of overseas servers and such, but yes. All movies, sports, etc. it's tempting but as I've read, spotty and sometimes annoying.

Whoopsie daisy. Just delete those two posts then if you'd like. My bad.

Just don't start discussing specific sites or posting links and all is well.
