Lost's Post Combine/Birthday Mock Draft

17 posts in this topic

Let's get it started. Today is my bday. As a gift to all of you I present a poor post combine mock draft. It looks just like the others and possibly gives away my strategy(or possibly not). Enjoy

Round One: Myles Jack MLB

People told me I have Perriman and UCF bias. No. I'm a UCLA Bruin. I've seen tons of Jack and have been crossing my fingers for him for awhile. What's to say that hasn't been said. "Jack is the best MLB since Luke". "Jack has elite talent". In my eyes, there are three elite players in this draft.

1. Tunsil

2. Bosa

3. Jack

"But Lost. He's a MLB. They're a dying breed and we already picked CJ years ago".......

If you have the opportunity to take a potential all pro, who's a pretty safe pick anyway(if he stays healthy), who's actually a good football player and not just an athlete. You take him. It's a no brainer. Jack would do so much for the defense. Provides run defense, can diagnose and blow up screens, can cover the TEs, and can cover the slot. If Jack reaches his ceiling, he wouldn't shut down a Gronkowski, but he'd give him fits.

Round Two: Tyler Boyd WR

I'm gonna let you in on a little secret. I simply do not care that he did not do well in the combine. I think he's got the best hands in the draft, he's physical, great route runner, and is fast enough. People are like, "we need speed". True. But we need reliability more. Boyd is pretty much that on the field. I will ship him all day long if I have to. Boyd may only be a possesion WR, but we need one of those. I think he has all the tools here to be a #1. Body control, hands, route running, and we have the one guy in the league who knows him the best. I think he's a lock if he's there in the second.

Round 3 Carl Nassib Pass Rusher.

Carl Nassib can do one thing really well. He can pin his ears back and get to the QB. In his sleep. He's very raw, but extremely talented and by the looks of it is a very hard worker. He's got talent in that regard. And it's not like run defense is a massive weakness or anything.

Round 4 Karl Joseph FS

I've like Joseph from the beggining. Good instincts, good hands, skill. Potential steal because of injuries. Is it bad that I don't trust Webb at FS? I think he's better suited for a slot CB position. And actually, I think if we retain Wright we're fine at corner. What we need is to solidify the middle.

Round 4 Max Turek Center

Zuttah is only an average player, and we're going to need an interior olinemen. Especially if we're going to move KO to LT full time. Meet Turek, the very intelligent center from USC. He knows Buck, and was a very good blocker, very versatile as well. He can play center, he can play either of the guard positions. He's got value. And is worth picking up.

If there were comp picks released I would have added those. But here you go.

If he's available, I think I'd rather take Evan Boehm over Max Turek. But this is a pretty good draft. I'd be pretty happy with this.

Tuerk, to me, is the best pass blocker and most natural fit for the ZBS, if his medical check out

But Trestman seems to prefer running up the middle rather than the type of ZBS that Kubiak used. Boehm.is the guy that'll really open up the middle running lanes, especially when combined with Yanda and KO (if we can keep him). Plus, the Ravens seem to struggle on short yardage situations, which Boehm will fix.

I honestly despise nassib as a 34OLB and wonder if he has enough man in his body to hold up as an end.. But in the 3rd it's worth it, especially drafting Jack and having guys like jernigan, zds, and Carl davis, With all those guys we have a legit 34 43 hybrid with no real base alignment and we could almost employ the nickel as our base at that point.

It would give our defense a very unique feel in the future.

My man,  keeping the jack love going.   I love the first two picks as that's the combo I prefer.   I would sign off on this easily

Nassib is still developing but faired well against B1G OL, which people often credit Bosa for doing. He led the FBS in sacks for 2015 with 15.5. He's not the best around the edge and will be limited there due to lack of athleticism in that area, but he's plenty athletic and isn't a bum in that area. I agree he'll need development and won't be much against the run early but he'll be able to rush the passer. I see him as more of a 3rd round pick if we haven't addressed it already. I still like Ngakoue but Nassib tested better athletically than Ngakoue even at his size.

My issue with nassib is that he seems to disregard his height, he doesn't do much for leverage and while he has a good motor and first step and straight line speed I think he's very far from effectively getting sacks in the NFL because he just offers nothing in terms of pass rush moves.

The potential is there though, all that length and all that burst combined is always intriguing especially for a high character kid like him, I would just prefer Charles tapper who I think is similar but a more natural fit in a 34 and probably a higher ceiling because he also is very powerful and can be had later

Haven't seen Tapper play much on the edge though, have you? If we're talking about late round project, I'll take McAllister, his athleticism and bending is a thing of beauty.

not much but i have seen it, and you can tell hes got the ability he just needs the work.

he is the first one off the snap whether hes on the edge or the interior and he always gets the upper hand from the jump, his problem is what to do afterwards, his engagement is awkward and he looks like all he ever wants to do is get up  under his mans chest pads and drive, and if he isnt getting push he just kinda stands and shuffles, but the burst and power is there and he has a frame to play the edge for us.

I love the Nassib and Joseph pick. Joseph reminds me of a poor mans Earl Thomas, and Nassib has a work ethic that rivals Watt. People tend to forget that he walked on to campus weighing 99lbs soaking wet and wanted to play football so bad that he worked his butt off to bulk up
